I was playing TRU on my PS2 today and thought that I could try and make it look a bit better in terms of graphics! these are the steps that I did, but the game will only look a little bit better than what it was before. but this stuff is probably the obvious.

Step 1. Turn on your PS2, press triangle to go to Version, once you are on the Version menu press triangle again, there should be a option to set the texture mapping, set it to smooth. (Doing this will increase the number of pixels in each texture and make the blury compressed cinematics look a heap better)

Step 2. Go to your TV options and put the color up just a little bit to your liking (makes the game look better in terms of colors)

Step 3. On your TV options there should be a option for the brightness, turn it down allot (doing this will make the game darker and more atmospheric)

Step 4. On your TV options there should be a option for the contrast, turn it up a bit to your liking (Doing this will make fire in the game glow a bit more)

Step 5. (Not all TV's have this) there should be a option for the sharpness in your TV menu, turn it up to 100% (this will make the game look more crisp in terms of graphics)

Step 6. (Not all TV's have this) in your TV options there should be a option for the color temperature, set it to 'Cool'

another way to make it look even better is to run the game on a HD monitor and connect your PS2 to it through component cables, that way you'll see the game in true HD :) just make sure that when you have put in your component cables you go into the Audio/Visual options for TRU PS2 and turn the 'Progressive Scan' mode on :)

This worked very well for me and I hope it does for all you people who can only get TRU for the PS2. anyways, have fun! :D

I got PS2 TRU to look good too with adjusting some sliders and messing with the PS2 settings, and yea, it make it looks a bit better. :)

I tried something like this with anniversary, to get it looking nice, I'll go dig up some pics.

Edit; Here they are;
Before

After

Not a massive difference, but it looks less washed out. Anniversary was already a beautiful looking game though, so I suppose the difference is greater on TRU.

I tried taking some screenshots but they didn't turn out good. Other people who have the PS2 version can you please tell me if it makes any difference to you?

That option only applies to PSOne games, it has no effect on PS2 games, the same as the Disc Speed option (which you also started a thread about in the Video-Games board).

when I use that option the Cinematics look better to me :)

^^Trust me, any improvements you think you see are purely psychological. The Smooth Texture option is for PSOne games only. If the Smooth Texture option really did effect PS2 games, why would developers make games without it in the first place?

hmm.... maybe it is because I changed the TV and the quality was a little better?

^^I can't argue with that. Adjusting options on your TV would certainly tweak the visuals a little. Also, ensuring that you use a proper SCART plug and not AV will result in an infinitely sharper image from the word go.

I can attest that the cinematics looked way better. However the environments in the game didn't have any difference. Only until I changed the color temperature, brightness and contrast. :D

So it did work for you?! :D

I wouldn't recommend putting sharpness all they way up as all it does is add artifacts and artificially highlights edges, and making the picture look unnatural. Id leave it at no more than 25%. Color temp I like to have on warm or normal so whites don't have a blueish tint. I also like the way warm makes greens, reds, and yellows look more natural.

Contrast can be put where you want though too much can be bad for come types of TVs. 50-75% is generally a safe number.

I don't know if this will help but in Anniversary I put the in game brightness control on ) and set the brightness using my TV controls only. I put the in game contrast up until blooming began (most noticeable in Egypt outside). This made the game much more colorful and less washed out looking without needing to adjust the color setting on my TV.

Same concept tbh.
Plus without any pics at all, the thread's a bit pointless.

sorry for DP.

does anyone see the difference in the Screenshot I posed, besides me? :o

You'll have to post a comparison, otherwise it's impossible to tell; colours are bound to look different on monitors, and most people can only see differences in colour when they compare shots.

hmmm, I can't really post a comparison screen because I can't change everything to how it was before. maybe you could compare it with this vid?

Sorry for Dp but I wanted to tell you something. My Copy of TRU PS2 is showing on a HD monitor, but I have now got some Component cables, with the progressive scan mode on it makes the game look allot better than it was before :)
