Hey All

Ive just recently installed TR's 2-9 back on my new PC. Ive been a fan since the beginning, and although ive got all the games, only those have worked on XP. Sadly my dad passed away nearly two weeks ago. And as I have fond memories of him and i playing TR1 on the PS, i wanted to play it on the PC.

I would play and he would help me out with the puzzles when i got stuck. I have tried in vein for ages to get TR1 to work on my PC, but it just never ran. OK it did run, but there was no music and no atmosphere, which is a big part of why i love the TR games.

Up until now i had given up hope of playing it again. That is until yesterday. I finally decided to try using Glidos to see if it would work, and it did. Even the music and atmosphere work fine now, thanks to the person who went to the trouble of putting the audio tracks for download in mp3 format.

I even downloaded some extra textures (JC ones i think they are called), and the game runs and looks great now. I dont know who did that with the music, but even the trigger points work on the PC now. :D I had given up hope in playing TR1 on the PC, but i just had to try it one more time for my dad.

TR1 is, and always will be my fav game, with TR2 and 3 close behind. Then i like the Last Revelation, Chronicles and AOD. The others afterwards are OK, but not a patch on the earlier ones i enjoy more. Yes Anniversary did an OK job, but it just didnt have that something special that TR1 had you know?.

Im just happy to be able to play the game that i have such fond memories of me and my dad playing. He loved playing TR as well, and i know he played them all up until Underworld. His hands got so bad with Arthritis that he couldnt use the keyboard/controller no more.

I just want to say a big Thank You to the ones who make all of this possible. The makers of Glidos and the other stuff i had to download to make it work. I even went and paid for Glidos i was so grateful for it.

I hope you guys didnt mind me posting all of this. Im off now to raid some tombs with my memories of my father close by.

This post has really touched my heart, because my father used to play Tomb Raider with me as well... He got us TR1, TR2, TR3, TR4 and TR5 for the PC... We were both addicted. I have fond memories of playing TR with him as well, especially TR2. It was the first one we got and it's still my favourite game.

Happy to know you're enjoying Tomb Raider 1 all over again. Enjoy.

I'm so sorry to hear about you father. Your post was one of the best I've seen about one's passion for Tomb Raider ever since I've come to this forums. I hope you enjoy playing the games again ;)

My dad used to play the early games with me too. He was always quite amused at how terrified I was of the Atlanteans :(

very touching I remember when I was little my Dad had the first three tomb raiders and he's play them and I'd watch but he wasn't really a good person. I didn't know much about that then but I'm happy your happy, incase your wondering about the music I heard that the ps1 had the music and PC had ambient noises.

It's strange how memories and nostalgia make a bond with the happy incidents of our past life and also with the people that were close to us at that time.
I'm really glad you are enjoying TR again and that it brings you back good memories of your father.:)

Thanks for the nice comments. Its nice to know others understand where im coming from regards the connection.

Uzi Master, yes the ps version had all the music and the pc didnt, but now with the things i downloaded, the pc is the same as the ps version, but with better graphics :)

Its good to play it again, and its funny, but i havnt played it for years and years, yet i remember where all the pick ups are placed. Weird how that works isnt it?.

Im still taking it slowly and enjoying it immensly. I have been going back and forth between 1-2 and 3 though, so its gonna take me a little while to complete 1 i think.
