Hi all,

Ive solved my problem.

Basically my Tilde key (the ~ key) refused to work for anything other than tying applications. It would not work for TRLE, or Oblivion. Vital for both.

On page 9 billion and 6 of a google search :p I found an answer on a Fallout 3 forum:

Posted by: ahyumifanI found this searching over internet to find the solution for this problem. It seems most of the laptop with Windows Vista installed have same problem of unable to bring up the console command by pressing tilde(~) key because most of them comes installed with Microsoft eHome IR.

It is simple to fix actually. It's either delete this, or modify littlebit to go around this function.

Go to 'Device Mananger' -> 'Keyboard' -> 'Microsoft eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard'

Right click it, and now you can either choose to 'uninstall' to simply make the tilde key works again in fallout 3, oblivion and other games that does not let you use ~ as console. However, If you feel discomforted uninstalling the driver, then there is other solution.

Right click it and instead of clicking 'uninstall', choose 'update driver software'

when new window pops up, choose 'browse my computer for driver software'

now when new stuff comes up, choose 'let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'

several stuff comes up as a list. click on 'HID-compliant device' and click 'next' (or simply double click it)

now it is done!! try fallout 3 and see for yourself.

So thanks for that microsoft! I thought Id put my solution up, because undoubtably other people will want to use developer mode of Oblivion or other games that use Tilde - or want to texture to the LE's full potential.

:D

So I hope that helps anyone else with my same predicament and saves them a whole day of absolute fury. :jmp:

1. What keyboard are you using?
2. Do you have any KB software extensions (Multimedia keys "helpers" and so on) installed and running?

3. What's your default system language/layout?

About the games: Ensure that console usage is allowed via settings.

Okay, I found this whilst researching my problem:

"I had the same problem when I got Oblivion for my PC. The tilde key has a tendency to not work if you are using a infrared remote receiver is plugged in and are running a PC with Windows XP Media Center Edition or Windows Vista (The same problem occurs with laptops with built-in infrared sensors)." ~ Included is a way to fix it, but it would only fix it for Oblivion, not in general.

So, this laptop has a built IR reciever - and the disable feature is greyed out even with Admin rights. What the hell do I do to turn it off?

Check if there is a functional key to turn IR reciever off.
