Hey so I think there might be a problem with my PS3! Well today I was going to play some RE5 and then when I started it, there was a black screen and nothing came up. If I held the PS button, I could exit the game. I tried again, same thing. *runs around and freaks out* Then I tried again and it worked.

Then maybe 20 mins after I had quit I tried and it didn't work. So I tried again and it did. Then I tested it a few times after and it worked fine. This maybe happened to me a couple of times in the past.

I just googled my problem and maybe two or three people had the same problem. and they were told that it was a failing blue ray reader or something. But the thing was it happened to them all the time... but to me it happened just a few times. I am worried that my blue ray reader may be failing!

Does it sound like my blue ray reader is failing or do you think its a different problem?

When I play games it works fine but I am really confused so please help! :o

Use Blu-Ray Lens cleaner disc first, then we'll see if the issue is as severe as you initially thought of :)

Could just be the disc.
I remember my Oblivion GOTY disc kept crashing at the bethesda logo.
Then my ps3 automaticlly went back to the xmb menu.
Just try cleaning the disc to see if that helps. Thats what worked for me.

Well I decided to call Sony. I spoke to a lady and I told her what I was experiencing and she said it sounds like the blueray reader is failing. Then she told me to give her my details and I can send it in. But then I told her that it happened a few times last night, but it never happened again, could it still be failing? And she said probably not, it could have just overheated and acted up. Then I asked her if I should use a lens cleaner and she told me she does not recommend using it. :o

Then I asked her if this happens again, could it mean there really is a problem and she was like "PUT YOUR PLAYSTATION NEXT TO A FAN AND IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN CALL BACK OK BYE".

But I think it was nothing. The reason I thought it could be a problem is because my Playstation also blacked out a few days ago and to turn it off I had to switch it off from the back. But thanks guys! :)

Yeah, sure. She was to tell you "Go clean it not to need a "repair", we'll manage without your service payments" ;) :D

She said something like "it isn't recommended you try and clean the lens with a lens cleaner, and don't try and open it and clean it yousrself becasue that will void the warranty. Cleaning the lens wouldn't make a difference if it is failing".

^ Well, IF you still has it on warranty, then, of course, go for service (and let it be their problem ;) ). If not, then start with lens cleaning.

OK, so I took your advice and bought the Maxell Lens Cleaner. I asked the person that works at Walmart if its safe etc, they said don't worry about it it will work perfect. So I tried it and my games still work fine! Usually there was like a 20 second delay before the games started but now they start immediatley. Thanks so much! :D

Yea, they Manufacturers always tell you not to do something yourself just so you can spend money sending it in, I also hate the people that talk to you like that, you are curious and they just talk to you like your a pile of dirt on the ground.

I always consult forums in problems of electrical goods.

But I am glad you sorted the problem out.
