That's because it was simply a shell, not the actual OS.

I menitoned this in the SP2 woes thread, and posted this image:

Yes I remember it. I still have an IBM portable with a built in 7" monochrome monitor with this on it. Weighs a bloody ton! :D

I have vague recollections of it, although my first PC came with Windows 95. Before that, I used Commodore Amiga ;)

I had a copy of Windows 1.0 (it was shipped on one 3.5" floppy disk) ;)

A few screenshots of Windows 1.0:

http://www.digibarn.com/collections/software/microsoft/windows10/TN_Image79.JPG http://www.digibarn.com/collections/software/microsoft/windows10/TN_Image83.JPG

http://www.digibarn.com/collections/software/microsoft/windows10/TN_Image62.JPG http://www.digibarn.com/collections/software/microsoft/windows10/TN_Image82.JPG

Just a quick info: it was released in 1985. When I said that it was shipped on one floppy disk, I meant that the content will fit one of today's floppy disks. In 1985, it was (i think) 10 x 5.25" 172KB floppy disks.

It's shocking isn't it, to look back and see what we used to work with. But look on the bright side, imagine what our pc's will look like in another 20 years!

Gotta love that clock though! :D Oh god I just noticed the 5" floppy disks.

While GUI advancement is nice, it would be nice if you could make XP tell you what it is doing instead of guessing.

I never had a chance to see Windows 1.0 (thanks Bokkie). I skipped from DOS directly to Win 3.1. DOS... So many things you had to do manually... Floppy disks, commands, DAVE ( http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif )... I prefer my beloved XP and 3D Lara!!
