John Hughes, who captured the zeitgeist of 1980s teen life as writer-director of "The Breakfast Club" and "Sixteen Candles" and produced and scripted family hits such as "Home Alone," died Thursday of a heart attack in Manhattan while taking a walk. He was 59.

I absolutely loved his movies growing up in the 80's and he will be sorely missed here. :(

RIP Mr. Hughes and thank you for all your contributions to the film industry.

Yeah I'm not going to argue in a thread of this sort; but how the **** is he irrelevant?! The Breakfast Club has a ****ing cult follwing, Home Alone was massively popular! Hes written tons of popular films.

Just because you aren't interested doesn't mean other people aren't.

You're probably thinking of Chris Columbus, who worked with John Hughes on Home Alone and directed HP 1-2

Ah I must've got confused with the Home Alone connection. Still was a good director though. :(

Planes, Trains and Automobiles is greatly underrated. A charming movie.

He was the voice for a generation. Ferris is still great fun to watch today.

Thanks for the memories, John.
