I guess perhaps several different models were used as a reference in all the games and the two movies. Still, I'd like to get some credible information regarding the real-life weapons that served as inspiration for what we see in the games and movies.

So far, I managed to pick up these suggestions on the web:

.44 Magnum Desert Eagle - short barrel version
http://www.magnumresearch.com/Desert_Eagle.asp

H&K USP Match (discontinued in '99, almost certainly the gun used in the first movie)
http://blog.hollywood-guns.net/images/uspmatch_03.jpg
http://www.heckler-koch.de/HKWebText/detailProd/1925/135/4/21

One of the Glock models
http://www.glock.com/english/index_pistols.htm

Some comments from a guy who seems to know what he's talking about:

Suggestions?

What about the Uzis, shotgun, MP5, M16, and the grenade launcher from the classics???;):DI'm not entirely sure what the shotgun in the first two games is based on, but I know the shotgun from the third game is most probably based on the Spas 12

I'm fairly certain that the M16 is based on the M16A1 commonly seen in the Vietnam war.

I think AoD is probably the only game in the series that actually named the weapons (in the inventory) so you can see what make and model they are. I mean, it's alright saying 'shotgun' but to a connoisseur like Lara these little details matter! ;)

Anniversary Uzis, are based on the MAC-10.

in TRA, i had a pic of Lara and her pistols, and it said that they are called Tomford .357, but i dont think that thats a real gun.

but didnt they (CORE) give them their own names to the guns? i dont think that the AOD guns were named what they really are.

there was Desert Ranger, Vector R35, M-V9, Viper SMG, Dart SS, etc.

i googled the names, and it seems that they arent real names or brands of guns; and ive never heard of them.

like in RE4, they gave fake names to the weapons. except TMP, Shotgun, Mine Thrower, & Rocket Launcher; those were the type of gun.

Except that the Mac 10 is a useless version of the Uzi that tried to compensate for its lame auto firing rate with more hard hitting rounds. The MAC usually uses .45 ACPs (typical) while still can't compare the the Uzi or the Uzi variant's close combat effectiveness.

SMG PKs are much better.

And let's not forget the HK USP Match from Legend, Underworld, and both movies.

The movie guns are Heckler and Koch USP Match pistols chambered in .45 acp. The first movie used the more desirable stainless steel slide while the second movie used the carbon steel slides (changed at AJ's request -- I guess it's a woman thing). The gun is basically a standard HK USP with a slightly longer barrel and awkward weight attached to the end (not a compensator as the guy on HK94.com stated). They are no longer manufactured and have been replaced in HK's line with the USP Elite. After the TR movies were released the demand drove prices far higher than the gun is worth. Gunbroker has a couple right now with starting bids in excess of two thousand dollars and I have seen them go for as much as $3,800. For that kind of money, weight and, size one could obtain the HK Mark 23 which is a beefier meaner piece of hardware.

As far as TR UZIs go, it is like Tombofwinston and Catapharact said, they aren't UZIs. They are instead the less reputable MAC 10's. This is what an actual UZI looks like (sans the folding buttstock to comply with the local laws where I live):

To give you an Idea of the weapon's size (ignore my ugly mug):

Anyway, that's my two cents worth.

^in RE4, the fake names are:

Red9- its a Luger
Punisher
Broken Butterfly
Killer7- i think its supposed to be a Colt 1911. and they names it after the Capcom game "Killer 7"
Chicago Typewriter
Riot Gun- i think that a Riot Gun or Riot Shotgun is a gun that shoots beans bags at rioters, that the police use. This one shoots live ammunition, with is usually not a good idea, if you are trying to not kill someone.
Blacktail

etc.

Yeah but the M-16 Assault Rifle is better than the AK. Well, if they do put an AK in Tomb Raider I hope they use the not-so-common more powerful AK-74 Assualt Rifle and not the weaker, slower firing well known AK-47 Assualt Rifle.:D:D;):cln:

M-16 wasnt that great, but the M-16A4 and M4 are amazing iv heard.

AK-74's are very common actually, the majority of the former soviet union used them, most still do, theres countless stockpiled in Afghanistan from the soviet war. But the AK-47 is used by militias and insurgent groups, as its easy to use and make, so in reality there not using a weapon with the exact design of the official version.

One has the shape, the other doesnt, MAC 10 was some American made thing, UZI was Israeli, i guess like our carbines, for armored crewman and pilots to keep with them incase they need to get out of a struggle.

I remember a great story about UZI's from the old leader of the Israeli Special forces, he dressed up as a woman, with an uzi up his skirt or something, and managed to assassinate a general during the Arab-Israeli war.

Having fired AK-47 and AKM myself, I would say the AK series is no slouch. It would do in a sticky situation just fine, thank you. It's pretty low maintenance and rarely gets jammed.

But yeah, I know, there are better guns nowadays. Still, they missed the opportunity to casually drop some AKs on the ground in the Kazakhstan level. It's such an iconic weapon.

I agree. The HK USP Match is a wicked-looking gun. Too bad it's not manufactured anymore, and it's pretty expensive.

What would you need one for?

Go to the shooting range once every few months, shoot a box of ammo at the targets, have lots of fun, go home, repeat.

Self-defense.

Certainly valid reasons for wanting a USP Match. Personally though, if I found myself in possession of one I would hang on to it until I found someone willing to give me 3,800 bucks for it then take the money and get pair of Mark 23's. Or maybe just one Mark 23 and an FS2000.
