Where are these areas? is it like some sort of Hell area?

Maybe the concept of the Lost Valley was originally meant to be a dried out river bed? Maybe thats why its so green and moldy looking and the reason for the bridge? And maybe instead of the dinosaurs they had crocs?

But I have never seen the other screenshots from what appears to be TR3..

Thanks for sharing! :D

You still run along the dry riverbed there is just no croc there though, you stop the waterfall and go along it to collect a secret. Larson following Lara around Peru was changed, and Pierre did it in St. Francis Folly levels instead. Perhaps we were at one point going to get crocs and dinosaurs in the lost valley, although I cannot at the moment find the screenshot that put that idea in my head. There was plenty of water for the crocs in the lost valley.

Wait.. where is the dry riverbed? do you mean that little river where you have to use the cogs to close the gate?

I was talking about the Valley itself being a riverbed. :)

Why would the valley have ever been a river? It has skeletons, trees, grass and a temple. Seems unlikely they would have built the temple in the valley if it was going to flood. There is absolutely no reason to ever think it was anything but what it was in the final game.

maybe the crocodiles came from that river and made their way to the valley?:o

The valley is full of waterfalls, ponds and underground water areas, they could have lived there quite easily.

I think they were using crocs to replace the dino's while they were still making them :)

Those things might not have even been there in the BETA or the versions before release.

It is still possible to have the lost valley as a dried riverbed that lost its water hundreds of years ago. That would also explain the bridge, and why the temple is raised higher than the rest of the valley. The crocs could have simply survived in small pockets or ponds of water around the valley.

Its just a possibility.... :whi:

I always thought that the valley was a dried up riverbed. The bridge, all the caverns, the waterfalls all point to that. The water from various lakes and streams would have come into the valley via the waterfalls. The water would have corroded the rock making caverns and lowering the water level. The Incas built a temple there with steps to measure the level of water each flood season. Making a bridge for them to cross. The spanish invade and kill the incas leaving the riverbed abandoned. Over the next five-hunded or so years the river breaks through to an underground cavern and the water drains. Seeds from trees in the surrounding forest blow down into the now dry riverbed and grow. Various explorers explore but are killed. Then along comes lara...

I love this idea! I wish they kept to it, it would actually have been cool if the whole thing flooded at the end of the level, or something :)
