View Full Version : Should old people be allowed on game forums?

I was reading this Wikipedia article about Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comic_Book_Guy - and it says things like "the character is an adult who argues with kids as if they're his peers." Now I'm a silver surfer myself, and yet I'll happily argue with a 13 year old about whether Lara should have a plait or not. If an interest in Tomb Raider something that ought to be restricted to people of, say, under 30?

Absolutely no restrictions. I'd rather be a member of a forum that accepts everyone. It's better to have a lot of different perspectives. ;)

why should an age be a problem for that? anyway it's not so many people here who are above 30. people are arguing all the time and age is not a reason for that. different and wrong opinions that's it.

We need older people on forums to educate the little ones, lol.

30 would put me on the outs. I turned 33 earlier this month. I signed up before I realized most of the members were significantly younger than I am. It's still a pretty cool forum though.

The only debates that I find are little more difficult to steer clear of are some of the political and philosophical ones. Although that problem usually gets solved fairly quickly because they inevitably devolve into something akin to a mud pit brawl. By the time I've formulated my two cents worth it's usually become so nasty I don't care to post or be anywhere near the thread.

The age of a person seems irrelevant, there should be different perspectives. Isn't it a good thing that peeps of different generations can have a debate about something, I think it brings people together ;)

People over the age of like, 22 or something are a rarity here, I welcome them with open arms. :vlol:

Jedd Fletcher

I'd similarly welcome anybody of any age here! It's wonderful hearing opinions and views from across the board, and it's cool to be in your golden years yet up to date with the gaming world.

30-08-09, 09:30
I think anyone should be allowed on the forum as long as they keep to the rules and guidelines. The majority (:pi:) of people here are extremely nice and "older" people are nice too, so why shouldn't they be allowed?

adventurerLara
30-08-09, 10:57
Of course, people of all ages should be welcomed here. It's valuable to have a range of opinions and perspectives.

The OP stated that they were a silver surfer (and don't confuse that for a Marvel character :p) so they are over 55 by that definition ;) We had a thread not too long ago where a few members were mentioned that are in their 60's

I recall once browsing the forums members pages, by going on the calendar and found someone the age of 78... I'll see if I can find that person again...

It's great to have older people on here, who on earth would be mature enough to mod this place if the mods were like 15?

Oh my :yik:

Well the forum was created by someone over 30 and they browse everyday. I don't think there is a problem with older members on the forum or younger ones for that matter I am 16 myself and soon 17 and I predict in the next 10 years I'll still be on the forum because it's in my daily schedule :p

Nope, definately not otherwise I'd be chucked out.;) I only got into TR because my niece had TR3, then later AOD. My niece soon got bored with TR and now it's one of my hobbies/obsessions,:jmp::o so I don't think that age has much to do with it.:)
When I first joined I was surprised at the wide age range of members here on TR forums; I suppose I was expecting everyone to be under 30 but they're not and I think that's a good thing. Lots of different points of view.:tmb:

Well there were people playing games before you were even born, or before it suddenly became so popular with all ages. It would hardly be surprising some mature age gamers can be found on a game forum. And then some started gaming when they were already over 30, does not mean we are any less entitled to be fans of our favourite game. Just means we can usually communicate in actual English rather than some woeful version you need an interpreter to understand. :ton:

Catapharact
31-08-09, 03:33
Well then if we are going about the age segrigation business, I say that anyone who is 17 or under at TRF is incapable of discussing ANYTHING coherently and logically. Infact their defination of a discussion is usually a oneliner followed by some goofy comment about how they adore Lara Croft and want to be her.

Since forums are a place of discussion, I say we remove everyone here who is 17 or under.

Oh and you guys can take Johnnay with you. He will be exiled because of special circumstances.

I feel that the forum is more colorful when there's people of different ages about. Certainly there's more exposure to different trains of thought. I don't see how a restriction can be justified :)
