View Full Version : God of war I-II coming to ps3
Reworked versions of God of War and God of War II, featuring smoother graphics running at a faster frame rate, hit stores this holiday on a single Blu-ray disc, Sony Computer Entertainment announced this morning.
God of War Collection will feature both Playstation 2 games running at 1280 by 720 resolution and 60 frames a second. The collection, which will cost $40, will also include trophy support for the games.
"We are excited today to announce God of War Collection," said Scott Rohde, vice president, Worldwide Studios America. "Our fans spoke and we listened; thanks to our partnership with Bluepoint Games, fans and newcomers to the series can experience the epic God of War and God of War II saga in stunning 720p on PS3. This Blu-ray Disc compilation brings Kratos to PS3 even earlier than expected."
The collection comes just months before God of War III is scheduled to hit stores on March 2010 for the Playstation 3.
The idea of a Blu-ray collection of the two PS2 games, which sell used for about $35 total at Gamestop, first came to light in April when a survey leaked about the notion.

That's interesting. I might try it out. I wasn't fond of the PS2 title, but I may give it another go. :)
Hurray for reselling you your old stuff :yah:
Wouldn't seem so redundent if they'd include some sort of extra incentive. Is being able to run it at a higher resolution really worth it?

Well, for people who dont have Backwards Compatible PS3's then I'd say there was plenty of incentive.
It really doesnt cost much for a ps2.

Less than the difference between this compilation and buying the two PS2 games, and the console itself?

Costs less to buy the reworked versions of the games.

Yes, it is. I would gladly re-buy something if it was improved. I've always wished they would release TRL and TRA in a pack on PS3.

When I read the title I assumed they were coming to Playstation Network, then I remembered that applies only to games on the original Playstation.
This is a pretty cool idea, in my opinion. I'd love to see more compilations appearing on the PS3 in the future, particularly for older games on consoles like the Sega Saturn and Dreamcast. If there was a Tomb Raider Classics Collection with the original five games, plus unlockable content and smoother graphics, I'd buy that in an instant.
AmericanAssassin - I was just thinking, if they'd do this for God of War I-II, why not Legend and Anniversary? They did release a PSP double-pack, so it's possible.
PS2 games onto PS3? I would love for them to do this with Legend and Anni - both with xbox 360 graphics.

I would love for Legend and Anni on the 360 to be ported on the PS3. I'd get it! :tmb:
It seems pretty shady though. Instead of just including in the first place, or patching in working backward compatibility, they're more than willing to sell you a PS2 or PS2 games ported onto Blu Ray.

But God of War is one of Sony's AAAAA-list franchises. Guaranteed money, and that goes triple if there's trophy support.

Yes, I'm so pleased, I never played the first 2 (so that's my incentive :D) and I'm pretty sure the sales weren't brilliant, so there are plenty more who haven't.
Please make notes Eidos, I hope more companies consider this as a viable way to make use of Bluray.
But on a negative note, this says a lot about their plans for PS2 BC. :(
Edit;
There are rumours that it could come with a GOWIII demo included.
I heard about it several days back. I'm interested and I might buy it later. :tmb:

Actually, God of War is one of Sony's highest selling franchises.
The second sold 2 million (ranked 62nd), which considering the install base, isn't that much. All I'm saying is a lot of people won't have played either, especially people who were too young when those games were released.
Do you think Team ICO might do this too?

Team ICO would probably be the most likely to do this too.
That's good I guess, since I never played the old ones.
Next: Eidos will release Legend and Anniversary on the PS3.

They wouldn't even have to change anything, just port them.I would be so happy if they'd do this, maybe for TR's 15th anniversary.
Thats awesome i may check it out. I agree ^ They really should do that for TRL and TRA.

Boasting about 360-exclusive DLC a few months before release and not releasing the demo outside Microsoft platforms counts as a screw-up in my book.

Interesting.
I haven't played either of the two games, so I might just pick this up, especially if they're being upgraded (and the price doesn't seem too shabby either).

I missed the whole God Of War craze on PS2 but now I might have to try out the series.
If other games jump on this band wagon then it really would be cheaper to just buy a ps2 and the old games. Ps2 for like £30 and the games are like less than a tenner. Obviously as a one off its ok.

There's still no need for two disks really, but I think asking for every single TR main game to be released is a little much. :p
They should do TR1-5 rendered in high resolution, maybe with those gorgeous texture mods and better lighting. And/Or a TRL/A disk, although porting the 360 version would be quite difficult, so the games wouldn't be that cheap.
Oh and maybe some of the best outfit mods released for the games, and some TRU disk content. :whi:
Why am I even discussing this? It would be more worthwhile me planning a trip to the moon. :vlol:
Why am I even discussing this? It would be more worthwhile me planning a trip to the moon. :vlol:
And with them likely knowing how much some people want a TR collection, probably cheaper. :tea:
I'd be happy with 2 different discs, it would nicely separate the majority of the classics and...the others. :p (the latter of which could probably be called the Controversy Pack judging by what would be on it :pi: ).
But since that'll probably never happen...I'll stick with the GoW Collection for now. :D

Well, that's good news for GoW fans. Well, since this is how Sony are going to put PS2 games up for PS3, instead of simple BC or putting them up on Playstation Network:rolleyes: I hope they re-release the following PS2 games:
Ratchet and Clank 1-4
Jak and Daxter 1-X
Sly Cooper Trilogy
Prince of Persia SoT Trilogy
Tomb Raider AoD/Legend/Anniversary(the classics would be most likely re-released on Playstation Store since TR1/TR2 are already up)
They could even make an EyeToy camera for PS3 so they can than re-release the Eyetoy games.

There are languages other than English in Europe :p
Although don't US games usually have Spanish and French anyway?
Although don't US games usually have Spanish and French anyway?
I'd have thought so too, though considering that the EU is probably a lot more diverse in regards to "mainstream" native languages than America is, there may be extra localisation issues after all.
Either way, it's a bit disappointing that it's being delayed, though I'm not too surprised. The EU tends to get everything last anyway, though at least in most cases it's only a matter of days... (unless of course it's a PSN title, which usually means a wait of several months in some cases :p )
2 full PS2 games on one Bluray disc
good move by Sony imo and something they should consider for most of it's wholly owned franchises (i'd buy a re-tooled Syphon Filter series for sure) :D
to the above posters about the EU. if i read correctly, and if i know my PS3 correctly..........it's format is Bluray, PS3 games are region free ;) i wouldn't be surprised if this disc is region free too as it would technically be a PS3 title.
worth thinking about before the complaints get louder :vlol: ;)
