From Wikipedia...
Haemolacria is a physical condition that causes a person to produce tears that are partially composed of blood. It can manifest as tears that are anything from merely red-tinged to appearing to be entirely made of blood.

Haemolacria is a symptom of a number of diseases, and may also be indicative of a tumor in the lacrimal apparatus. It is most often provoked by local factors such as bacterial conjunctivitis, environmental damage or injuries.

Occult haemolacria can occur in fertile women and seems to be induced by hormones.

Heard about this earlier today, dreadful, but in a way scientifically amazing.

Voltz has posted a possible explanation there, but according to the boy's mother quite a few tests have been done without being able to determine a cause or an underlying illness.
Now unless I have missed something I actually think that this is a good sign. Apart from a burning sensation occasionally, there does not seem to be any discomfort or pain involved.
So yes, it is unusual, but surely something one can live with?

Yes, but imagine going out in public, and seeing someone crying blood ? You'd be horrified and would probably overreact and ask them if they were okay.

THAT would be hard to live with.

On that I agree.
But knowing that it happens he could be prepared, carrying dark coloured handkerchiefs.
And there are many people out there who get stared at, commented on and asked a lot of questions. Just think Tourette syndrome, narcolepsy, certain skin conditions and the like. I think they have it just as bad if not worse.
I am not saying it is easy to live with, but looking at some of the posts here you could think that he is about to die.

Yeah agreed. Maybe he could wear sun glasses ? :D

Very strange but also a little fascinating. I will admit though it does make me feel slightly queasy. Just think of the medical bills that have mounted up for the mother. :yik:

I think the initial shock of seeing images of this person with streams of blood running down his face can have a sort of compassionate effect. Plus, considering the rarity of his condition.

A guy in my school would occasionally weep blood, very 007, he had an operation and was fine....

Iíve cried blood during two very, very heavy nosebleeds, once when I was about four and again a few years ago. I always find the way it unsettles people amusing. :p

They had a Bond villain with that condition in Casino Royale. Good film that was. :)

It's quite sad for the kid. Not that he'll suffer physically from it, I think. You only need a few drops of blood to turn water red, so I doubt he'll get anemia from it (unless he cries all day long :p). It will get a bit messy when he cries though. :o

It's sad because some people won't understand and think he's a freak or 'cursed' or something. :(

That's pretty awful, but if there's nothing wrong with him that would cause him too die it is pretty neat. Vampire...:whi:
