View Full Version : Some men look good in makeup

Ever since I saw The Cure way back, I've been convinced some men look good in makeup.

Asian guys (http://www.flickr.com/photos/chrisofthecross/368954377/in/photostream/)seem to pull it off the best.

So who do you think needs to be taken to the Mac store?

Depends what kind of make-up.

You should see some of the unbelievable hot guys who go clubbing, with a tiny bit of concealer on, maybe even a bit of fake tan.

SOOOOOOOO gorgeous... even the straight guys do it in my city.

It's definitely opinionated.. :whi:

I like my guys without makeup, and even prefer girls without it, natural beauty is the best there is. :tmb:

I don't think many would disagree that natural beauty is even better (I don't disagree), but I think in many cases a little make-up goes along way, for a guy, straight or gay.

I haven't yet met a person lucky enough to be naturally beautiful. Everybody looks plain and unnoticeable.

But I do believe women and men both have the right to use make up to make themselves look and feel better.

Some guys look great in make-up. :)
Others overdo it or use wrong colours.

I wear make-up myself sometimes. Black eyeliner is too dark for me and looks weird. A medium brown suits the skin better and looks more subtle. :)

Hot guys in make-up. Hawt. :cln:

Men with obvious ”girly” make up really aren’t pretty. If they use something subtle that make them look better, that's a different thing. I mean the kind of make up most guys have on before they go on TV, not eyeliner and such. Most young guys use make up these days anyway, or so it seems.

I had to wear make-up when I did a stage production at school and it just feels weird on my face. Had to wear foundation, eye-liner and IFIRC some mascara as well. Even if it looked good on me, which I don't think it does, I still couldn't bothered to do wear it.

Legend 4ever
19-09-09, 18:20
Honestly, shadows, mascara, lipstick, lip gloss NO, never, that's not male makeup and if not for stage, men don't need it(unless they want to lol)

I don't like men wearing foundation either. Something like Touche Eclat is fine, you can't even notice it, it looks good and it's not unnatural. Same with clear mascara and brow gel. Now, eyeliner is a tricky. I'm kinda on the verge with it. Sometimes it looks OK, sometimes not.

Read about him and listen to his music then you'll see where the look came from! One of my ex's told me about him, personally i love the way he just struts his stuff and doesn't care!
But id have to say, men in make-up some can look hot, then others can look completely mingin'. Ive used make-up before, and no-one i mean no-one battered an eyelid.. was amazing to feel within myself the confidence that i had about my skin.

Some men do look fine with a minimum of make-up. As Eleana says it is a form of expression. I personally prefer a fresh clean look, but all for their own. Sometimes of course make-up is needed for work/hobby situations such as being on stage or film, even just a little because otherwise the face can sort of disappear under bright lights.

Hey. When I wrote my first post (above) I had a few forum members in mind. Candee, you look fantastic with make up, and have better technique and style than all the girls I know. I'm impressed and jealous at the same time! You always look great.

Lolita is a subculture in Japanese. A very popular one actually. Japanese people view beauty differently from the Western world ;)

The question is Mana is an artist and you are not, Mana lives in Japan and you do not. Obviously in Europe or in America, you'd certainly be mocked if you walked in such clothes and make-up, but in Japan, where in the Okatu culture, Lolita, Manga & Anime are extremely popular, not to mention the J-Rock and the J-Metal, that's common basis for them.

Other thing, Goths are not related to Lolita. Lolitas are not Gothic. Not even Gothic Lolita are Goth. It's a misleading term for those you don't know it. Gothic Lolita is a "dark" version of the Lolita itself but it has very little (or nothing) to do with Gothic subculture, which is strongly European by its nature.

But that's a debate for other topic...

Marilyn Manson is very inspired by Alien Sex Fiend, which is quite obvious honestly, but I am not a fan of them - they are not exactly the prototype for Goth scene or any kind of inspiration for me, so Marilyn Manson in terms of style doesn't move at all...

And these teens actually like that. I mean... But I can't blame them, teens simply don't get it... It's not a matter of being "cool" or just being "different". I don't usually dispute anyone, but what you've just said is pretty hypocritical after Minty Mouth was flamed for being ignorant towards Visual Kei and Gothic Lolita.

There is always going to be a "mainstream" and you can dislike it as much as you want, but someone can come along and give very valid reasons as to why this is appealing at this time.

Sorry, are going to tell ME that Bill Kaulitz doesn't look "commercially manipulated"? Buddy, look, you have to understand the music industry a bit more before you start that kind of arguments. Currently, specially since early 2000's, there is a certain type of image that have become extremely "commerically attractive" to teen audiences and you can see that specially with Emo Rock for example. Tokio Hotel is strongly based on their vocalist's looks, actually everything in that band looks extremely manipulated. The music is too simplistic for the band to even grow on it, the looks are extremely generic and the whole atittude only looks genuine to teens.

That he "may" have a valid reason is merely a supposition, you're writing your opinion as I did with mine. Let's wait 3 years from now on and we'll talk about Tokio Hotel if they even exist by then ;)

A little bit of eyeliner can make a man look better. I don't like the smudged/grungy eyeliner look though. Also some powder if they have an oily complexion or concealer if they have any distracting flaws.

Foundation, eye shadow, mascara, blush, and lip color is going overboard in my opinion. :p

Honey, in Europe, I remember like 6 years ago watching one hour of Heavy Metal in MTV - even gore bands that I would never think watching in such channel. Even though I reject Heavy Metal, calling a band like Emperor commerical is pure LOL material :vlol:

I have to admit that experience changed my whole perception about MTV.

I saw some really, REALLY, obscure indie music on MTV2. And I also found out some great stuff through it. I wouldn't say MTV is ALL commercial, just that the majority of what appears in there is.

Jared Leto somehow makes it work... kinda.

Johnny Depp looks heavenly with eyeliner on (he looks good with anything on...or off O_o)...And considering that I love hair metal (Motley Crue = fav) most of those guys looked good with makeup :D

Oh and Adam Lambert = Perfection

Okay, Make-up and Men have been a part of everybody's culture since the beginning of time. It was used for Tribal Tattoos and other nonsense, so mean and make-up ain't such a far away pair of concepts.

And on the topic of Bands wearing make-up, I just don't see why they do it. Some are just emo I guess, but I don't get it, others just do it because others will like them thinking they're emo?

On a side note: Do any of the male members of Paramore wear make-up?

;)

Yes, because every single band in the world where male members wear make-up are emo and want to be portrayed as such :vlol:

What an interesting point of view :D

Buddy, even before this emocore and emo rock movement, Punk Rock, Heavy Metal, Doom, Glam, Gothic Rock, Deathrock, Gore, Black Metal and Dark Cabaret bands' male members in the 60's, the 70's, the 80's and early 90's were already wearing make-up - for some reason, I extremely doubt they wanted others to think they were emo (if they even knew what that was at the time) :vlol:

About men and the Eyeliner look:

I tried the Kohl eye look for a photograph just once... JUST once; To shut the makeup for men group up for good since they went on and on about how I shouldn't comment on it if I haven't tried it. For those who don't know about Kohl, its a traditional cosmetic used by the Egyptians and concequently, most of the Middle Eastern and East Asian nations to darken their eyes for astetic reasons.

I swear it felt so foreign and so wrong! I couldn't wait to wash it off! I personally don't know how women put up with slapping cosmetics on their faces. However, I do appreciate the effort ladies. I really do.

Anyway me with the Kohl look:

Jared would look fine if he didn't pile the eyeliner on so thickly.

He looks MUCH better without.

I think Maynard Keenan looks good with makeup, though.

Hmm it really just depends on their facial features. If the makeup is natural looking then that is fine, but drastic heavy make up in a no for anyone especially too much of a smoldering dramatic eyes.
