I think the way they showed the trailer the way they did was so they would avoid showing too much. I have heard nothing but good about this film so I doubt it's scary because it's "bad".

I'm seriously not trying to hype it up, but never have I felt like I was going to puke just from being scared.

If people do plan on seeing this movie, do not go into expecting to be scared. The experience might be different for everyone.

Funnily enough, I went into the film thinking people were overreacting in the trailer. But the reactions in the trailer were exactly the same reaction the audience had when I saw it.

Like I said earlier, the reason they probably didn't show too much was because they didn't want to show too many scenes. I can say it was a good idea because the film suprised me.

I think if it's sucessful enough after the nationwide thing they will release it in other countries.

Well originally when they first showed it to an audience people were leaving (not because they thought it sucked) but because it was that terrifying. So I am guessing they were just testing the waters so to speak and seeing how many people actually wanted to see it before the released it nationwide.

I thought it was a good film. I suppose one of the things that made it scary is the fact that it is just an ordinary couple in their home. There are no abondoned fairgrounds or such like here. The way the film is shot adds to the reality as well. I would think that anyone who believes in ghosts or things that go bump in the night would find it scary. Another good thing about it is that it is not what you see that is terrifying. Refreshing to see a decent psychological horror.

I do believe in ghost, and the like, but I still felt like it was trying to hard to make you believe certain things. tward the end I grew to like it a little, saying why couldn't most of the movie had been like this (even though it was based on a real couple) but even the ending couldn't save this film for me. maybe if htey had better actors instead of look alikes, It might have saved it. But, in the end, it's not a win for me. I would not recommend this movie to anyone. please... :hea:

but If you like it, I wont knock you for it, I just didn't see the scary part in a movie that was supposed to be scary. more of a documentary, If anything.

Carbonek_0051
22-10-09, 12:45
It's not trying too hard. It was an independent film, and wasn't trying to be anything big. But it turned into something big after so many people gave it good reviews. So I really don't see how it's trying to hard.

The film is actually really good, of course if you go into the film expecting too much then you'll be disappointed. I have heard nothing but good about the film, and I would recommend it in a heartbeat.

The way they used an audience acting frightened is what leads me to beleive they are trying too hard. Just makes it look silly to me.

The trailer may be retarded. The movie hovewer is not. Itīs smart psychological horror and the best mockumentary horror movie since The Blair Witch Project - a movie that is ironically celebrating itīs 10th anniversary this month-. Just the nature of the film alone is aimed at old school horror fans so obviously if you canīt watch Rosemaryīs Baby or The Haunting without feeling bored itīs not a movie for you. This and The House of the Devil are propably the most anti mainstream horror movies to be released this year. The audiences are spoiled by modern horror movies that usually attack on the senses from the get go... but older movies actually spend much more time establishing mood, atmosphere and characters (Look at this yearīs Orphan... another example of "old school horror").

Hovewer itīs definitely not the movie the marketing campaign makes it out to be.

I'm a tough audience when it comes to horror movies... I really am.

So to say I actually feel shaken after watching this... is quite the compliment. I think that to actually enjoy it you have to be in a certain state of mind, and like Survival said, not expect your average flick where the "scary" scenes are gimmicks with the most frightening imagery they could think of.

There is not a single scene I'd point out as the scariest... just the whole thing has a very weird vibe about it and definitely, for those that are more affected by it, make you think twice about what was that noise in the middle of the night...

I was very sceptical but was pleasantly surprised.

i just saw this film last night. I thought it really was a phonaominal film. It is deffinatly not for the same audiance that thinks Saw is horror brilliance. This is more of a suspence film if nothing else. The problem with most horror films these days is that they iuse false scares and jump scenes way to much. This movie really has you watching small deatail and noticing things on your own. There is no score and it is all shot through one camera. It feels like it could be a true story. The end of the film felt a little forced to me tho. at least the last fe seconds. Ther rest of the film is scary not so much because of the film it self but because there are acctual reports of all of these phonomina happening. If you like well paced, suspenceful horror and you are sick of blood and gore, this film is for you. If you love saw and hostal and you think that that is horror (its not) then pass on this.

I saw it last night and I was scared to death when I came home.. the movie is very realistic and that's what makes it so scary, the fact that it's just a normal couple with a ghost problem (that a lot of people think they have) which turns into so much more because of certain actions.

The last few bedroom scenes were awesome.. and the acting was top notch! I haven't been this scared since I was a child.. and it wasn't the movie was that shocking, it was because it taps into the most primal fear the human has.. the fear of being in a situation where you're COMPLETELY helpless. Love it!

Fail movie is fail. Not scary at all. A couple of good creepy jump moments that's about it.

It COULD have been a brilliant movie - if they were willing to flesh it out a bit more. An hour and a half (90 minutes) for a ghost movie as detailed as this is just not enough.

There's apparently talks of a sequel.

IMO it's not the scariest movie ever. You've seen Ju-On right? IMO that one was way scarier in the way that it sticks with you after it's finished... this one is more traditional horror (in a good way) and it has a tense atmosphere through it. I'd say give it a shot.

Saw this movie a couple of weeks ago... didn't really scare me, but I can understand why some would be scared. I liked how it was like a "true" type of haunting, not those average silly Hollywood hauntings where things are popping out at you every 5 seconds. I think what made Paranormal Activity creepy is that you never actually saw what was haunting their home.

But just wanted to say... there must be multiple endings, because I never saw anyone fly at the camera at the end like a few people have just said. Will put next part in white... After katie went downstairs near the end, she screamed, then we heard loud stomps coming upstairs, it was her, and then she sat on the floor against the bed and rocked back and forth all night, and all of the following day. Her friend came by to see what was up since she'd not heard from them in a while, and she found Micah's dead body and called police. Shortly later, police show up, search the house, and Katie leaves the room with a knife in her hand, back to her normal self asking where Micah is (She was possessed by the entity before and killed Micah herself downstairs) and the police saw her approaching with the knife and shot her. A door slammed behind them, they went to check, found nothing, and that was the end of the movie. So not sure what you guys mean. :p

Okay, wait, just googled it... there are three endings. One where Micah is thrown at the camera and Katie kneels down to sniff his body, the one I just described above, and another where Katie walks up to the camera and slits her own throat. Creepy.

I saw the movie last night. I did like it but I didn't find it scary at all.
I read descriptions of the alternative endings and they both sound much better than the theatrical version. SPOILERS They should have just have her throw Micah at the camera and sniff him which was suitably creepy. The demonic face-morphing and looking into the camera was cheesy and unnecessary, not to mention that it didn't fit with the tone of rest of the movie.

Hell yes! Especially teenage girls... if anything they should be banned from the cinema altogether!

Absolutely loved this film, despite all the pathetic screaming by other members of the audience! Really chilling and left me quite scared of the dark by the time I got home! :o

I have seen it..
Anyone who is scared of this, should consider him-herself to be a wuss. ;o
There is not really anything going on but a bunch of babbling and lame standing ;o
That's about it.

I take it you're more of a Saw or Hostel fan then, ie blood and guts and obvious gore and horror rather than having to use your imagination and suspending reality for the duration of the movie?!;)

saw it the other week, and can safely say it was one of THE best horror films in existence!! :D

the horror genre is SO bleugh recently, and it's affected everyone's view of it. As in, if it doesn't have a killer and gore it's crap. And I don't think the people who say it's bad can appreciate it, they need explosions of blood and gore to entertain them. It was such a breath of fresh air, it had a very specific pace, and relied entirely on character development, which is what made the movie scary. I also loved the night-time camera shot, when that shot appeared EVERYONE in the cinema adjusted and/or covered their faces with a coat :p

Here here!!! :tmb:

The only thing I think that let it down was the fact the entity was a demon... the last 3 horror films I have seen had demons... I would have preferred something that was unknown or was a "human" ghost, as demons now seem to be the flavour of the month! And at least there's a chance of a ghost being "real" when a demon kind of takes away the realism...

Still scared the crap outta me! :)

yes I agree! It's odd that when I saw this, as soon as I got home I rented and watched Drag Me To Hell, also a film about a demon tormenting a girl :p

Not being scared of that movie doesn't automatically mean that we're a fan of movies with obvious gore and horror you know.

I get hardly scared when I watch a horror movie, that doesn't mean I love movies like Saw or Hostel. ;)

so, was the demon a physical being?

since it made sounds when walking, left footprints in the baby powder, and needed to open a door to get into a room.

maybe its just invisible?

and what do demons do when not scaring people? are they just like us, and watch tv or read a book or something?

I was thinking about that too. And I made a conclusion for myself, that he was abstract being, but he could make himself physical when he wanted to. I think he could just walk through the door for example, but he wanted to open it instead. So for the footprints and everything.
It's not like they were bumping into him while walking around, because he was abstract :)

Thas why i prefer ghostly apparitions rather then demons.. Demons have to have a real presence about them to do things, which then gets missed in the whole `so he can do that but NOT that` dilemma.. ie so he can appear anywhere but needs to open a door etc.. yes i know could say in a movie it heightens tension to have a door slam but the demon aint hollywood (or maybe it is!! ;)) hehe..

theres a definite difference in the genre between the subtle and the obvious. Gross out vs psyche out :)

i like both but love it when i find my hairs on back of neck standing on end because of something i DIDN'T see but my subconcious detected.. For me paranormal activity triggered that on a few occasions

A lot of comments have seen on other sites, like reviews etc gives impression of that, so many `that wasnt scary bring on saw 17` etc.. the imagination is where the fear comes from.. if u were really in that situation u'd be scared :)

Well, after seeing Paranormal activity and searching on the web about demons, I concluded this:

[SPOILERS AHEAD!!!]

So, as wikipedia says that demons are temporary spirits that need a love to free away from theirselves.

So what do I think?
Remember when Micah saw his and Katie's photo where his face was all scratched?

Maybe the demon wanted Katie's love, but It couldn't, because Micah was her love.
So the demon maybe tried to warn Micah to stay away or else the demon would ''eat'' Katie.
After all these warnings and after using the Ouija, Micah still ignored it and joked it.
What happened?
The demon pushed Katie's leg and bit her, thus making it getting inside Katie's body and being with her soul.
What can you conclude?
Now that the demon had ''Katie's Love'' it could easily remove Micah from his plans, so he faked the screams and catches Micah, then throwing it to the camera and sniffing him, and dissipate, because the demon finally had what it wanted, Katie's love!

^Honestly? I don't think that's even remotely what they were trying to achieve with the story here. Specially considering the alternate endings and the original ending, that does nothing to corroborate that theory.

So yeah, good find but no XD

I otherwise liked the film, it's really different from anything I've seen and it was pretty scary.

Just my opinion.

I agree with the last two posts, not scary at all. I don't like saw either. Saw movies are disturbing but not scary.

The last time a film scared me was The Grudge (the first one, because part two sucks).

Well, I'm glad that people are coming to their senses because this was crap. Not scary, boring...

I usually don't like cam horror movies like Blair Witch and Quarantine, and the only cam horror I liked was the original Spanish version of Quarantine, Rec.

I honestly can't believe someone found this scary. I can't believe all my friends were like: OMG it's amazing.

IMO it's stupid.

The movie was good. like. when there asleep and the time gos fast, and then it slows down and you know something will happend. its so creepy! but i did NOT like the ending at all. it was really douchey. like it was crazy when Katie went down stairs and was screaming and like ****ing crazy, and mika went down there and i assume she stasbbed him and then she just sat there for days and the friend came by, i thought the demon thing killed her. cause she was like "OMG *** SHFWJFW" and the everything flipping around i and then everything stopped i thoughted it killed her too. but when the police came and she was like "MIKA MIKA WTF WERES MIKA!!!?!?!?!" and he shot her i was like He shot her? cause it was like *pew* all stupid like. and it was just really stupid. i wish it was better than that. what was the ending when he flew backwards twards the camera?

Yeah thatīs what really suprised me. Considering the fact the first two seasons of Supernatural were practically retold famous horror movies itīs like Aranara never saw Poltergeist or every other supernatural horror movie out there for example.

Yup Black Christmas it is. I re-used this avatar every Christmas :D
