from That Video Game Blog (http://www.thatvideogameblog.com/):

Molyneux, known for being the spotlight-hogging creator of the Fable series, recently discussed his five most innovative games of the last 20 years, and Tomb Raider made that list!

“The best innovations come from challenging the foundation stones of conventional wisdom,” he said.

Molyneux praised Eidos for challenging the notion that a hero had to be a massively-muscled man. In creating Lara Croft, Eidos created an enduring character that subverted convention and in doing so created an icon.

The other members of the list include Dune 2, Mario 64, Halo and World of Warcraft. Click below if you're interested in reading more about those picks.

I love seeing how the old Tomb Raider games still keep getting praise to this day. Also I have a lot to thank Molyneux for :p He created the Dungeon Keeper games. My favourite stratergy games ever. Shame EA ruined it all by cancelling it.

hmmmm this doesn't only apply to tomb raider from the outside game world, but also from inside tomb raider itself. tomb raider is an innovation therefor it should keep innovating after about a 10 year pause:)

Tomb Raider? What? Has he ever played a Tomb Raider game? Those are some of the most horrible games ever made.

Silly kids :p.

Eidos didn't create anything. Core created Tomb Raider, and Lara Croft.

Eidos published the creation.

Yeah, it bugs me they refer to Eidos instead of Core... it's not like they created it, they sure did give the money, but the idea wasn't theirs, as we all know - Eidos actually objected to the idea at first glance, as they confessed in 'Are you game?' featurette on the Tomb Raider movie DVD.

^Yup.It's sad that the people who had put their hearts and souls usually never get mentioned.Instead the suits from Eidos are getting all the glory.

Molyneux, being a developer himself should have known better and at least give credit where is due.

I think Tomb raider one should be in anyone top games list of the past 20 years.
I remember playing it for the first time on christmas day on my brand new sega saturn haha.
Just being amazed everytime something new happened, like falling into water and instead of dying, going for a swim.
Good times ;)

That was him? Now I feel guilty for laughing at Yahtzee's jokes about him in the Fable reviews :vlol: I love the Dungeon Keeper games.

If I made a list of the top five influential games in gaming history, I would say Doom, Tomb Raider, StarCraft, Diablo, and Final Fantasy series. World of Warcraft would get an honorable mention for actually managing to kill people in real life, though :pi:

Of course it's one of the top 5 video game innovations in the last 20 years. You have to be mad, or work as a reviewer for IGN or be misogynistic (or both :whi:), to not see this.

Eidos were nuts to give up on Core. There's a difference between innovation and creativity and the technical ability to use creative software tools. Core had the former two in abundance. Technical ability you can always buy in - it's nowhere near as hard to find.

Nintendos Mario ?

Hey, what about his competition ... Segas Sonic the Hedgehog ;)

You were either a Mario fan or a Sonic fan. I loved that hedgehog :p

At the end of a Sonic level, your eyes were spinning with bright primary colours and seeing rings of gold, suffering from epileptic fits, headaches and nausea. It was great :D

PS...At least with Lara Croft you only had to focus on her rear :vlol:

Well, to be sure that's the usual view, but occasionally we are treated to a side shot. :)
