Hmm I know exactly what you mean Sparky...
I'm 22 and I still don't know what I really want with my life....I wanted to be a vet at an animals hospital but I don't have enough points to get into such an education, the competition is way too hard.
I had to give that dream up.
So now I'm studying to be a nurse instead.....but I'm not really sure I want that...somedays I feel it's right and then other days it just feels like I don't really want it.
So it's confusing.... :(
I wonder whether I'm always gonna feel that "this wasn't my first choice"...
But still I have to do something to make a living...
Well Sparky this whole pressure with having to choose what do with ones life is just a pain!! At least when you don't know what to do.... http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/c-3.gif
I'm hoping it will figure itself out....somehow, someday... ;)

Hey SpArky!!!! You aren't alone dear in your dilemma I think a lot of people feel the way you do at your age. Have you spoken to a careers advisor? Your local library or employment agency should be able to point you in the right direction as to where you might find one. They might be able to help. ;) Keep your chin up, these things have a way of working themselves out. ;)

Thanks for your replies, we do have a careers advisor etc, but they cannot help me, if i dont help myself. But how can help myself if i dont know what help i need.

If that makes any sense at all

I have been looking at courses and Universities, but it also goes on how many UCAS points i need for the University to let me in, its just a no win situation.

But i will keep you informed.

Oh the joys of figuring out what to do with one's life!

Trust me I understand what you are going through... Infact, I (along with millions of others) am going through the same thing. Right now I am 21 years old and I'm studying to become an Elementary School Teacher. I'm really not quite sure if that's what I want for my life: to be stuck in a classroom day in and day out. I want to travel all around the world, and how will I do that if I have a class to teach?

But then, I love little kids, and I was told once (by a teacher) that I should seriously concider the profession of teaching. I think it would be a good job, but there's really a LOT more to it than just teaching little kids math and reading and such. You wouldn't think it would be that hard until you've taken these courses I am taking now.

But cheer up! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/hug.gif At least take comfort in knowing that you are not alone in this confusing time. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/grouphug.gif

It's alot of mixed feelings when you're educating yourself to be something you're not sure you really want to do...
But then again....there is the problem, what would I do instead??
I have millions of things that I WANT to do with my life, the problem is that those things don't make money, they tend to cost money instead... :(
Oh to be as rich as the character Lara Croft.... ;)

Don't be too worried about what University you end up going to. I think they're all decent and will offer a good education if you take advantage of what's available to you.

It's OK if you don't know what to major in yet. The first year you can get some of the general requirements done with and spend that time thinking of what you really want to major in. It'll all basically work out in the end ;)

The best way to decide upon what you want to do in life is to focus on things that you like. If you like kids, be a teacher, if you like games, be a game developer, it isn't easy I know, and I will never be what I want to be because every other person in the world wants to be the same....an actress.

So, I want to be an architect as well because I love designing things. As long as you end up in a field that you want to be in. Don't settle for unhappiness. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

Oh to be as rich as the character Lara Croft.... ;) Exactly! Wouldn't it be grand if you did not have to worry about money and could actually do something you enjoy, solely because you enjoy it and not because of how much money you will make? If I could do that, I'd want to be a photographer or something... traveling everywhere and photographing everything! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif Archaeology would be sweet too!
Ah, the (new) American Dream.... http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/c-3.gif

Well some good feedback there folks, thanks for taking the time to post i appreciate it.

The thing is, i REALLY WANT TO BE A MODEL, but in reality thats not going to happen, but i love fashion, and art.

I dont know why i ever started a computer career, maybe its because thats were the MONEY IS. And as one of your said, if only you could do something without the money situation.

You could attend a technical school for Drafting. There is a Graphics Arts school here in Vegas, but dunno where one near you might be.

Hey Sparky http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif You sound like me last year... except not about the hooker part. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Do you have to decide now? Cant you have a year off (gap) so you can work and travel maybe and just get your head around things? Thats what I did because I had no idea what I wanted to do, and it kinda worked.

But even now, Im studying Psych/Arts and Im not sure if I want to do it. Im just getting a degree because.... just because.

I have no idea what I want to do tonight, let alone in 10 years. Dont worry about it. You dont have to have direction. Its ok to drift for a little while, as long as its not forever. Chin up. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/hug.gif

Hey Sparky!! Man you're only 18, you sounds like you still have some time to explore the world a bit further before you worry about your future. Why not take a year or two, work overseas somewhere while you travel?? Get some OE experience coz employers love that?? And at the same time take the time out and think what you really wanted to do??

I'm 22 and I had finished my degrees and guess what, I can't find a job in the related field and it kinda sucks coz some friends of mine all got jobs. But I ended up with a job that's totally different from what I'm studying but I can see myself combining my degrees and my current job and it's just a whole different experience waiting for me to explore.

It's important that you choose what you study, but don't be bound by it. Life has a way of sorting out itself, so you never know! Don't worry!! We all know how you feel. Most of us had been there before!!

Keep your chin up! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif
