View Full Version : Cheryl Cole and L'Oreal be upfront

Cheryl Cole's advertising campaign for L'Oreal has attracted a number of complaints.

Members of the public are contacting the Advertising Standards Authority because of the hair extensions that Cheryl wears to film the advert, saying that it's "misleading". Complaints have been rejected so far on the basis that the clip carries a warning saying that Cheryl is "styled with some natural extensions", but that's attracted more controversy after her own hairdresser confirmed that she actually uses the artificial fibre extensions to achieve her look.

Do you think these people have got their knickers in a twist over nothing???? Or should both Cheryl Cole and L'Oreal be upfront and say that the look just can't be achieved naturally???

This is ridiculous. Is she the first one with hair extensions to be featured in a hair ad? No. Doesn't every girl in mascara ad have false eyelashes? They do. So why make fuss of this?

This.

Seriously, I definitely like to keep up with what hair and makeup products are out there, but I honestly don't care that there are hair extensions, false eyelashes, etc in these, because I don't expect those exact results. Nor do I want to look like my lashes are 3 feet long, or that my hair has more reflection than a mirror. :vlol:

I don't mind if commercials exaggerate, but if people are going to bash one for doing so, they better bash a lot more of the other ones. :p

I'm surprised people haven't been complaining for other reasons - like her ridiculously annoying accent.

Which will then have you buying some nice concealing cream from them. ;)

Brilliant strategy. *applauds*

They've been doing this for years..I think just because of how famous Cheryl is, thats why its become so much of a big deal..but look at daz adverts for example...i dare you, go spill that red wine onto your favourite white dress and let daz do its magic..it doesn't work...same with mascaras and anti-wrinkle creams, they don't work to the extent that the adverts sya they do..photo-trickery etc is a thing thats used now.

I think false advertising should be banned altogether. Not that I even use half of the products anyway, but using extensions in hair adverts, lash extensions in mascara adverts and airbrushing in wrinkle adverts is just plain wrong. If youre gonna sell a product, either sell it for what it is, or dont sell it atall >_< Infact, screw it, ban smallprint.

The advert totally lied to me. I used all the L'Oreal products, but I never became Cheryl Cole. Why else would she be in the ad unless she's the final result?

Wow, shock horror. Cheryl Cole and that advert is being scapegoated and this kind of thing is nothing new in advertising.

A better question... should Cheryl Cole even BE on TV?

But really, it's not like this is the first commercial to have false advertising. All hair, makeup, anti-aging products do. I think people should be honest when selling a product, definitely, but if they're going to go after this specific ad, they need to go after the rest as well because the others are just as guilty.

How big is Cheryl "M Bison" Cole in the States? I thought she wasn't big enough here to be noticed there yet.

Exactly. It's stupid to assume that every glammed-up model on TV has REAL hair, REAL eyelashes and barely any make-up on, because that's just not the reality of it.

I don't even know who she is, I don't think she's that big in the US.

I hate L'Oreal and ALL other beauty product adverts. The statistic they show on the bottom of the screen make me think WHY is this even on?! Recently, I saw a Garnier ad and it said 65% of 180 women agree? Seriously, 65%?! 180 women?! What kind of lousy test are they running?! :hea:

Not sure what accent that is, but I have no idea what she said. I picked up a few things near the end but the beginning and middle was just gibberish to me.

Edit: oh, that`s some kind of English accent apparently.

urmmmm dont diss the geordie accent - im a geordie but funnily enough i talk more english than that. Bearing that in mind my friends and family talk like Cheryl. I live in Newcastle where her and Joe are from.

Dont diss the geordies k :cln:

EDIT: and half of the speech on the advert isnt even Cheryl, its been dubbed incase you can't distuniguish what shes saying.

She is :) Newcastle isnt big - its in the countryside - and yet 5 well known people from here!
-Cheryl Cole
-Joe from x factor
-Sir Bobby Robson

-Dec

Its so small theres a high liklihood i'll bump into the 4 still living :cln:

Yeah its just outside - easier to say Newcastle to people who arent familar with the towns and villages. I live in both Corbridge & Riding Mill which again, are just outside Newcastle; compared to other cities its tiny :)
