View Full Version : Tomb Raider book challenge 2010...

Anyone up for it?

The idea is simple..set yourself a goal (over 40, so it's interesting) of the amount of books you think you could read between January 1st 2010-January 1st 2011...then everytime you read a book you edit your post on the thread (it wouldn't be this one, this is just kinda to see if anyone would do it and to sign up) until you get to your goal.
It's a lot of fun...

So, if you're interesting, put your name here and I'll keep editing this post, because theres no point going ahead if it's just gonna be me :p

Books would have to be over 90 pages long
Comic books count if they are over 90 pages long
Reading a book twice counts AS LONG AS you've read stuff in between it

Takers so far

100

And that's no joke. I get seriously bored sometimes. That's probably less than I will read :p

Over 40 books in the coming year?! I don't read fast enough or often enough for that. I'll set my goal to 24. :p

CroftGameGirl
10-12-09, 20:48
Seems like a very cool and interesting idea, especially for all the readers here :D :tmb: However, I don't really like the rules =/ for me, a book is a book, no matter how long it is; at the end of the day, you've still read it, havn't you? And it is a book, right? It may not be a novel, but it's a book, which is what this thread is about, no? :P

Soz, i don't mean to ***** :o

Marianna12
10-12-09, 20:48
Does it count if we re-read some books we've already read?:p

But if we did that, there would be folk that got to a 100 first by reading books that are like 20 pages long with 3 words on them =P.

I would be willing to reduce the limit to 70?

Edit:
Yup-re-reads definately count! I plan re-reading the Twilight and HP sagas next year :)

touchthesky: Yes, good point. You should set it that we also record the title and author, that way, people can know if the book is longer or shorter, etc.

If you see what I mean.
I think it should be lowered to 60/70 :o

Aranara

I finished Clifford D Simak's All Flesh is Grass. Simak is supposed to be a giant of science fiction but I didn't think it was all that great. He ignored the golden rule of "show, don't tell" a lot. Then again, my dad informs be that it's not one of his better novels.

Either way, I read over half of it in the last few days of 2009, so I'm not going to count it toward my total.

I usually get in about 5 or so. I usually ending up watching movies instead.
(not to be confused of movies based on books, I'd usually rather read the book)

My serious goal is to finish the Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica series. It is SOOO GOOD, and thusly I must finish the 2nd and 3rd books!

I suggest everyone checking out the series. The first book is called Here, There Be Dragons. And it isn't some cheap fantasy novel either. I'd bet money it will be made into a movie one day.

Also, the Enchanted Forest Chronicles is always a safe read. It got me through my kid days without exploding. xD

8. Shadow Kiss - Richelle Mead
9. Blood Promise - Richelle Mead
10. The Art of Avatar - Lisa Fitzpatrick
11. Notes From My Travels (Visits with refugees in Africa, Cambodia, Pakistan and Ecuador) - Angelina Jolie
12. Britney: The Biography - Sean Smith

This sounds pretty interesting, but unfortunately I don't own many books, nor read a lot. :p

I should read more though, to expand my vocabulary. I should make it a New Year's resolution to read more books.

It took me 3 years to read one book, once.

You should read some classics:D
Or you should read the "A Series of Unfortunate Events" series :p I really enjoyed them :)) All 13 of them:D
Or Agatha Christie: "Murder on the Orient Express", "ABC Murders" or "And Then There Were None".

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/bf/TimeTravellersWife.jpg/200px-TimeTravellersWife.jpg
Title: The Time Traveler's Wife
Author: Audrey Niffenegger
Page Count: 518
Synopsis: It is a love story about a man with a genetic disorder that causes him to time travel unpredictably, and about his wife, an artist, who has to cope with his frequent absences and dangerous experiences. Niffenegger, frustrated in love when she began the work, wrote the story as a metaphor for her failed relationships. The tale's central relationship came to her suddenly and subsequently supplied the novel's title. The novel, which has been classified as both science fiction and romance, examines issues of love, loss, and free will. In particular, it uses time travel to explore miscommunication and distance in relationships, while also investigating deeper existential questions.
Rating:5/5 = Would [and will] read it over and over again.

It’s the heart of a sinister empire, built on the powers of the netherworld – werewolves, vampires, sorcerers, djinns. And Trey himself has a power that’s roaring to break free. Is he a boy or is he a beast?
