I'll start.
1. Translating from Romanian into English or vice-versa (I can't make grammatical mistakes because my sister got her certificate in Advanced English)
2. History

Well, We have to list Disadvantages of Smoking (Scientific ones!) such as heart disease, lung cancer, emphysema, etc. Technically speaking, of course it's a good idea, Smoking is one of the many causes (even if it's not listed) of Suicide and addiction.

Course, are you With or Against the topic?

How about listing some Advantages and Disadvantages of tourism in Majorca? :p

Wikipedia: The official languages of Majorca are Catalan and Spanish. The local dialect of Catalan is Mallorquí, even though the dialects are different in each island and in most villages. Typically, young Majorcans are bilingual in Catalan and Spanish, with some knowledge of English or German as a foreign language, especially due to the large number of tourists and foreign residents on the island.
This should be a disadvantage because Spanish people (from the continent) should be pretty confused about the language.
Oh, and you could use the information about the weather on Wikipedia to say that if you go in August there, you'll probably suffocate (especially now with global warming, the numbers n the chart should be way higher!!)

Here's that paragraph....

Also, people may get confused about the varying languages that the inhabitants of Majorca use. These languages include: Spanish, English, Catalan and German. This could cause some confusion due to the mix of languages. Many inhabitants of Majorca only learn these languages to cater for the flow of tourists that come to visit the island.

Nuclear power: Good:
Provides power
relatively cheap I think

Bad:
A bomb targeted at it would cause Nuclear fallout, meaning the death of enviroment around it
Not the safest

Smoking ban:

Pro:
-Health benefits
-More business(Less people put off by smokers in public places. It's kind of a weak point)
-New places such as smoking lounges set up(economic benefits)
-Discourages smoking
-Less air pollution(Enviromentap benefits)

Con
-Less sales for tobacco companies(Which contribute heavily to the economy)
-Loss of customers in bars,resteraunts,cafes
-Inhibits freedom(Its public places)
-Smokers end up damaging people they know more ad a result of them smoking at home

Not a link but "To Kill a Mockingbird" might be a great source if information.Despite it being a work of fiction it vividly illustrates the racism in society and social segregation during the 1930's, and it's set in Alabama which is on the banks of the Missisipi(as far as I know). It's short as well, so a good 3-4 hour reading session will get you through it.

what human things should i have to pick up - what would ariel collect

oC611KOqXVs
And the lyrics:
You think you own whatever land you land on
The Earth is just a dead thing you can claim
But I know every rock and tree and creature
Has a life, has a spirit, has a name

You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
You`ll learn things you never knew you never knew

Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grinned?
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountains?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?

Come run the hidden pine trails of the forest
Come taste the sunsweet berries of the Earth
Come roll in all the riches all around you
And for once, never wonder what they`re worth

The rainstorm and the river are my brothers
The heron and the otter are my friends
And we are all connected to each other
In a circle, in a hoop that never ends

How high will the sycamore grow?
If you cut it down, then you`ll never know
And you`ll never hear the wolf cry to the blue corn moon

For whether we are white or copper skinned
We need to sing with all the voices of the mountains
We need to paint with all the colors of the wind

You can own the Earth and still
All you`ll own is Earth until
You can paint with all the colors of the wind

Does my intro sound reasonable, guys? Have a read:

“Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry” is a book by Mildred D. Taylor about a young girl called Cassie who grows up in 1930s Mississippi and is to learn the bitter truth about the racism between the Blacks and the Whites. The story is related to Mildred’s past experience. I will be explaining what really happened in 1930s Mississippi through research and comparing it to Cassie’s world in “Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry”. Also, I’ll be looking at the transport of Blacks and Whites, how Blacks and Whites were treated and the condition of their resources at school, their daily activities and their protection under law and then a conclusion on what I’ve looked at. Each section I look at will have a minor comparison between the Whites and the Blacks and that will come to an overall comparison with the research in the conclusion.

This is for Dan:

Getting married in Majorca can be extremely complicated. In very simple terms, if one of the partners has lived legally in either Majorca or Spain for at least two years, then the civil marriage can be carried out at the local town hall, followed by a religious ceremony in church or other approved location. However, if neither of the partners fulfil the above residence requirements, then the civil marriage will have to take place in their country of residency, followed by a religious ceremony in church. In practical terms for UK citizens, this usually means a civil marriage taking place in the local registry office in the UK, which can then be followed by the religious ceremony on Majorca.

Nightlife here is often described as being vibrant, but don’t expect to find all night karaoke bars and foam parties, you’ll have to travel west into either Palma Nova or Magaluf if that’s what you are looking for. There is however, a good selection of clubs, restaurants and lively bars in the El Terreno district of the city, which visitors should also be aware is the centre of the islands gay and lesbian community, and some may find the area somewhat “seedy”.

Found this on a site, all about Palma, the capital of Majorca:D

Here is my transport section:

Transport in 1930s Mississippi was very different between the Whites and Blacks. White People would usually use a car to travel while the Blacks would have to walk or take a horse and cart. For school travels, Whites would take a bus to school while the Blacks had to walk, “Little Man turned around and watched saucer-eyed as a bus bore down on him spewing clouds of red dust like a huge yellow dragon breathing fire” (Ch.1, pg. 14), this shows that Blacks were treated unfairly by the Whites as they get a better type of transport. Another type of transport used by the Blacks was a wagon, “T.J. hopped into the back of the wagon beside Stacey and snuggled in a corner” (Ch.5, pg.79), this also shows that Blacks were used to the poor types of transport while the Whites were used to the easy and simple types like taking a car or bus. So, in comparison, White People had better transport than Black People who had transports like wagons and having to walk, while the Whites would take a car or bus.

Thank You. The "School" section will come soon. ;)

-------------------------------------------------------

School Section:

School in 1930s Mississippi was quite harsh for the black people, not because if the way they was treated, but because of resources that were given to them, “The blank lines continued down to Line 20 and I knew that they had all been reserved for black students” (Ch.1, pg.24), this means that the conditions of books that were very poor were given to the Black students while the White Students received books that ranged of condition from New to Poor. If this unfair treatment applies to this resource, it must apply to all the other resources handed out during school. Another unfair treatment which Black people suffered was that they were beaten by the teacher for declining to use a poorly conditioned book, “The switch landed hard upon Little Man’s upturned bottom….then she swung the switch five more times” (Ch.1, pg.24), so as I said, Little Man was beaten by “the switch” for refusing a book which was showing an act of racism towards them. Another act within school which was unfair was Mama getting fired by the men who entered her History lesson, ““you so smart I expect you’d best just forget about teaching altogether…then thataway you’ll have plenty of time to write your own book”” (Ch.8, pg.138), this act was unfair only because Mama taught the students, History from her book because she believed that the school book was wrong and so resulting in her getting relieved of her job. So, in comparison, Blacks were treated very unfairly at School and with the very poor conditioned resources they were given, while the Whites were given New-Poor conditioned books and treated fairly.

I've probably made some mistakes, if you find some, please point them out for me and I'll make some adjustments! ;)

The Daily Activites Section:

Once again, Daily Activites in 1930s Mississippi was different between the Black Community and the White Community. Some Black people owned farmland, “then climbed onto the next strong spike and reached for a fibrous puff at the top of a tall cotton stalk” (Ch.2, pg.29), to grow and then harvest their crops, ready to sell to earn money. While, some black people worked with white people in jobs like working on the railroad, but they again, were treated unfairly by the Whites, some even beaten up or gotten in trouble. White People usually worked for much better jobs like in a supermarket, a shop and managing a business. They were usually paid much more than what the Blacks earned. A white family called the “Wallaces” own a supermarket, “The Wallace store stood almost a half mile beyond Jefferson Davis” (Ch.4, pg.65), Black children were warned not to enter the store because the Wallaces were aggressive towards them. So, in comparison, the black community had poorer jobs which were more hard-working than what the White community had as a job, which they earned fair amounts of money from.

I'm now on 829 words. Just got the "Protection under law" and conclusion section to do and then I'll look at finding some research.

The "Protection under law" section:

Again, protection under law was different between the Whites and the Blacks. The Blacks were violated by the whites as the White Community supported violence against them. But Blacks used guns and other items as personal safety against racial attacks, ““That pearl-handed one. Stacey, man, you ever seen a gun like that…..One of these days I’m gonna have it”” (Ch.5, pg.83), so the Black Community want to protect themselves from the Whites. But, on the other hand, those of the blacks who can’t arm themselves or growing old in age mostly fall victim to racial attacks from the whites, ““He’s low sick all right-‘cause he got burnt near to death”” (Ch.1, pg.11), an example of Mr. Berry, a black man who was burnt to near death by White people as well as his two nephews and his house. So, in comparison, the Black Community have different levels of protection depending on how armed they are and who they live with, while the white community have the upper hand, treating them as slaves, burning them alive and performing lots of other racial attacks.

Some parts may sound vague, if so, please point out. I'm on 1,011 words now and have the Conclusion and Research left. ;)

Paragraph: Also, due to the immense amount of tourists, the amount of people in the cities such as Palma means that the cities can get very overcrowded. As more than half of Majorca’s rough population of 600,000 people already live in Palma, the addition of the many tens of thousands of tourists means that many of people’s first impressions of the Palma may be of its busy and very often crowded streets.

PARADISE LOST
What can be done to stop tourism destroying the object of it's affection? Maurice Chandler reports on the boom in the world travel.

On the sun-soaked Mediterranean island of Majorca, the locals are angry. Too late. In the last quarter of the twentieth century, they cashed in on foreign nationals, mainly Germans, wanting to buy up properly on their idyllic island. Suddenly it occurred to Majorcans that the island no longer belonged to them. They don't deny tourism's vital contribution to the local economy. The industry has transformed Majorca from one of the Spain's poorest parts to the richest in per capita income. But the island's 630,000 inhabitants are increasingly convinced that the 14 million foreign visitors a year are far too much of a good thing. Water is rationed, pollution is worsening, and there is no affordable housing left for them to buy.

The effects of tourism
To millions of tourists, foreign destinations are exotic paradises, unspoilt, idyllic, and full of local charm. But many of the world's resorts are struggling to cope with relentless waves of tourists, whose demands for ever more swimming pools and golf courses are sucking them dry.
"The issue is massive and global," says Tricia Marnett, director of Tourism Concern, a charity which campaigns for more responsible approaches to travel.
The problem is that tourists demand so much water. It has been calculated that a tourist in Spain uses up 880 liters of water a day, compared with 250 liters by a local. An 18-hole golf course in a dry country can consume so much water as a town of 10,000 people.

That's all about Majorca, it mentiones some other destinations then. If you need the source:

Paragraph:The heavy demands of tourists are also having an impact on Majorca. And, seeing as many as 14 million tourists a year visit Majorca, these demands are vastly amplified. Water is being rationed, pollution is consistently worsening, and there is not really any more affordable housing for the residents to buy. Some demands include swimming pools, which take up lots of water, and golf courses. An 18-hole golf course in a dry country can consume as much water as a town of 10,000 people. This means a lot of water is being used that could easily be put to another use, such as going towards poorer countries.

It is said that a major problem for the British was lack of ammunition and failings in the system of re-supply. It seems that this was not so for the 24th. However Durnford’s men on the extreme right flank did run out of ammunition and were forced to mount up and ride back into the camp, thereby leaving the British flank open.

sorry that i re-vived this but most people have a lot of homework in the easter holidays and so i think this will come in handy again :)

I for one need help with this for drama:

- you must now come up with ideas for a future performance for your company. First decide on your theme - Easter, or summer holidays.
-Next decide if you are going to use the same characters - and create a part two follow-on from the first show, or if you are going to create new characters (tip - it is probabaly easier to use the same characters!)
-Next you need to come up with an over-all storyline. You can either devise, or use a fairytale as inspiration.

The characters our children theatre performance were the tooth fairy, santa's elf, the easter bunny (me), a christmas turkey, santa,an evil witch and cameo appearances from goldilocks and alice in wonderland.

So :/ I'm a bit clueless! I'm bad at this sort of thing!

Compare and contrast the experimental method and the survey method in terms of their suitability for investigating the hypothesis that
frustration leads to aggressive behavior
In comparing and contrasting the two methods, be sure to identify and discuss each of the following.
A. Independent variable
B. Dependent variable
C. Control
D. Experimental and response bias
E. Ethical issues

Sure, basically you are asked to consider two types of research investigating the effect of frustration on behaviour (there you already have A and B). How would you design an empirical experiment? What would you ask on a survey? What are the advantages and disadvantages of both (relating to C, D and E)?

CiaKonwerski
20-09-10, 11:06
Okay, I understand it a little bit better. I was just confused because I am very new to the world of Psychology and I am not sure I will be able to fully understand it.

Punaxe
20-09-10, 11:10
Ah, but this is not so much about psychology as it is about research methodology. The same questions could be asked for virtually every kind of hypothesis.

Well, if it's an important exercise, you can post your answer here when you have it, for us to have a look at before you hand it in.

Love2Raid
20-09-10, 12:27
Like Punaxe said, what they want, is that you compare two ways how you could investigate the effect of frustration on behaviour:

Put ´test-objects´ (people) in a controlled setting and put them in a situation that causes frustration, then measure the effect on their behaviour. How you want to do this, is up to you.
Do a survey.

Now think of the differences in these approaches. How would you do this, which people would you pick as test objects? In the experimental setting: how would you ´cause´ frustration and what would you consider as a negative response and what as a positive response? In the survey setting: what questions are you going to ask and which responses do you consider as positive and which as negative?

What are the differences in the control you will have on the study in both aproaches (this is quite obvious)?

Bias: what could have an unwanted effect on your study outcome, so that the outcome doesn´t really reflect reality?

Ethical issues: well, I am sure you can think of some. ;)

I hope this helps. I am very interested in your essay. :)

Coincidentally, now I have a question. :D It's been a while since I had mathematics, so I need some refreshing...

Why is the antiderivative of e^-(x-4) -e-(x-4), and not just e^-(x-4) which I thought it was because (e^x)' = e^x?

EDIT: Ah, appears there was a rule missing from my cheatsheet: (e^(bx))' = 1/b(e^(bx)).

Alright need some help from you guys. Mainly my fellow American students. In my AP US History class we have this blog we must reply to every week for a major grade at the end of each grading period. Usually I have no problem answering it, but this particular question has me stuck. Think you guys could help? This is the question:

The Reconstruction (1865-1877) sought to rebuild the South and bring it back into the Union--after making certain changes, that is. President Lincoln said we should treat the South with kindness and help it become the place the nation hoped it could be. (Remember Lincoln's 10 Percent Plan?) However, after Lincoln's assassination, Radical Republicans eventually seized the reigns of government and sought to punish the South. During the Military Reconstruction, for instance, military rule was imposed over 10 former Confederate states to better recognize and protect the right of African Americans to vote. But despite witnessing the first African Americans serving in Congress, and despite the passage of the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments, the Reconstruction is often referred to as a "glorious failure".

In your opinion, was the Reconstruction a success or a failure, and why? You must choose a side and justify your reasoning. (In other words, back up your statement with supporting facts.)

I have no idea what to answer.... O_O And like all obvious answers to it have been taken and no credit is given for repeating an answer. HELP! D:

There are some snob exceptions on famous people I think or maybe because the surname is really odd. Lol

The first name is a chosen name, correct?

KC Mraz
07-03-12, 22:06
Yes, it is one or two given names and two surnames. If Bob Gonzales Perez has a child with Jessica Ramirez Hernandez, their son or daughter would be named [name] Gonzales Ramirez.

Of course there are always exceptions, some people have more than two names, some children only have both one parent's surnames instead (for example, kids of single parents), or a person might have the second surname of one parent and the first of the other (people sometimes choose to do this when both parents have the same first surname), but they're exceptions to the rule.

Well that was asked 10 days ago, I'm not sure if you still need help. I've been thinking about it though, and if the question is still relevant, I hope it could help a bit:

Cells have got dual phosphatide layers (of amphipathic molecules), that let only certain ions/molecules through the cell membrain. I don't think that works well after the death of a cell, so maybe then it hasn't got any protection anymore? With some research or more elaboration it could serve as a root for thoughts.
(Regarding ions, the sodium-potassium pump came to my mind, but that's a different thing. It does create electronegativity on the cell though, hmm...)

I need help guys!!!!!1111

I need some strong arguments/quotes that prove that Hamlet wasn't truly crazy, and that it was all an act.

Hamlet needs to kill the new king, knowing that he's actually a close relative to his family. He does to approve the marriage between his mother Gratitude and the king (I forgot his name). In same time he meets Ophelia and falls in love with her. But Hamlet knows that if he kill the king Ophelia won't love him anymore (because he's her father) and he'll be hounded or even worst, killed!
His plan is to act like crazy and kill the king and all the traitors of his father.
First he plans the theater play and hence to show the king the he knows who killed Hamlet's father.
Whenever his make a mistake or kill anyone or speaking stupid things (things bad about the king) everyone will think that he's crazy and he does not know what he is actually doing.
First he's killing the king then (as I remember) he throws the body in the river so no one will notice...but the king's son sees the murder (not sure :o) and starts to be against Hamlet and wants to kill him.
Hamlet finds that acting crazy will "save" him from every situation.
...hope it helps...about the quotes I don't have the book and I can't tell you.
