Anyone ever watch a tv show or movie and wonder how the hell youre meant to believe a certain actor is portraying someone of a certain age because they look so much older?

For example

John Conner
http://www.toplessrobot.com/johnconner_1.jpg

In Terminator 2 he is meant to be 10. He does not look 10 at all. Edward Furlong was nearly 15.

Danny zuko
http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu154/Pumpkintide/danny.jpg

He is meant to be a high school student?! Okaaay. John Travolta was 24 when he played this character.

Any more examples?

It's strange isn't? :p

When Veronica Mars was on the character was like 17 and Kristen Bell who played her was about 27 or something

Yeah it's like in teen show where the "17 year olds" are actually in their 20s.

Good old Dawson Casting! Its like in Buffy: all the "16" year old school mates look at least 25.

It does mean I get to plug Tv Tropes though:

When I was 30 people thought I was in my early 20s. :pi:

Edit: *sigh* and when I was in my 20's people thought I was a teenager. I hated that.

Just accept what they're telling you no matter how hard it is to believe and enjoy the movie. :ton:

Wasn't John Connor "13" in Terminator 2?

This is what really confused me about that movie. In T3, Connor mentions: "They tried to kill me before I was born. Then they tried again when I was 13".

I might be wrong, but that's what I remember.

Ralph Macchio who played the Karate Kid was actually 23. Hardly a kid huh? But he still looked younger than he was.

And what about Beverly Hills 90210? They were all supposed to be at high school, like 16 or 17 years old :vlol:

Pauley Perrette(NCIS) is not the youngster you think she is. She is over the hill at the age of 40!! We still love her. ^_^

This is what really confused me about that movie. In T3, Connor mentions: "They tried to kill me before I was born. Then they tried again when I was 13".

I might be wrong, but that's what I remember.

The Terminator time-line is all messed up, and the writers of T3 goofed up pretty bad.

'The Terminator' takes place in 1984. John is presumably born in 1985.
T2 was released in 1991 but takes place in 1995. He's ten. Judgement day is in two years time, 1997. Makes sense.

Jim Cameron leaves and writers who can't follow this fairly simple timeline come in and make it complicated. They retroactively make him 13 which means T2 must have been in 1998 - one year after they say Judgement day will happen in the film.

Or 1997 if the writers think he was born in '84.

But here's the other thing. The film is stated to take place in 2004, yes? John says they "blew up Skynet" OVER ten years ago, meaning that the writers of Terminator 3 think that the events of T2 take place in:

1994 or prior, 1997 or 1998.

None of which are right.

TSCC sticks with the 13 thing, saying that T2 takes place in 1997. The show begins with 15 year old John in 1999, moving forward in time to 2007 - where they say it's been ten years since T2.

Total mess.

I read it's mostly a legal issue. There are alot of technicalities with minors appearing on movies/tv.

lots of actors are paid to look young, I doubt a quarty of actors in T.V. shows are as young as they look.

Actually for some movies, a "vice versa" concept applies.

For instance:

In Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Lucas Black is supposably a 17 year old street racer.

If he is 17, then I am a Toddler.

In A Clockwork Orange, Malcolm McDowell (in his mid-twenties) plays a supposedly fifteen-year-old character. Surprisingly though, it never detracts from the film. And his performance was brilliant.

Wasn't that obvious, especially for the American audience? That 'teenagers' in TVs and movies are played by 20-somethings?...

I would think that probably is indeed due to restrictions upon minors regarding working hours.
