I like them all, except maybe the ones from Underworld. From the new ones I really liked Legend and Anniversary, Lara looks like Lara in them, Underworld not so much.

Something I would like them to do is to make a deal with some other companies to make Lara wear and use their clothing or vehicles. It would be nice if Eidos paired up with Jeep or that they would dress Lara with Nike, or others. :D Maybe those are not the perfect examples but I guess you can guess where I'm coming from. :p (No designer clothes though!:vlol:)

All of the promotional photos look well done from both Classic and CD eras. I didn't like the Legend model, because of all of the makeup, but it wasn't as terrible as you're letting on.

I like the old promotional pics because there were many, they were varied, and Lara always had the perfect facial expresions and poses (sometimes)

I do not really see much difference in their effect on me as a fan, newer ones have a more realistic looking Lara, and usually tend to be action shots rather than just Lara posing. I liked them all equally as well when they first came out, I just prefer the more recent ones because of the detail put into not only Lara, but her surroundings as well.

The best thing about the renders you posted is everything BUT Lara actually. If you took Lara out I think it would look way better. :)

I agree. To limit Lara to a few adverbs "fierce", "angry" and the ubiquitous "bada$$" is to make her boring. The question isn't whether Lara gets scared, feels tentative or playful, but under what circumstances she would feel so.

Frankly, I'd like to think Lara has more expressions in her arsenal than "Blue Steel". (points for the subreference)

That's not the only way they promote the game. Several different ways are used. Trailers, pics, interviews, previews, screenshots, demos...

I think I know which picture you are talking about, and I love it because it shows that Core's Lara did have a sentimental side. Everyone always criticize her as being a feeling-less person in the Core games, but in fact she did show a lot of emotion in some cutscenes from the classics.

^ I'm sure ten dozen fanboys have made similar renders. I don't consider this one tasteless. Nude does not equal slutty. It would be slutty if she were sprawled out on the bed, but this one's not horrible. She's covered and she's looking away from the camera/viewer.

The community at large has a problem with Lara as a sexual being (~zomg, she has to work alone, no romance, etc etc.), so it's definitely a bad idea for a promotional approach. Back in the 90/early 00s, these were actually successful campaigns. These days, people are more hyper-sensitive about image and prefer a more conservative, yet ~tough presentation.

Not true. I have no problems with Lara as a sexual being. I'm couldn't care less if has friends or dates, etc. However, I don't play the game to see Lara accomplish these acts.

My problem is with the assumption that if one is a Sexy Woman, one must appear sexy at all times, in all places regardless of whether or not it's appropriate or wise, and "Sexy" must always be defined as "skin revealing clothing." Such clothing is incongruous with the activity (i.e., the slit to there Japan dress,) and therefore annoys me.

However, promotional shots like the one above--those that provide that glimpse into Lara's life beyond the game--do not annoy me.
