View Full Version : My PS2 has finally died.

My PS2 has finally given up the ghost and died. :(

I knew it was going to happen as its been getting progressively worse over the last few months, with 'Disk Read Errors' becoming increasingly more and more frequent with each passing day.

I've tried everything I can think of to get it to work for just a little longer, but it's no good. Its gone. :(

I suppose I should thank my lucky stars though. It could of gone before I'd had a chance to play AOD.

Oh well... :(

Technology sucks huh?

Well, there is a way to fix the disk read errors. I had that too, so I used a CD cleaner and it works beautifully; however, if that doesn't work there is still a way to repair your PS2. Go to techtv.com and look up " PS2 Disk Read Error" and the instructions on how to fix it should show up. If you can't find the site just tell me and I'll see if I can find it for you. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

HI BunnyGirl http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Bad news about your PS2. Somehow I don't think that they made them to last because I've had mine about 2 years (when it came out) which isn't very long at all and I have a problem playing disc's with the blue backing on the bottom. I was going to get if fixed but have bought the silver one for my son for christmas instead. I can still play the silver disc's on it though. The silver PS2 is a much better machine apparently.
I think that the guarantee on them should have been for at least 3 years. :(
Are you going to get another PS2 BunnyGirl? http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Hey Melonie thanks for the that link. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif I'm not brave enough to try and fix it myself so I'll ask my other half. Cheers. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Thanks a lot for that link Melonie Tomb Raider http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/hug.gif

I had a bit of a job finding the post I needed though. So if anyone else has the same problem, use the 'search' putting in 'Playstation 2 Disc Read Error Fix' and its the first on the list.

It looks great. And because its written out in easy to follow steps, it doesn't look too difficult. It even has pictures to show you clearly what you have to do.

I'll try the CD cleaner option firstly, but if that doesn't work, I might just pluck up the courage and have a go with it myself.

P.S chocco...

Yes, I will get another PS2 if all else fails. I've only been without it for a few short hours, but I'm already suffering with redrawal symptoms.

Life without a Playstation2?... http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/yikes.gif

Doesn't bear thinking about, does it?

Hi BunnyGirl,

I hope you can fix your PS2! My TV is in hospital - probably the morgue by now. I'll know next week. It means that the PX, PS2, video and DVD player are all currently useless!

I've been online to check out prices for a new one.

Some cost well over 2000!

I may have to get one smaller than I had. Or rob a bank!

Sorry to hear of the immenent demise. A passing of such proportions brings sadness to all on the forum. Loss of a PS2 can only be out scoped by the death of a PC (thank God it wasn't that).

Sony designed the PS2 to die...

They purposely used substandard disc lasers...

Where's that from Draco?

Haven't had any problems with mine (thus far)

My PS1 lasted 4 years and was never off. My PS2 is younger but, so far, no probs. Like Annacia, I hate to see the demise of a true and trusted friend. I'll never forget the 'burial' of my old PS1 and the feelings evoked at it's lowering into the bin.....~sigh~ :(

Oh Tipp, The thought of it brings tears to my eyes. The emotion of it all!. it's just to much.

Wish me luck guys.

I think I might need it.

WAIT A SEC!!! my ps2 mag has a guide for disk errors!!!!
it says...
1. place your ps2 verticly if you havent already
2.load your ps2 without a disk in it an press triangle and then highlight console and press triangle again. det the diagnosis mode to 'on' (you will need to repeat this everytime you turn on the machine) and then place the disk in the tray.. this basicly focuses the lens

if this dont work find a qualified technition or call the ps2 technical hotline http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
