And you reminded me, my favorite film is between ROTJ & ROTS, but I lean towards ROTJ slightly.:p
It was between ROTS and ROTJ for me, that was always my favourite film as a kid because of all the Emperor goodness! :cln:

Jar Jar Binks, yay or nay? *shrugs* he served his purpose
Does George need to walk away? No. George IS Star Wars.
KOTOR 1 or 2? Number 2, for the Epic Classes
Dark side or light side? Both. One cannot exist without the other, neither is more powerful - they are yin and yang!
Was "The Clone Wars" a mistake? Hell no!
Jango or Boba? Boba. (note I have met Temuera Morrison and Daniel Logan)
Do you collect any SW memorabilia: A few figures here and there, never been a big collector myself - I have pics of myself with cast members however, and a few autographs (which I CANNOT FIND! I put them in a book to keep the pictures flat, and do you think I can find it?)

Dark side or light side? Both. One cannot exist without the other, neither is more powerful - they are yin and yang!
Was "The Clone Wars" a mistake? Hell no!
Yay! So why did you like The Clone Wars? And very good point about the dark side/light side.
I always enjoy anytime they do a fill-in between movies, plus if GL is involved it gives it a little more authenticity. Plus, there will be NO 7-9 - after all, the story is finished - but it's nice to have more to watch, and see what went on between films.
miss.haggard
16-02-10, 19:32
Yeah, I can see what you mean. I felt a little betrayed after watching it, seeing as I avoided all media and didn't know that it was a full on kids movie.
I really hope they are thinking about doing more movies, not necessarily 7+ because obviously thats not going to work out. But did you see that thread a few weeks back about George wanting to get into 3D with SW? That made me super happy that he is still thinking about expanding the films, unless of course he was talking about *sigh* another remake.
Thats what the 3D will be - remove of 1-6 in 3D.
7+ really can't happen, because the story is told. The bad guys are gone, the good guys are back. Everything else is EU
miss.haggard
16-02-10, 19:42
Yeah, but 7+ could also be the Thrawn trilogy. The only reason I dont see it happening is because of the age of the actors.
I don't know, I would love to see some EU stuff come into the movies. As long as its not Force Unleashed alternate universe crap. :o
Carbonek_0051
16-02-10, 19:44
As long as its not Force Unleashed alternate universe crap. :o
You know the Force Unleashed is considered canon right?:p
Thrawn Trilogy is considered the unnofficial contintuation.
George won't make 7+, as he said it takes 10 years out of his life at least to do three movies.
EU stuff will probably come up more in the live-action series, if it ever gets off the ground.
When The Old Republic comes out, I may lose any spare time I have
TFU is only considered C-canon, not G-canon :p

16-02-10, 19:45
Haven't watched any of the Star Wars movies, but I want to.
You know what ? am heading down to the DVDs store and getting them when I get the chance. :D
Carbonek_0051
16-02-10, 19:47
TFU is only considered C-canon, not G-canon :p
Erm, what? xD
Okay....
G-canon is absolute canon; the movies (their most recent release), the scripts, the novelizations of the movies, the radio plays, and any statements by George Lucas himself. G-canon overrides the lower levels of canon when there is a contradiction. Within G-canon, many fans follow an unofficial progression of canonicity where the movies are the highest canon, followed by the scripts, the novelizations, and then the radio plays.
T-canon refers to the canon level comprising only the two television shows: Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the Star Wars live-action TV series. Its precedence over C-Level canon was confirmed by Chee.[2]
C-canon is primarily composed of elements from the Expanded Universe including books, comics, and games bearing the label of Star Wars. Games and RPG sourcebooks are a special case; the stories and general background information are themselves fully C-canon, but the other elements such as character/item statistics and gameplay are, with few exceptions, N-canon.
S-canon is secondary canon; the story itself is considered non-continuity, but the non-contradicting elements are still a canon part of the Star Wars universe. This includes things like the online roleplaying game Star Wars: Galaxies and certain elements of a few N-canon stories.
N-canon is non-canon. "What-if" stories (such as stories published under the Star Wars: Infinities label), crossover appearances (such as the Star Wars character appearances in Soulcalibur IV), game statistics, and anything else directly contradicted by higher canon ends up here. N-canon is the only level that is not considered official canon by Lucasfilm. A significant amount of material that was previously C-canon was rendered N-canon by the release of Episodes I-III.

You know the Force Unleashed is considered canon right?:p
Not in my mind, I really hated how they messed with the time inbetween 3 and 4.
Carbonek_0051
16-02-10, 19:52
^I didn't remember them messing with anything, it all fit perfectly IMO.
@Dave: I remember hearing it was George himself who said TFU was canon with the film's storylines though.
miss.haggard
16-02-10, 19:53
Maybe I'm just a prude, but I just don't like it when they go back to already established storylines and add stuff such as TFU and TCW. You either go back in time, or head forward.
Carbonek_0051
16-02-10, 19:56
Meh, I liked it. Only because the story of TFU was 10X better than TPM & AotC.:p And you got to see the birth of the rebel alliance.:D
Yeah but its still not top level Canon!
I enjoyed the game, even with the unrealistic sword-style
i love Star Wars

I really need to go back and play KOTOR again. You know, I'm going to right now! Yay!
Both KOTOR games rocked, they really did, but after playing them through 3-4 times it gets too tedious, and I end up hacking my character stats and weapons and just blitzing through it.
Plus I have trouble playing the game as dark side, I always have trouble being mean and it's just a freakin game!
Carbonek_0051
16-02-10, 20:19

Well, unless George Lucas decides to define it, it will never happen. So, no worries there - I think he likes the mystery of it.

I'm with you. For me, the only things that are canon are what happened in the movies. Not the books, not the scripts, just the movies. The rest is interesting, but you really have to draw the line somewhere. Plus, it didn't make it into the movies for a reason.
Anything that was made to fill a market--the games, the TV shows, the novels, I consider fanfiction. Licensed fanfiction. It's primary purpose to to capitalize on the movies and make money. IMO, that lessens the product.
I don't care if it "agrees" or George says it's canon; I'm not impressed by stuff like that. Star Wars for me will always be six movies, the rest is stuff for sale.
Random Star Wars trivia: Lando Calrissian was not in the original one-sheet (http://www.cinemasterpieces.com/cinest54.jpg)for Empire. They painted him into the corner (http://www.cinemasterpieces.com/aapics09/esbdec09.jpg) after a first printing.

Ah, The Empire Strikes Back. Brilliant film. :tmb:
I really hope George restores the Unaltered Original Trilogy for the Blu-ray release and stops being an ass, but I guess it's not very likely.
What he should do is have it so you can choose between the two, it's not that difficult after all, then you have the choice.

I see (most of) the books as canon. There are some that do dabble into storylines that should be left alone, but the majority of them stay true to what the Star Wars universe is to me.
This is why they established the various levels of canon, and the higher levels always take precenence over the lower ones.
For example, the whole thing that Boba Fett was "Jaster Mereel" was made redundant with AotC's release
(Of course then they reconned the Jaster Mereel story to fit the true origins lol)
miss.haggard
16-02-10, 21:10
One thing that gets to me is whenever Star Wars is discussed whats canon and whats non canon is always a big part of the conversation. I understand the scale of things - that high takes place over lower - but I just think its better to take what you like and make it canon for yourself.
I don't know, maybe thats just me being weird, and I can see where in situations where the canon-scale comes in handy. I just think its better to ... make your own universe I guess! :p Its also more fun!
Well to be honest, with the movies now finished, it doesn't really make a difference what is canon and what isn't. Let's just discuss Star Wars as is :D
Lets just enjoy what we have now :D
I just installed Jedi Academy, patched it, and modded the .CFG to get widescreen.
I'm going to be busy today :D
Laney, one day can we meet up and talk Star Wars?

ive never watched Star Wars, except for 20 minutes of the first one, and 5 minutes of the forth one.
but i love KOTOR and KOTOR 2. the 2nd game was much better, and is one of my favorite games; ive beaten it 6 times.
The KoToR games were magnificent.
I had the first one for Xbox, and I used to rush home every night after training to play it, and frequently I'd glance at the clock and find it was 4am and I'd have to get up at 8 to go to work!
@ Laney: I'm sure Leo and I could get along, we could bond over Star Wars and discussing you :D

That'd be nice.
BTW, the Han/Leia pose on the A style sheet is not the only GWTW reference for Empire. There's actual Rhett/Scarlett dialog that made it into the film.
This scene takes place in Atlanta when Scarlett was staying at Aunt Pittypat's:
"Scarlett, you do like me, don't you?"
"Well, sometimes," she answered cautiously. "When you aren't acting like a varmint."
He laughed again and held the palm of her hand against his hard cheek. "I think you like me because I am a varmint. You've known so few dyed-in-the-wool varmints in your sheltered life that my very difference holds a quaint charm for you."
"That's not true! I like nice men--"
Sound familiar? :D I had read GWTW a long time before Ep. V was ever released. I discovered that passage upon rereading the book after the movie came out. To my knowledge, I'm the only one whose ever found it.
And now you all know! :jmp:
I'm pretty sure you aren't the only person ever to pick up that referene

What do you guys think about all the influences George has taken from other stories and history? I was watching a History Channel thing awhile back about his connections to biblical stories, World Wars, and other media. I found this great article (http://cineleet.com/2008/05/22/before-the-galaxy-far-far-away/), a good read :)
I like how GL gives nods to a lot of other movies, shows respect to those that came before him.
This (http://www.nerf-herders-anonymous.net/ReverseReferences.html) is also an interesting read - reverse references.

Oh! That is interesting, thank you! I agree as well that I really like that he takes reference from other movies.

He did that a lot with Raiders of the Lost Ark, too. The entire opening sequence can almost be reproduced shot-for-shot with clips from old serials.
I LOVE Star Wars. It's one of my favourite story-sagas of all time.
What is your favorite movie? Hard to choose between ep. III and ep. VI
Favorite character? Anakin Skywalker from ep. III, hands down.
Favorite line? Oh there are too many, lol. "May the force be with you"?
Favorite musical score? Don't really know, I love the whole soundtrack.
Do you read the books? Nope. I've read some in the past though.
Jar Jar Binks, yay or nay? Jar Jar Binks is LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
Does George need to walk away? No.
KOTOR 1 or 2? Never played them.
Dark side or light side? Light side lol. I'm a hippy.
Was "The Clone Wars" a mistake? Absolutely not. However, it is probably my least favourite episode. That doesn't mean it's not awesome, though.
Jango or Boba? They both suck, lol.
Do you collect any SW memorabilia? I have a collectors' items book.

Wasn't a big fan of them in the movies. :D I considered them minor characters. :) Didn't think too big of them.
This thread makes me want to watch Star Wars again, all episodes.
Okay, here's a question for you all:
If you had someone who had never watched a Star Wars movie, what order would you recommend they watch them in?
The order they were released in (4-6, then 1-3) or 1-6.
I favour the order they were released in; there's think in 1-3 you wouldn't understand if you hadn't seen 4-6.
Thoughts?

Jango definitely wasn't minor... I mean technically he was the entire Clone Army. But I can see where you are coming from with Boba. If you were ever to read the books though, I'm positive your opinion of him would change! :p

Most people I would say 1-6, easier to understand and more "mainstream." People I care about - AKA my future little Padawans - will be watching them 4-6/1-3, get them started off right!

I love Star Wars! I'm surprised I haven't posted here earlier. I'll gladly fill the survey out!
What is your favorite movie? Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
Favorite character? C-3PO
Favorite line? "We seem to be made to suffer. It's our lot in life!"
Favorite musical score? Across the Stars or Princess Leia's Theme. Yoda's theme is good too.
Do you read the books? Couldn't get past the first few pages of the Zahn trilogy. Read some comics, though.
Jar Jar Binks, yay or nay? Nay. 'nuff said
Does George need to walk away? Yes. At least for a while
KOTOR 1 or 2? Haven't played either
Dark side or light side? Light side. Go Jedi!
Was "The Clone Wars" a mistake? Ahsoka Tano was.
Jango or Boba? Boba
Do you collect any SW memorabilia? Action figures and a life-sized Yoda statue!

What is your favorite movie?
Shoot me down with your wookie bowcaster, but my favourite SW movie was Episode I. My brother and his ex girlfriend took us, the kiddies, to see the movie 11 years ago, and after then i got stuck to the trilogy, but that wasn't my first SW experience.
Favorite character?
Hard to tell, really... It should be Han Solo from the first trilogy, and Obi-Wan from the latest one, but R2-D2 was in all of them, so i'll pick that metal buddy :p.
Favorite line?
May the force be with you...
Favorite musical score?
I can't recall, but the dramatic tune played during the invasion of Naboo is probably my favourite (from the movies).
Do you read the books?
There are books? J/K... But haven't checked any of them, but thanks to the internets i know who Mara Jade is.
Jar Jar Binks, yay or nay?
Nay. He was decent in one of the latest movies (where he was more mature), but on the Episode I it was annoying, and i used to kill him on the PC game anytime i got tired of playing :p.
Does George need to walk away?
I don't think so, but the trilogies are fine as they're. He could develop the later histories, in that case, i wish him luck.
KOTOR 1 or 2?
Played one of them on the first Xbox, and didn't advance any further.
Dark side or light side?
As in Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, there's a stage where your Jedi is not a master yet, but you can use powers from both sides. I'd probably like to have more variety in my abilities.
Was "The Clone Wars" a mistake?
The cartoon? Dunno, but don't think so either.
Jango or Boba?
The green one :D.
Do you collect any SW memorabilia?
I used to have Greedo, Admiral Ackbar, and a Gamorrean... Along with many happy meal toys, but they're long gone.

Why Star Wars Characters Would Kick Ass In The Star Trek Universe
10) In the Star Wars universe, weapons rarely, if ever, set on "stun."
9) The Enterprise needs a huge engine room with an anti-matter unit and
a crew of twenty just to go into warp--the Millennium Falcon does the
same thing with R2-D2 and a Wookie.
8) After resisting the Imperial torture droid and Darth Vader, Princess
Leia still looked fresh and desirable--after pithy Cardassian starvation
torture, Picard looked like hell.
7) One word: lightsabers.
6) Darth Vader could choke the entire Borg empire with one glance.
5) The Death Star doesn't care if a world is class "M" or not.
4) Luke Skywalker not obsessed with sleeping with every alien he
encounters.
3) Jabba the Hutt would eat Harry Mudd for trying to cut in on his
action.
2) The Federation would have to attempt to liberate any ship named Slave
I.
1) Picard pilots Enterprise through asteroid belt at one-quarter impulse
power. Han Solo floors it.

I love Star Wars, well now I'm not that big fan when I was before, but still I love the idea how George Lucas made the universe.
What is your favorite movie? I can't decide between first trilogy and Return of the Jedi
Favorite character? Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker
Favorite line? Luke I'm your...... nah I'm just kidding.:p
Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering. - Yoda
or
General Grievous... you're shorter than I expected. - Anakin Skywalker
Favorite musical score? Dual of the Fates, Battle of the Heroes and The Force.

Favorite musical score? The piece that's playing at the very end of Empire Strikes Back.
Do you read the books? No.
Jar Jar Binks, yay or nay? Big Ole' NAY!
Does George need to walk away? Yes... his ideas may be great but his writing (particularly for anything that isn't a fight scene) needs a lot of work. Plus his heavy-handed treatment of the fans regarding access to buying the films WE want to see on the format WE want stinks. He gives only what HE wants when HE wants it... and takes his time doing it. I should be watching the original, unaltered, versions of all the films on Blu Ray by now.
KOTOR 1 or 2? Played 1... so 1.
Dark side or light side? I'd be the Light side; but I still think the dark side is cool!
Was "The Clone Wars" a mistake? I'm not interested in it, so, yes.
Jango or Boba? Never cared for them the way others do. Incredible how people obssessed so much about a glorified extra (didn't know Jango had any following, though).
Do you collect any SW memorabilia? Not really.
Favourite Star Wars Game? Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2 -- Gamecube. I also love the Lego Star Wars games.
First Star Wars Game? Probably one of the ones on the Atari 2600... can't remember exactly.
Favourite lightsaber color? Red.

I'm not even sure that you can buy the unaltered widescreen versions of the original trilogy on DVD. I know you couldn't several years ago, so me and my wife broke down and bought the "enhanced" ones. Some "enhancements" aren't bad but others are blah... To make matters worse he later released the unaltered versions--but only in Pan & Scan!!! Talk about ridiculous... it was like a literal slap in the face.
NOTE: These situations may have changed by now; I don't know what's been released in the last year or so, but I'm now waiting for a Blu Ray release. I can't wait to see how he handles that!

Yeah, but him shooting first means Han Solo don't give a **** about the rules. Which he don't, gurlfran.
He wouldn't be Han Solo if he did
It was kill or be killed - he did the right thing
He should have left it that way, not the silly dodge to the left bad CGI they did later
Ah, i forgot to reply my own questions :p.
Favourite Star Wars Game?
Hard to tell. The one i replay the most is Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, because it still works in many system, and it was the first one i played. It's also a huge game, with many innovative features similar to those of a Tomb Raider game. I played it in the late 90's along with TRII, but i finished it a couple of years later, still an amazing game after all these years :tmb:
Then i played Rogue Squadron on the 64, but i liked the PC version better. From the same trend, i played Battle for Naboo (PC) and SW Racers, liked Naboo one better, because the races became tedious, and also because i like the Naboo Starfighter (anyone got the patch to play it in Rogue Squadron :D?). There also was Episode II for PC, probably the last PC game i had of Star Wars, i was gifted Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast by Christmas, but my PC couldn't handle it, so i had to wait for my first Xbox to play it (rebuying the game for the console), and loved it totally. There also was Jedi Academy and Clone Wars, i finnished Clone Wars, and it saddens me the 360 is not compatible with it. And what about Battlefront II? Absolute win.
First Star Wars Game?
Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II is the one i can track to my childhood. I never played Dark Forces I, and if i told u that i did, i lied :ton:.
Favourite lightsaber color?
Red one FTW, although when playing Jedi Knight multiplayer with my brother, i'd pick the color that matches my character (green if Fett, blue if a Stormtrooper, etc).
First SW experience?
I saw the first trilogy on VHS when i was like 4 or 5. But the games were the ones that sucked me into it. I might not be the best fan ever, but i like SW, and that's what matters.

But the Sarlacc could never hold Fett. After conversing with a fellow captive, the Choi known as Susejo, Fett discovered that this being was actually psychologically connected to the Sarlacc—and it was this advantage that he used to goad the creature into contracting around his jet pack, igniting the device and providing his means of escape. The resulting explosion, combined with the beast's acidic stomach juices, left Fett on the verge of death. As he lay dying on the surface of Tatooine, his colleague Dengar was searching for anything valuable left from the explosion, but found Boba Fett instead, and nursed him back to health.
Boba Fett (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Boba_fett), just another word for badass.
Dave - I agree that some books should never have been written, but thats why I think each person should decide for themselves whats canon and whats not. I love Star Wars, I don't want to believe that it ended with the release of ROTS, so thats why I read the books. I love the universe, I love the mythology, I love the characters... I don't want it to end! :p

Okay, your thoughts on Mara Jade and Luke marrying?

The books might be good reading but I treat only the original source as canon. In this case, the movies. It's why I also avoid the Buffy season 8 comics... if it wasn't filmed then it's not season 8. To me, anyway.

Exactly, he was a freaking genius. Luke and Mara? Meh... Its a little cliche, but I like the symbolism in it, not to mention Mara Jade is awesome. So I don't see it as a bad thing.
I have a friend who still argues that you can see Mara in RotJ.........

 I'd like to believe you could, but I've scoured that scene and didn't see crap.
But you totally do see the Millennium Falcon (or atleast a YT-1300) in AotC. The book about the ship is fairly interesting, but slow as well. And probably not canon :p
Oh but who cares about canon ...... ;)
Of course you can't see Mara, she wasn't invented until what, 1991?
Yes, that was the Falcon, it's mentioned somewhere it was deliberately left in. I wish they'd slipped a young Han solo into 1-3 somewhere, just as an in-joke or something. After all, Greedo made it (albeit in a deleted scene)

I know right? Naboo is like 40 gajillion times better than Earth.
My favourite SW movies are Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Sith. I think these two movies are great because they're also the darkest, and I think George Lucas never seems to have realized how much better his storytelling gets when things are darker and more serious. Revenge of the Sith surprised me a lot, because the social/political commentary on it is amazing.
I think the worst movie was Attack of the Clones precisely because it's Lucas trying to write a romantic movie (basically) and he clearly sucks at it. :(
Oh yeah, the survey. :D
What is your favorite movie?
Like I said, Episodes V and III
Favorite character?
Darth Vader and Obi Wan Kenobi
Favorite line?
"The circle is now complete. When I left you, I was but the learner, now I am the master."
"So this is how democracy dies, with thunderous aplause"
"Do, or do not; there is no try"
"Only a Sith deals in absolutes"
Favorite musical score?
Episode I
Do you read the books?
Only read The Phantom Menace.. :pi:
Jar Jar Binks, yay or nay?
Meh. Don't like him but don't hate him either.
Does George need to walk away?
Of course not.
KOTOR 1 or 2?
Never played it.
Dark side or light side?
Sith are cool but Jedi are awesome.
Was "The Clone Wars" a mistake?
Never watched it but I think that Lucas has the right to do whatever he wants with the universe he created himself.
Jango or Boba?
Boba
Do you collect any SW memorabilia?
Nope
Favourite Star Wars Game?
Jedi Academy
First Star Wars Game?
Episode 1 Racer
Favourite lightsaber color?
Purple :D
First SW experience?
The first movie I watched was The Phantom Menace. I had never watched any of the movies prior to that one. But I'm sure when I was little I must have had contact with it one way or another (toys etc), I just don't remember.
