Hi everyone http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

I cleaned out my fish tank yesterday, and I took out the plant that covers the bowl, it is a betta fish, and the plant was yucky so I left it out and was going to buy a new one today. Well anyway, I went to Sam's for the night and when I came back this morning, my fish Ozkar was not in his bowl  So I am like where is my friken fish?? He was on the floor, and still alive  I thought for sure I would have to flush him, he is moving around a bit and his color is off, just wondering if I should call a fish doctor or just keep an eye on him?

My poor little Oz :(

Hi Kasia! Looks like you've quite a little battler there. I suspect that it's back in it's bowl and no harm done? Lucky fish! Might want to cover the top with some mesh to prevent similar happening again. Might not be so lucky next time.

Hi Kasia,

Bettas are Labyrinth (air-breathing) fish so they can survive out of water longer than a normal fish. Usually when a fish jumps out of a tank it's because of poor water conditions. That is probably the case here. Decaying/dying plants really can foul up the water.

Just make sure you do normal weekly water changes (about 25-30%) & make sure you use water conditioner/chlorine remover to make sure the water is fine for your fish. Also, it might be a good idea to not put a plant in the bowl or you may have a repeat of what happened.

Good luck!
