View Full Version : will GOL be 1080p compatible?
TRU on PS3 wasn't 1080p compatible, but I heard the 360 version was? I would love to see GOL be 1080p compatible on the PS3 :D
TRU on 360 `upscaled` as all games on 360 do, on PS3 it doesnt do the upscaling by default.
Its very rare to find a `true` 1080p game, even now.. Most games use 720p as base resolution
Even Uncharted 2 made by a Sony owned company is only 720p.
1080p is not possible for a big game like Uncharted 2, GOWIII... in fact GOWIII was supposed to be 1080p but they were not able to accomplish it.
The only 1080p games you find on PS3 are downloadables like Wipeout HD (which looks like an upscaled PS2 game) or GT5 which is actually not full 1080p and is a racing game so they reuse alot of textures which allows higher resolutions.
Since GOL is running on the Underworld engine I don't see it happening unfortunately.

Or buy a PC and get real 1080p or more as u like :)

nah, not gonna spend thousands of dollars :)
And running low res textures in HD is hardly going to look that fantastic, so GOL is not likely to look that better at 1080 resolution on a PC.

You don't need to spend thousands of dollars to get a good gaming PC.

The graphics look similar to Underworld, but still a little downgraded. That would be awesome of it could be 1080p. I don't think I've seen a game in that resolution on my ps3 YET!

Yeh for desktops it's quite cheap, but for laptops it can be pricey :)

You do around here, if you want a decent PC that is not going to be outdated already in a few years. Not everyone has the ability to build their own.

^ Just buy it from Dell, they make it super easy to get a gaming PC, and super cheap too. :D
Anyways...I am assuming that it will probably let you play at higher res because it's not an overly demanding game like Uncharted. The graphics are just ok, so I'm assuming it could eventually do it. It will all have to do on how well CD ports it to the PS3, which is usually pretty bad (they are better with the Xbox360 version), so I wouldn't hold my breath. :(
It's like a 50-50 situation. :o
^ I thought Dell only did PC's with ****ty Intel graphics cards?

WipeoutHD was a beautiful game!
Many 1080p games look awful though, like Pirates of the Carribbean, and some of the best looking games this gen run subHD. It's a shame the consoles can't really manage a smooth, 1080p with good graphics, but it doesn't really matter, I'd take 560p over a horrible frame rate.
720p still looks great from 3+ metres away, it's more of an issue on PC's imo.

No if they are gaming PCs. They sold me mine with an Nvidia video card. :)

Ah right, didn't know they also did gaming ones to :)
^ Yes, such as Dell XPS or Dell Studio...... but I just had to get the bad inspiron -_-. GOL's native res will be either 720p, or lower and just upscaled to 720p.
nah, not gonna spend thousands of dollars :)
You will, bying all those expensive console games :)

I get most of my games pre-owned, they're usually 20-30 dollars ;)

Assassins Creed 2 and Bayonetta could run at 1080p and they looked amazing :D

I got the Dell XPS. It's a very good computer, worth every penny. :D

Not in the PS3 :whi:

I think ACII might have been pure 1080p, or had some content such as pre-rendered movies in 1080p. Bayonetta is 720p upscaled.
I play all my games in SD so it doesn't matter much to me :o
. Bayonetta is 720p upscaled.
and it still looks great :D

The only game that's 1080P by default and looks amazing is MGS4. :D

Decent PC's are not super cheap in Australia, a Dell Studio XPS 9000 box only would cost 1,699, from the Dell store. Dell PC's might be nice but a spare 2,500 for an entire PC I do not have. A friend brought a budget priced Dell for 1,600 a while back, cheap is what she got you could not put a graphics card in it. Consoles are far cheaper, even the PS3.

I believe MGS4 is sub-HD and upscaled to 1080p.
Anyway they still look great.
But a true 1080p game would look simple eye-popping.

That's true, that's why you can do far less with them. ;)
Well consoles are soley for gaming anyway.
TRU on 360 `upscaled` as all games on 360 do, on PS3 it doesnt do the upscaling by default.Speaking of 360, how about 720p?
I admit TRU looked great on my 1680x1050 screen and I would not know it was subHD (same for Conviction, the game looks pretty good). That said GoL is using different camera and the image quality would be probably more of an issue.
Its very rare to find a `true` 1080p game, even now.. Most games use 720p as base resolutionWell, there was Sacred 2. Not some graphical marvel, but 1080p, decent framerate, many enemies on screen and large open world with only occasional streaming problems.
My flatscreen is only 780p.. guess I won't have to worry. :vlol:
Dont you mean "720p" There is no HDTV with a res of 1280x780 o.0
Erm.. yep! That's what I meant. :vlol:

I am thinking of hooking up my 360 to my computer screen, what cables would I need? And the screen does have a DVI and VGA port. :)
(asking here because it is about resolutions, so I though, hey, why not here)
I hope it looks as great as TRU did on my HD tv! :D

You need the Xbox 360 VGA cables.
You do around here, if you want a decent PC that is not going to be outdated already in a few years. Not everyone has the ability to build their own.
You don't need to have a degree in engineering to build a gaming pc. It's like lego bricks putting them together and all you need to do in regards to matching the parts is to read the specifications of the motherboard and match every other item to what fits with the requirements ... simples! :ton:

I do not have a port on my screen for those cables though.

You said the screen had a VGA port, most modern LCD monitors do. I had mine connected that way for ages before I brought a HD TV.

No it is not going to look as good as TRU, it is just an arcade game with much lower resolution textures. So you are usually going to be looking at things from a lot further away.

I meant VGA as in the computer version of VGA, video card cable one.

Your other option is HDMI to DVI (it does not require HDCP), but thats bit more complicated thanks to Microsoft being dicks and putting the HDMI connector too close to the A/V connector - you current cables probably wont fit if you use HDMI.
The way to go with gaming pcs is to buy the parts and put them together yourself. That way you will save lots of money, get good parts, and it is not even difficult anymore. 10 years or so ago, some stuff could be tricky, but nowadays, even the coolers are manufactured with ease of installation in mind. Just do yourself a favor and don't try to save money with coolers, memory and the power supply. You won't need the newest graphics adapter and cpu, though. A generation behind or this generation's "cheap" variants will serve 99.9% of users such as well and cost maybe half the high-priced stuff.
