LARA CROFT: LETHAL AND LOADED

Eidos Interactive and Core Design announce the Official Lara Croft Documentary: a one-hour television programme that examines the unique phenomenon of Lara Croft, revealing how she was invented, developed and launched into mainstream contemporary culture to become the most successful cyber character to crossover into global marketing, advertising and ultimately Hollywood.

For the first time, the 'real' story of Lara Croft is told - Lara's original creator details her design process and Core Design's conceptual artists illustrate her development over the following years, including a preview of the 'next-generation' Lara Croft 3D Model. The team reveals the truths behind Lara's personal history and how it was established and further developed following the public's thirst for knowledge about her.

Lara Croft's personality and physique are put under scrutiny as Lethal and Loaded investigates the unprecedented obsessive behaviour and emotional reaction that she stirs in fans from all walks of life.

The programme also goes behind-the-scenes to show how the official Lara Croft look-alike models are selected and trained - and what they really think of the woman whose boots they have stepped into.

Lara's prominence as a modern cultural icon is examined and her mainstream media status is illustrated via press articles, product endorsements, celebrity appearances and finally clips from Paramount's Tomb Raider movie, including an interview with its Oscar-winning star, Angelina Jolie.

They sell it in Poundland (UK store) as a bundle with some Nicole Kidman film, it's a quite good documentary. :)

Yeah it is a good documentary, I've watched it many times.

Although I was taken aback by the showing of superimposed breasts on Lara Croft pictures!

I also found the addiction stories quite interesting and the woman who bought all of Lara's outfits.

The DVD packaging did look very unprofessional though...

Doesn't ring any bells haha. Is there a woman on it who comments on Lara's "huge chest"?

That part sticks out because I was watching this with my mother and she flipped when this was said.

Yeah I had it on DVD, came with something.. I think it was a bonus DVD that came with AOD since I pre-ordered it like freaking 3 years before it came out lmao. It's really dated, but I like watching the old classic stuff again :)

Core Design doesn't exist anymore, but Eidos/Square Enix might have the rights to the video.. but this many years down the line it's hard to tell.

I'm watching it right now. So cool that they used really memorable parts of music from the games in it.

And I also noticed that Toby Gard didn't mention what his first idea was and then Jeremy Heath Smith says: "Wow, that's a big change!"
Pretty funny. :p

(Or did I miss something?)

MattTR
19-05-10, 00:00
Why is Toby Gard even in this? He left even before TR2 was released.. :whi:

Love2Raid
19-05-10, 00:07
Well, he did come up with a female character and her look, so yeah, what started it all. But I think that some people give him way too much credit.

Anyway, I have reached a hilarious part now. :p

MattTR
19-05-10, 00:09
I know, I know.. I was semi-kidding.. :vlol:

I agree with you though that some people give him way too much credit.. I wonder when this documentary was made? It was interesting he came back to do it, but why not? An extra buck. :ton:

I don't know. Probably some time during Legend's development maybe?

Oh god, they have actually interviewed a lady from a lingerie shop. "Lara would need a bra with good support."

:rolleyes::vlol:

Found this in a pound shop a few years back and bought it on the spot.

There are two covers I think, one's green and has Lara in the jungle on the cover, and one's black with Lara standing with a gun, the one I have.

It's a really good documentary actually, I thought it was going to be a bit rubbish.

excuse me but if it wasn't for Toby Gard THERE WOULD BE NO LARA CROFT/TOMB RAIDER!!!

thats why he is very much credited. and im upset he left?! and i want to know why. maybe TR would be different right now? maybe better then where its at??? who knows.

I saw it when it was first shown on TV, back when AoD was still in development [/nostalgia moment]. It's rather good and doesn't take itself too seriously - something I've always loved about Tomb Raider in general :D

yeah this video was kind of more about people and their obsessions more then about lara croft and how she came about -__- i wanted them to actually talk about development and each video game. they only did briefly.
