I think I should have a little fun.

I am going to visit my family (grandparents, uncles, cousins) in England next week, I will be the first there, my parents fly in two days later....

Some of my English family members take worrying to new levels. They won't drive if it's raining, if there could be other cars out on the road, that sort of thing.

Should I play an April Fools sort joke, just for them?

I remember once I told my grandmother a whole pack of lies (as a joke) when she asked about a trip we (brother, sister and myself) had taken to take my dogs to the vets in another province. I advised her that our car had broken down, that we'd hitched a ride with a pack of Hell's Angels, and even though they didn't have helmets for us, it was okay because they were really tough. They put the dogs in a sidecar. And they took us to get tattoos, too. We stayed up all night partying with them, and then they brought us home. My grandmother bought it hook, line, and sinker. "OH MY GOSH! OH MY GOSH!! OH MY GOSH!!!"....

I don't know how many times I had to say, "Grandmummy, it's a JOKE. A JOKE. Our car is fine. No, we didn't really hitch rides with Hell's Angels. No, we didn't even see any motorcyclists. No, the dogs didn't ride in a sidecar. They rode home in our car, Grandmummy. IT WAS A JOKE!"

It took a bit of the shine off the joke to have to explain it right away, but otherwise the story would have been all over Slough (UK) and half of Canada in less than ten minutes. She's fast.

They will ask when I arrive about the rest of the family, specially those tailored to the worrying types in the group. So here is my story..."George was sentenced to six months in prison, but we're relieved to announce that his sentence was reduced to time served plus probation. Trista lost her job at the station, but she's still pulling her fair share by running a one-person escort service down in the south side projects. She's making more money than ever! Now if only she could stop her crack habit, mum and dad will be able to get the electricity turned back on. Wow, what a year!"

Whaddya think? Would my grandmother get a laugh, or would she have a heart attack? I adore my grandmother, but she DOES need to lighten up a bit...hehehe!

Golly I'm bored. Thinking up tricks to play on my grandmother. That's just plain sad.

I think your grandmother will have a heart attack. If she survived from the first joke, I don't think she will now. I love my grandmother so much, and I wouldn't like seeing her staring at me, being ready to say "I'm losing my light" http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Seriously now, depends on her character (if she can stand a joke like this). Although I think that this "prison" is a bit exaggerated.

Well, depends on how you are going to tell her... When my grannie was in life, me and my sister always had fun with her - when she asked "Where are you going?" we would answer "We are off to rob some banks" :D At first she would look suspiciously at us, but after a few times, she got used to it and just laughed :D

I loved my grannie so much :(

if you want to say something not so bad just say that your parents were comingwith you but they got stuck in customs as their stuff was too heavy, so they needed to go home to repack and would leve 2 days later

Trista lost her job at the station, but she's still pulling her fair share by running a one-person escort service down in the south side projects. She's making more money than ever! Aww, poor Trista. I hope that escort service works out for her!

Really, now? I think your grandma would die if you told her that.
