I dunno if I'd do it off ebay. If you seriously want to sell your photography as art copyright the images and then submit them to various publications or agencies. Then you can be paid for the rights to use your images (that's how photographers make money). Enter them into contests and such as well. Get your name out there!

Ebay and deviantart would be your best bet. You can also see if any art stores would buy your stuff from ya.

This is probably the best advice you're going to get if you're serious about being a photographer as a career. I think photographers usually make up portfolios of their work and take it to agencies etc to get work and or sell their existing prints. Ebay might be a good start I suppose as more of a hobby, but you'll only be selling single prints at a time.

You can try selling stuff using deviantART or similar sites. However, I never managed to sell a single print there, and they take quite a significant cut of the money for themselves.

Are there any magazines that publish photography in some kind of showcase? I'm just kind of taking advice for selling short stories and articles here, and applying that in a photography situation, but magazines are always a good first step. Especially if they pay :vlol:

But, even if they don't, free publishing is always a good start.

Depending on what you take pictures of, newspapers might also be interested.
Art or photography magazines.
Book publishers sometimes need photos.
Advertising agencies.
Hire yourself out for wedding photos, modeling, etc.

Most of all, get professional advice instead of coming to TRF :p

There's always stock photography. Plenty of sites offer a library of user-made photos for sale, and share the profit with the photographers. It probably won't be much, and it probably won't be the kind of photography you'd really like to do, but the world is always in need of generic/clearly themed/etc. images.

You can also just start doing it: if there's a wedding in the family or something, shoot it for free, and use the pictures you made as the first building block of your "wedding" portfolio. The world is also always in need of freelance event photographers.

Offer friends and family (preferably the pretty/characteristic looking ones) a photoshoot. Add the results to your "portrait" portfolio. There are always people who just want to have a nice picture taken of themselves.

Anyway, portfolio is probably the keyword here. If you do a few shoots, you will a) build a portfolio and b) get the word out. If b) does not suffice, you can consider advertising in a newspaper or so.

If you're thinking of making money with just pretty pictures, most photographers will probably advise you to try something else. Although, given the absolutely horrible quality of some of the $2000 photo prints I've seen, there's no reason why people should be able to make money with what are almost by default better pictures. If that's what you're after, walk into a gallery that sells photos, and ask them about the possibilities.

I sell alot of my photography to magazines and newspapers...
As a Newbie I would suggest you try doing some free modeling photography for your portfolio and build up from there to start a little bussiness in that. Its very easy money doing modeling portfolios.

But if you are more into art photography, I suggest you get copyright for your photos and sell them at art galleries. I do about 3 exhibitions a year and always cover my advertising and venue costs + more money made. Art galleries are sometimes very willing to host your expo at no charge though. Go hunt for some fresh galleries with lots of potential.

If you wanna sell your work online, I suggest stock photography websites. It isn't alot of money you'll be generating but in time, if you are good at advertising photography, you'll be making quite a bit provided you have lots of pics to sell.
