View Full Version : What were you in high school? Cliques?

Gladous

Well, I discovered this video today about this new "clique" that's forming around the nation and it's not Jocks, Goths, or Nerds but Teen Wolves.

0fgvyga92Nw&feature=popular

What was pretty disturbing is when they said that they found a dog's skull in that kid's belonging. :tea:

I'm not in any clique because I don't like being labeled like that but this is just... different. :p

Awww...Nice to see some different people out there. I say good look to them as long as they don't worship the devil and raise anarchy which could potentially destroy the planet!

Anyways young habits die old, or is it old habits die hard? Well basically what I mean is they'll probably grow out of it...I hope. lol

Love2Raid

In our school there were mainly, uhmm, not sure what the English term is, 'preps'? ('kakkers' in Dutch), some 'geeks/nerds', a few 'goths' and the 'normal' people. I guess I was 'normal', lol. So not really a clique, just my friends.

Emo, chav, werewolf? That's all new to me, lmao. :o

It's hardly the same. Goths, punks, and emo kids aren't pretending to be mythological creatures.

Oh and as for finding a dog skull in his possession, someone send that kid somewhere to be medicated.

... wtf. That is seriously... just... why?

Any how, my grade was basically split right down in thirds - all the jocks would sit together in their area; the boarders would do their thing, eat in the dining hall and then play football or such usually. The rest of us; which was about 20-30 depending on the day, were made up of the "drama kids", the "musoes", the "nerds" (well, gamers. The true nerds didnt socialise, just sat in the library or computer laboratories) and the "cool asians".

My high school was a great place without any bullying or typical clique-forming. We could however, be grouped based on where in the building we spent our lunch breaks. I was with the "C2 gang" on the top floor, after having moved there away from the "nerdy corner" downstairs. Here, our main rivals were those of the "A2 gang", but it didn't really matter because we were all geeks to begin with and we knew it. :p

There's a little story (http://dp.noctifer.net/moment001.html) on my gaming clan's Web site about the place, if anyone's interested. :p

What's the difference between 'geeks' and 'nerds'? (I really don't know.)

A Nerd is actually a Geek with Social Skills.

Nerd:

A person who gains pleasure from amassing large quantities of knowledge about subjects often too detailed or complicated for most other people to be bothered with.

Often mistaken for Geeks, who aspire to become nerds, yet lack the intelligence, and end up giving nerds a bad name due to their poor social skills.

Non-nerds are often scared of nerds, due to their detailed knowledge, and therefore seemingly high levels of intelligence - and subsequently denegrate them as much as possible as often as possible.

Nerds exist covertly within the fabric of society, often choosing to 'nerd it up' in private or in the company of fellow nerds. It is for this reason they are feared the most - unlike geeks, who are easily identified, nerds can only be found out when casual conversation reaches a subject that they like nerding.

As for the topic itself... heh... I miss the good ol days when people used to make a big deal out of collar wearing delinquints.

As for myself... I was the Jock/Nerd... Alpha Jock if you will... Or if you like, the a-hole who was either loved or hated with extreme disdain.

And things haven't changed one bit to this day ;).

I am still currently in high school. I fit in with pretty much everyone. My school is very open to that sort of thing. The sporty people tend to be the really smart people, AP classes, advanced etc. which are the classes that I am in as well. I may not do a sport, but I get along with the people who do because we share the same class and we are on the same level of knowledge. I fit in with the sort of artsy people as well. I will be nice to anyone and hang out with anyone as long as they also respect me. Cliques do not even come across my mind.

I think geek and nerd have lost their negativeness. Obviously, if someone is socially retarded and greasy, then you can use it negatively - but lately all I seem to hear is, "who isn't?" :D I think it's a positive thing. Or maybe its just a fad at my university. Everyone is addicted to the internet and facebook, anyway.

And, I'm sure they don't want attention like all those 'poser gangs' do.

Also, carrying around the skull of a neighbor's missing dead dog should be more than enough to warrant a trip to the doctor. Maybe get a brain-scan, to see if there is one. It's surely got "a cry for help" written all over it. Anyone who doesn't see a problem with this behavior (having a neighbor's missing dead dog's skull in your possession) should go see the doctor too.

Anyway, in my school all we had were a few (as-in, about 10 people out of 300) try-hards that thought they were good at basketball, but in fact sucked, then there was everyone else.

It's kind of interesting though, I bet by next year there will be a lot more teen wolves out there in the world.

I'm a Junior in high school, a Catholic high school at that. It's a pretty tough crowd because our school/grade is really small. Therefore, everyone is up in everyone's business and knows everything about everyone. There's the typicall cheerleaders, football kids, baseball kids, etc. I don't fall into either categories really. I just kind of bop around and friends with mainly everyone, like a lot of kids at the school. Now that we're aproaching Senior year, the cliques are slowly dying down and just forming into a whole grade, which I think is really cool!

This teen wolf deal seems a bit ridiculous to me, but what ever floats your boat I guess lol.

For years I was stuck in the nerd group you could say. Then I had issues with a particular person and ended up doing something manly and impulsive(maybe stupid too) and was catapulted into the "cool" group, where I remained until I moved out of state.

We don't have them that much, since everybody that goes to my school is considered a nerd automatically. :vlol:

But there are the metal fans, the geeks, the sporty types, and chavy types, but most people get on between the groups. There's only two main circles, a small group with the "cool" people (and the slutty girls), then the rest of us.

I actually thought the whole image of Cliques in US High Schools was surely exaggerated.

Boys who play crappy games
Crappy games? Like the Japanese hentai stuff? I can't think of any truly crappy games except that kind, and the Big Rigs/E.T variety.

In high school was labeled as the quiet one and "that chick who wear too much black". I just read a lot of books during breaks and I liked black... (since when is reading Sci-Fi so frowned upon?) I'm pretty much the same now, except more friendly to everyone.

There aren't that many cliques around my uni though. Thank god everyone is grown up enough to understand that Twilight is an abomination and being preppy is stupid.

Pfff, they're just a bunch of posers dying for attention. Give me real teenage wolves, let the girls grow hair all over thier body and start munching on roadkill.

Just makes me laugh, all these people that fit in to these extreme groups seem to get a kick out of making people hate them...

I fitted in to the 'greebo' category at highschool and towards the end I was in the group that was popular, but not the reall popular group :p.

Probably a geek... or at least considered as one by the "plastic crowd". Yes we really had such a group. In general I got on with most people - apart from a few from said crowd who were in my opinion going to get a very rude awakening when they left high school and realised that they were not all that. Hehe. IIRC they all hated each other anyhow so I'm glad I was out of that group.

Besides I knew what I needed to do to get to where I wanted to be career wise so I was always more inclined to work than party at school.

We had a school uniform at my school and were only allowed to wear stud earrings and very little make-up, so anything like the teen-wolves or goths or anything a little more extreme wouldn't have stood out at all at school. Of course there were still a few gangs of girls but no-one gave them any particular names, like 'geeks' or whatever. As for me, I was in a very exclusive club of one, being shy and quiet and quite studious, I was the bullies favourite.

I don't see anything wrong with these teen-wolves as long as they're not causing any real mischief or harm. The dog's skull incident worries me a bit, but maybe it was just found?

I love what the one girl says "We're not a gang, gangs just want attention"... And I suppose these runts want to balance the budget?

And that just it. Under the guise of shunning attention, they seek it. Are they really that self-unaware, or are they just lying to themselves?

I always look at kids like this (and other groups like CodePink and Westboro Baptist Church) and think that who they are is not what's important. What they need is the reaction. It's a very public, emotional masturbation, I think. "You must notice me, you must revile me, despise me, reject me, admire me, but most of all you must notice me! "

These kids are young, perhaps they're not even aware of how they're beating down their humanity in favor of a self-centered idiom.

Not everyone joins a group to be noticed and be involved in the 'in' thing. Within a sense some people get involved so they'll be looked over eventually since, as apparently the rule of the school grounds, if you're the odd one out then you're going to get picked on.

In theory it's certainly a good thing to be yourself at all times but, speaking of schools, sometimes it can seem like it's not worth the hassle. After all, acting in a school and being you on the outside really aren’t all that far from what a lot of other students seem to do anyway.
I can personally say that I would always rather not risk being an individual, admittedly though, my school was the lowest of the area and if something happened then the teachers did nothing.
