This is just............unbelievable!
A giant sinkhole formed because of the rains. It forms a perfect circle, and spread out until it swallowed a 3-story building.

Yep, Im still scared. Although the likelihood of a sinkhole appearing in Inverness seems unlikely. Stupid as it sounds, I never knew about 'sinkholes' before - the idea had just never struck me, but the fact that it can happen so suddenly is quite terrifying.

Weird news, and ofcourse very bad for the people in the building...
But it does sound bloody hilarious :vlol:

The article said that one person probably died :( Didn't mention any other casualties so I assume everyone else is accounted for.

That is one freaky and oddly captivating picture though.

I read the article again. R.I.P to the 123 who have died in the storms overall :( and I hope the people who're missing are found alive.

Seems a few people are taking the fact people *died* in this disaster a bit too lightly... not 'cool' in my books, just damn terrifying.

Some people even said it was awesome. **** people are heartless at times.
I remember something like this happening to a Sydney apartment a couple of years ago.

Almost looks unreal.

Must be pretty worrying for the residents who live nearby. The rest of the ground may be at risk as well.

Anyone who said "Awesome" or "Cool" needs to read the article again and perhaps think before they speak. What if that had been your house?

Exactly this, folks have you read the end of it :(

Flooding and landslides from the season's first tropical storm have killed at least 150 people and left thousands homeless in Central America, officials said. Guatemala was the hardest hit, with officials putting the death toll at 123, with another 90 still missing.

It is pretty terrifying alright...

I saw the pics last night and was convinced they were shopped, but they were released by the Guatamalan government...

Sucks for the dude who died...It's still quite lucky so few people did though

So that's where we left the missile silo...

Haha that's pretty amazing, not sure what else to say. It's a shame people died, but **** happens. If not there, then somewhere else =/

Wouldnt be saying **** happens if that happened in your city.

Love2Raid

Yes, I saw this on the news today!

It looks so surreal, as if the hole was made with a huge drill or something.
I can't imagine how horrible it must have been to be inside the building that is now swallowed by this huge hole, or fall in it while driving your car. :yik:

It's a miracle that only one person died, it could have been so much worse. Not that 'Agatha' hasn't caused enough damage already, so many lives lost. :(

(By the way, that hole reminds me of the movie Alien vs Predator, when the Predators make a hole in the ice...)

Alpharaider47

actually haha, yeah I probably would. It's a shame, it really is. But the way I look at it is that people are going to die anyways, best not to dwell on it. Make sure they're remembered but keep yourself focused until you can resolve things. I didn't mean for what I typed to come out so heartless.

^^ now that you mention it, it does look like that.

Guess it depends on viewpoints, for the family members its gonna be a tad difficult to not dwell on it :p

Obviously there would be a bottom or we would be reading of the same hole appearing on the other side of the planet :p

Ummm... "awesome" is the correct word for this sinkhole, folks. The word does not in any way mean "good" or anything of the sort... it means "inspiring awe", which amazing events like this always do.

No-one was wrong to say that. Just like a catagory 5 hurricane is undoubtedly awesome in it's size and ferocity. Other terms are used when talking about the tragedy that accompanies it.

The word awesome isnt what seemed strange, it was following it up with a :D smiley that did seem rather tasteless.

I don't know how deep it is, but the bottom is visible in that pic and the crust of the earth is about 30 km thick roughly, so I don't think we have to fear for lava streams. :p

As I said earlier a very similar thing happened in Sydney to an apartment block, lucky on that occassion noone was hurt. Hole appeared near the first story balcony.

I read about it on Yahoo (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20100601/twl-storm-triggers-giant-guatemalan-sink-3fd0ae9.html) and didn't believe it was real lol. It's the sort of thing I only see in the movies. It's interestingly spooky lol :p

Don't forget, this hole swallowed a 3-story building. You can't even see rubble in the hole. This hole is extremely deep. Probably deeper than we can see from this angle.
