It looks good for a FPS, I usually donīt like FPS but I like horror games and it looks kind of scary.

12-06-10, 17:19
Looks very interesting to say the least, I love the whole 'War of The Worlds' (the original one) look to it.

12-06-10, 17:19
"From the creators of BIOSHOCK"

Too early to tell anything, but it seems they like the 1950's-1960's vibe. I want to see more, but I heard there was an original XCOM? Something completely different from this.

Very stylish :cln:

I really like the look of this game and the setting.

Yes, this is a reboot of the X-COM series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-COM).

12-06-10, 18:51
ive never heard of this, but it does look interesting, and quite original.

i really like the '50s (or '60s?) influence to it. It reminds me of War of the Worlds, but with Uroboros:D

i like the style of the graphics, too. they arent photo-realistic, but they are quite nice for being animated.

is it pronounced X Com? or Cris-com? or something:confused:

12-06-10, 18:58
I think X-COM like "ecks-com"

As much as poeple are going to hate me for saying this...
*Takes breath*

I feel as if the UDK3 engine is showing it's age. The attempt at "realistic" enviorments are falling flat. speaking of flat, that's how everything looks at the moment. I know, early trailer, that's why I'm not going to give a deep analysis. So far the graphics look like they were from 2006. Comparable to Oblivion.

12-06-10, 18:58
is it pronounced X Com? or Cris-com? or something:confused:

I believe X-Com, according to Wiki in the originals they were called that because the orginization cleaning things up was called Extraterrestrial Combat Unit (aka X-Com).

12-06-10, 19:42
Looks very Left 4 Dead-ish. Good thing of course. I am interested. :)

12-06-10, 20:35
This game really reminds me of the first 'Destroy All Humans' game, in terms of art style.

12-06-10, 20:38
Same, I really miss those games. :p

I really love how the art-style though, I also love the setting. Am I the only one who usually finds this era in time like really creepy? xD

12-06-10, 20:40
I really love how the art-style though, I also love the setting. Am I the only one who usually finds this era in time like really creepy? xD

With the whole fear of communism aspect? The hysteria being similar to that of 1692 Salem, Massachusetts? Of course :p

12-06-10, 20:56
The art style in Destroy all Humans 2 was more of the 60's era.
Unless you are talking about the first.

12-06-10, 20:57

Unless you are talking about the first.

I am. Seeing as it was set in the 1950's.

13-06-10, 00:24
If this game is as close as good to Bioshock then I am sold; the 50s/60s style is just amazing and 2K so such a good job with it. I am looking forward to this. :jmp:

13-06-10, 00:27
I still have yet to buy Bioshock :o

But the simalarities between the two are very noticiable in style, and weaponary.
I even think some of the VO is the same.

13-06-10, 08:48
I'm glad to see Microsoft is letting go on the whole Xbox exclusive thing. At least we're getting it in the PC too. Same case with Mass Effect.

The game looks interesting. I'm not really into FPS--I've never liked them--but the story seems engaging enough for me to give it try. :) I'm loving the 1950's them too. :D

13-06-10, 17:02
I never played the originals, but this looks interesting.

14-06-10, 11:46
Yes, this is a reboot of the X-COM series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-COM).

Wait so they took fun old school strategy games and are going to reboot the series as FPS? Lol why bother calling it XCom at all... well thereīs been a spin off flight simulator so it doesnīt really matter.

14-06-10, 11:59
Wait so they took fun old school strategy games and are going to reboot the series as FPS? Lol why bother calling it XCom at all.
So they can use the name in order to sell more copies

Just like they did with Far Cry 2

14-06-10, 12:03
Yes but does 90% of the people who will buy the game even remember the classics? I think most of them werenīt even born when the games came out.

14-06-10, 12:09
Who knows

I still fondly remember the first XCOM and Terror from the Deep

Of course you could save money, instead of buying TFTD, just put blue cellophane over your monitor, same effect really

14-06-10, 12:11

I prefer Apocalypse over the first two. The fact that it focuses on a single city rather then whole world makes it much more fun imho. I always attack buildings of enemy companies :D.

14-06-10, 12:34
This looks like Bioshock 3 to me. :ton:

But, it looks really interesting! I wouldn't mind playing this. Oh, and is it just me or does that black stuff look like the Uroboros? :p

13-06-11, 05:27
Bumpity bump! E3 Trailer:

Looks awesome, I looooove the style and setting. :cln:

13-06-11, 17:14
I've seen a preview that says its much more tactical and strategic than any FPS. You can, and need to, direct your minions in combat, and investigating and building news weapons and the like is integral. If I find it, I'll post it.

13-06-11, 17:26
That looks really good! Looks like my sort of game :tmb:

13-06-11, 19:19
Here we go: this isn't the exact article I read, but its close enough- it goes into a bit of detail about the strategy and tactical side of the game.

13-06-11, 19:24
I'm not sure what I think of this game...

13-06-11, 19:59
It looks awesome but I'm fed up of shooters, I'll pass thanks.

Same here. I'm not really impressed with what I've seen.

13-06-11, 20:28
I like this trend of games set in the 1950's, keep them coming.

The setting is interesting, but I feel this could work so much better as a third-person action game. I don't want more first person shooters for a while.

That Other XCOM Game Is Still Coming

2K Games' other XCOM title developed by 2K Marin is still coming, the publisher confirmed.

This morning, 2K announced XCOM: Enemy Unknown, a strategy game developed by Civilization creator Firaxis. The publisher first unveiled the 2K Marin XCOM game, a first-person shooter, in April 2010. The game has since seen its fair share of delays, leading many to believe the title will never ship at this point.

Today's announcement doesn't mean 2K Marin's title is canceled, however. Below is 2K's statement on the matter:

2K Marin’s XCOM and Firaxis’ XCOM: Enemy Unknown are two different games that draw from the classic XCOM universe. Each game offers a unique XCOM experience in different genres, as envisioned by two different studios with unique creative visions. 2K Marin’s XCOM is a tactical squad based shooter, offering boots-on-the-ground action through the experience of an XCOM agent leading a team into combat against a dangerous, unknown enemy threat. 2K Marin’s XCOM is a character driven experience and offers a look at the origin of the XCOM organization as it faces its first threat from outside our world.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown, currently in development at Firaxis Games, is an action strategy title that will be instantly recognizable to fans of the original XCOM, while offering a ground-breaking gameplay experience for today’s console and PC gamers. With equal emphasis on deep strategy and intense tactical combat, XCOM: Enemy Unknown puts players in control of the entire XCOM organization, managing resources, improving technologies, and overseeing their combat strategies and individual unit tactics, while battling a terrifying alien invasion around the globe. Released in 1993, the original XCOM is widely regarded as one of the best games ever made and has now been re-imagined by the strategy masterminds at Firaxis Games.

XCOM from 2K Marin is scheduled to ship during Take-Two's 2013 fiscal year, which begins on April 1, 2012 and ends March 31, 2013. XCOM: Enemy Unknown is coming this fall.

Revamped XCOM FPS looks set for reveal

Mysterious YouTube video linked to Take-Two web domains

Take-Two's XCOM first-person shooter looks set for reveal as a rebranded title unrelated to the sci-fi franchise.

The release of the 2K Marin-developed title has been in question after it suffered a string of delays since its announcement in 2010. The game was originally scheduled for a March 2012 release. That release window was ruled out at around the same time as Firaxis RTS XCOM: Enemy Unknown (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/xbox-360/sim-strategy/12562/xcom-enemy-unknown/) was revealed.

Now a possible viral video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=KKJebhdzHsM) has appeared online featuring the source code phrase 'whathappenedin62', a web domain Take-Two registered earlier this year.

Take-Two also registered domains for thebureau-game.com and thebureau-game.net.

Mysterious packages have also been dispatched to games press (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3xqroeWX44) this week, featuring tourist materials for locations originally planned to appear in the XCOM FPS.

Recently Take-Two removed the XCOM shooter's official site (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/400955/2ks-xcom-shooter-official-site-trailers-taken-down/) and two trailers were set to private on YouTube.

Take-Two said during its third quarter financial call (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/389508/xcom-shooter-is-still-in-production-take-two/) in February that the shooter was still in production.

Cool! I liked the idea, but now to see what they did with it.. Hopefully it follows behind the footsteps of Bioshock. ^.^

Found this story about the new X-Com game. It looks and sounds a lot better than it previously did (to me anyway).

Seems interesting, TPS. Hopefully it will be better than Spec Ops: The Line. :)

Nice box-art:

I was going to make a new thread, but seeing as this was bumped I'll just post this here, I don't know if mods can change the name. :(

It looks really good, king of reminds me of Mass Effect. I'll update the OP shortly.
