View Full Version : Does anyone like the 360 Slim

Johnnay

As anyone would know the 360 Slim was recently unvelied at E3 and there is hardly any changes besides bulit in WiFi( which is a must), the CPU and GPU of it is together instead of Seperate like the old 360 and the design is a bit different.

Do you like this 360 or the old ones better:)

Oh and for Americans the price Tag is 300 bucks for one of those with a 250GB HDD

i dare everyone to look at the back of that console, the changes are there

5 USB PORTS..... CANT ANYONE BELIEVE IT

Removal of the front memory slots, with the recommendation to use USB drives for external storage.
Addition of an Optical out (TOSLINK) port for digital audio
Addition of a hybrid power and data port for Microsoft’s new Kinect controller – no power adaptor will be required.
Addition of two extra USB ports on the rear of the device.
Smaller power adaptor supplied with the console, rated at 135 watts.

Xbox 360 slim HDD data transfer cable to retail for $20 (http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/14/xbox-360-slim-hdd-data-transfer-cable-to-retail-for-19-99/)

im glad theres a solution. but $20 is reasonable, i just hope i can get it used, if im only going to be using it once.
--------------------
A question you may be asking yourself: If I upgrade to an Xbox 360 Slim (http://joystiq.com/tag/Xbox-360-Slim), how do I transfer the data on my current Xbox to the new one? It was revealed to us at Microsoft's Xbox 360 Slim unwrapping event (http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/14/xbox-360-slim-unwrapped-and-unboxed/) that the new console will support the current data transfer cable (originally made for the Xbox 360 Elite). We also learned that the cables will be available at retail for $19.99 -- a very good thing considering how hard the cables are to find these days. The cables should be available when the new consoles hit the shelves (which should be any day now).

The transfer process is easy enough: Attach the cable to your old hard drive and connect the other end into the USB slot of the 360 Slim. No additional software is required to initiate the transfer process.

If you prefer more cumbersome data transfer methods, of course, you could always move data 8GB at a time with flash drives. If that's still too convenient, you can redownload each and every piece of content from Xbox Live.

Owning one of the first 2006 Xbox 360s priced at NZD$700, and after the strife I went through with the RROD (3 times!) subsequently resulting in the happy working (but now fat) replacement I received free from Microsoft last year, you can imagine what a horribly tough incongruity is going on in my conscience right now! :vlol:

I have to buy a new Xbox because of the E 74 and I guess I gotta fork $300 for one of these slim unit things.

Some of the extra features sound nice. I wonder if it comes with an HDMI cable. Either way, I'm extremely happy with my Elite and I'm certainly not going to buy another 360 that doesn't give any game performance advantages (I've already got the HDMI cable for the Elite and I don't have Wi-Fi at my house anyway, but the audio cable sounds intriguing since I haven't figured out how to hook up my 360 to my current 7-year old PC speakers :p)

I don't see why it's a flaw. Common sense dictates that you do not move a console while a disc is spinning in it. And regardless of if it were intentional or not, I think it was a pretty stupid move.

I had a discussion with my friend last night about this new console.

My 360 broke for the 13th time a couple of months back, of course microsoft wouldn't give me a free repair even though my consoles have broken down so many times. So I thought rather than paying for a repair which inveitably isn't going to fix the problem and it'll just break down once more, I'll just buy a new xbox. So I bought another Elite, which set me back £180.

Now, just over 2 months later they release this new one which is not only better in so many ways but also costs roughly the same price. So of course once again I'm left feeling short changed by microsoft.

Good one :/

not in a million years. they don't replace your xbox to begin with when that happens.. they basically give you one that has broken but has been fixed, so refurbished.... or they try their best to fix the one you sent it... if they can't then they do like i just mentioned.

I've got my elite lying flat on a hard table (not boxed in a cabinet or sitting on a rug) and I haven't had any overheating problems so far. I think overheating is mainly an issue for people who put the 360 in some kind of entertainment display case so it's enclosed and doesn't get much air circulation. I got RROD once when the house's power flicked off and then on. Scared the crap out of me, but it went away after a few seconds and the 360 has been working fine since then.

I've got mine set up in a similar fashion. I had RROD once, but it was due to dust buildup and what not. Basically what you get on your computer after awhile. I vacuumed it out(it was out of warranty anyways) and it worked just like new.

... i'd like it a lot better if you could guarantee it won't ever give me the Red Ring. my current XBOX 360 just did for the first time. it's under-used and i might play it less than 10-15 times a year. oh well i got this one for free. :D

original 360s do that as well. Really, what kind of idiot moves the thing while it's playing a disc?

It certainly looks much better than the original. I hope it addresses cooling issues, but tbh - I'll buy a PS3 slim before I even consider one of these. (Because the original Ps3 is FAR more ugly than the original 360 :vlol: )

Also; does anyone else think they aren't really all that "Slim"? If the PS2 started the "slim" trend... in comparison these still seem rather large. The PS2 Slim was TINY in comparison to the big old bricky original.

NOTHING with a disc drive should be moved with the disc in it, people! Geez... this is user-fault; and he does it knowing that he shouldn't. He's just another internet ass trying to be "funny".

This supposedly doesn't happen with the PS3 because it doesn't have a tray... BUT the bad part of that scenario is that it's much harder to get your disc out if something goes wrong... so, both disc systems have their strengths and weaknesses.

The problem is that it even makes a scratch when someone maybe bumps into it... I know that whenever a disc is inserted you should not move it, or atleast prevent as much as possible. But try it once with the Wii or PS3, i bumped into both while there was a disc in them, and both discs still look brand new. Plus i once changed my position of Wii from Vertically to Horizontally while i was actually playing a game, and yes that disc also still looks perfect.

The problem is not the fact that the guy tilted the system when it was reading a disc (it was not smart but still). Its the same as the really old 2005/2006 360 models. There aren´t any ``pads`` surrounding the lens to prevent the disc from being able to get any physical contact with the lens what so ever. And when you thought Microsoft learned from this mistake with the old models by changing the lens that was in the console. They clearly did not pay attention when designing this model:pi:

And no i am not attacking Microsoft whatsoever. Its just another relatively stupid mistake that should have taken care of before shipping the system!

$199 Xbox 360 Slim Confirmed
Microsoft to ship additional hardware bundle this fall.
June 21, 2010

by Jim Reilly - Microsoft has confirmed it will ship a $199 version of its new Xbox 360 console this fall, a representative told IGN.

The company unveiled its latest Xbox 360 console redesign at E3 last week, but only announced a $299 retail sku, which includes built-in WiFi and a 250 GB hard drive.

Microsoft did not offer additional details about the $199 sku.

The hardware maker is currently looking to remove the old Xbox 360 models from retailers, offering a $50 price cut on both the Arcade and Elite bundles in North America.

A purported internal marketing Q&A document obtained by Kotaku states Microsoft will also ship bundles that include Kinect, its upcoming motion camera due out this fall. Microsoft would not comment on those reported details, however.

I'll be getting that version, because I'm a cheap *****. :p

But wait, the article kind of implies that the cheap version won't have the built-in wi-fi or the large hard drive. If that's the case, is there much point in getting a slim instead of the 360 you've got now?

I don't see how it implies that the wi-fi won't be built in, I think it will only have a smaller HDD. :o

I have a 20GB HDD, so it really doesn't get any smaller than that. :p

The PS3 harware and 360 hardware is bigger and more advanced than the ps2,therefore being smaller:)

The X360 slim is a very cool looking piece of hardware, but I'm not going to buy it, I still don't trust the original design because of the overheating issues, so with an even smaller design it would definitly give me extra headaches.
Better save my money for buying more games.

That's what she said.

Didn't the original Xbox come with an 8GB drive? Maybe they're reverting back.

I see no reason not to get it. The red rings are gone and it has built in wi-fi. just don't be a dumb :cen: and tilt the console with the disc inserted, as it clearly states on the console and in the manual.

I remember taking an Xbox apart once, it was just a standard 3.5" hard disk. Not sure what's fat about that.
