20th Century Fox has officially announced a 3D Ice Age: Continental Drift, the fourth installment in the CGI franchise for July 13, 2012.

No further details were provided, but Ray Romano, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo, and Queen Latifah are expected to reprise their voice roles. Also, Scrat will chase after a nut.

Despite diminishing returns in terms of quality, the trilogy has increased its box office each time around. The original Ice Age made $383 million worldwide in 2002. The second, Ice Age: Meltdown, brought in $655 million. The most recent, 2009’s anachronistic Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, made $884 million.

I’m more than a little disappointed in this new sequel. Not because it’ll recycle the same characters and jokes to squeeze more dollars out of parents, but because I was hoping for a time machine twist that sends the gang into modern times. Sigh, a missed opportunity for wacky hijinks. Maybe in 2015.

It's due for a July 2012 release.

The first two were good but now it seems like the series are dragging. :o

I thought it ended perfectly with the 3rd film. I didn't like the second much. I don't know if I'll see this, I didn't even see Shrek 4.

Dreamworks really do enjoy dragging on their franchises, don't they?

I didn't even see Shrek 4.

I haven't seen Shrek 4 yet either, heard it was suppose to be pretty bad from reading a couple of reviews for the film!

As much as I like movies such as Shrek and Ice Age, they really should have ended them with the third films, instead of milking them out to get more money and the films not being all that great in the process! :/

Oops! For some reason, I always assumed it was.

Well...

We can finally consider this milking a franchise.

Nope, it's Blue Sky Studios (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Sky_Studios). :)

But yeah, they sort of are pulling a Shrek with this. :/

That's what I like about Pixar as a company, they've had some weak movies yes, but they don't tend to milk out their popular franchises, releasing sequel after sequel less than 2 years after it's original release! Pixar set to deliver on the movie being a great movie, something which can't be said for Ice Age or Shrek for me, as they've been getting worse! :/ And my Pixar fan boyish post is now finished! :p

I sort of hope that 4 is the last one. The first two were great, the third not as good but still enjoyable.

I have a feeling that this might get horribly dragged out like the Shrek series and cause its own downfall if it has another movie after this one.

...

Nothing original left in the cinema? Oh that's a shame.
so sick of these sequals. Just end it already. Pixar have been the only 3D animation studio to have not dragged on a seris.

Are they trying to follow in Shreks's shadow? :p

If someone is sick of Ice Age then don't watch it. Simple as that. I still have yet to watch 2 and 3.

I don't see anything wrong with another one. It'll end up in my Netflix queue just like the first did. They're fairly enjoyable.

What do you mean?

The bowl's empty. The horse can't run any more. The cow has no more milk to give. The train's out of track. The ice has melted. There's no more water in the well.

I could go on with as many ways of saying this: There's only so many sequels they can get away with on an animated feature. I say the same about Shrek.

3D technology isn't a reason to make more pointless movies, Hollywood. :hea:

Lol yup.
I like Ice age, but 4 is too much, they should of stooped at 3 the most.

Shush they can make as many as they want so no complaining! They'll probably make a Number 5 after 4 has been released.

Hmm... I'll give it a try, the third one was really far away from disappointing me (Like the second one did :pi:). It might be an enjoyable movie :)

I don't think 2 or 3 was bad despite me not watching them.
