wideshot ammo will do more dammage on large targets, but usually does less on normal enimies.

I did some investigating of this in TR4. If you aim at a dark wall, you can see many little bright spots (25 or 30), and they're more spread out for wideshot shells. Then I tried firing at enemies (it's hard to find ones who obligingly stay at a set distance), and they died based on the number of little hits they took.
If you're too far away, wideshot spreads out so much that soldiers die slowly. On the other hand, it's good for groups or darting targets (such as bats). Sometimes I used the shotgun for the shooting gallery of the Egyptian Advenrure (Coastal Ruins), and wideshot might let you get several targets in one shot (IIRC).

I thought it would be a waste of ammo to use the shotgun on bats that's why i used pistols on them.
Thanks for the info, rr_carroll. :) Personally, I have never seen any noticeable difference in normal and wideshot ammo, but I guess that's probably because I don't have the patience to carry out controlled experiments with them. :p

Because of my penchant for bugging onto buildings, there are occasions where I'm shooting at someone on another building. Wideshot is plainly less effective then. One such was the soldier overlooking the door you raise to jump the motorcycle in Trenches of TR4.

I mainly used the Pistols through all the TR's. They are the best weapons :D

Would it make a difference if you use either Automatic, or Manual targeting?

For the targets, use Manual, and tilt and pan to adjust aim. Most weapons don't allow tilting.
I found the grenade launcher very useful when i dont have time to figure out fancy shots and the goons or whatever are rushing Lara. I found even if she fires a grenade very close to herself it will not hurt her. At least in TR2.
