Devil May Cry (デビル メイ クライ) is a series of four hack and slash video games set in the modern day(possible the mid to late 1990's), developed by Capcom and created by Hideki Kamiya. Originally intended to be a sequel in Capcom's Resident Evil series, Devil May Cry was such a radical departure from the series' style that it was developed into a new property entirely. Devil May Cry has been cited as the origin of the 3D hack and slash genre of video games followed by the Ninja Gaiden, Shinobi, and God of War series of video games. The series centers on main character Dante's goal of avenging his mother's murder by exterminating demons. The gameplay consists of heavy combat scenes in which the player must attempt to extend long chains of attacks while avoiding damage in order to exhibit stylized combat; this element along with time and amount of items collected and used are taken under consideration when grading the player's performance.

I totally love the game series, and as there wasn't a thread around. I'd thought to make one!

The 1st and 3rd were the only good games in the series, 2 & 4 were awful IMO.

Devil May Cry 4 is awful? Whaaaaaaaaatttttt?! XD

I completed and loved the original Devil May Cry; the combat was really nice and I really loved the Gothic look. I've only gotten around halfway through Devil May Cry 4 and I really enjoyed what I played of that too. I just need to summon the willpower to get back to the game; DMC stresses me out and that is the only thing that is really putting me off.

I've yet to play the fourth, but very much enjoy the original trilogy. I think the second is underrated. While it feels somewhat simplistic and incohesive, I love the atmosphere and find it generally quite entertaining.

I've only played the 4th game, but I really enjoyed it and Dante is great! :cln: :D

Dante, Nero came across too whiney for my liking.

I loved Devil May Cry.

Wasn't a big fan of the second.

The third was okay.

The fourth was awful.

I love DMC, so far I have played 3 and 4.
The DMC3 is my favorite one and 4 is not so bad just too bad it's so repetitive.
Dante is awesome character and Vergil is a badass.:D

Dante > Nero, any day. ;)

QFT.

I was so completely disappointed in Capcom's ill-conceived DMC4. It's not that they brought in a new hero. They did it with Onimusha 2 after all, and I enjoyed that game. But what is the point of having a new character that looks exactly like Dante, talks like Dante, and plays like Dante? Were they hoping I wouldn't notice it wasn't Dante?

I own DMC2, but I haven't played it yet. I understand that it's easier to enjoy if you don't play it immediately after 1 or 3 since it isn't as strong a game.

I played all of them, but I only like the 3rd and 4th of the series. DMC1 was way to hard:mad:, and DMC2 was just bad. I like Dante's character and think that a 5th game needs to hurry up and come out because Bayonetta stole Dante's spotlight( I really like that woman;))

Juuuuuuuust kidding. :D

Actually I've never played the second one. But I've watched a small part of a walkthrough and it seems like a really moody game (not in a good way). Is it really as bad as people describe it?

The DMC anime was cool but fell flat compared to the game.

Any news on the fifth one by the way?

Apparently Devil May Cry 5 will be a lot different to its predecessors. I'm looking forward to discover how it will look like. The most recent news are the following :

Capcom’s global head of production Keiji Inafune has indicated that the developer plans on injecting a bit of a “western touch” in to Devil May Cry 5 in order to stimulate sales of the franchise outside of Japan.

Apparently, while acknowledging that the stylish hack n’ slash series maintains a loyal fan base, the company is keen to see more sales out of the franchise in western territories.

“Devil May Cry 5 is a game that, when started development, this will change a lot in relation to the above,” Inafune told Spanish site 3Djuegos.

“The reason is that, despite the franchise has some very loyal followers, their sales are not particularly high, especially overseas.”

“For this reason, it is likely that in the fifth chapter will incorporate certain western touch to make it more attractive to American and European players.”

Capcom hasn’t formally announced Devil May Cry 5 as of yet, though rumors have linked the sequel to Heavenly Sword developer Ninja Theory. Unsurprisingly, the studio has refused to confirm or deny it’s involvement with the game.

^ Yikes people, don't spoil the game for others, write the twist in white font.

I only played DMC 3 and 4, but I loved both of em. Don't get why the fanbase hated Nero so much. It's not like he replaced Dante. And in the end, a demon's a demon. As long as the gameplay is fun nothing else matters that much in a hack & slasher.

what twist, exactly? she has appeared as gloria for like, what, 5 mintues? and she just pulled off some sort of a sheet off her, that's odd.

i've never played a DMC game, is it like Bayonetta except with a guy? thats what it seems to be to me from watching vids of DMC4, I also watched some reviews and im really not sure whether to get it :/ and like, the game doesn't even support trophies?

No everyone can play the games when they're released. I've only just now finished Half-Life 2 for example, and I know that it's considered an old game by now. Just saying that it's best to be cautious and not potentially ruin someone's fun. :) I hate being spoiled, and I'm sure everyone else does too.

what twist, exactly?
Revealing Gloria's actual identity. I know it's not a big deal, but I thought it was a nice twist.

Well yes, it's a lot like Bayonetta, but it still has its own unique flavor. Let's not forget that DMC4 came out first.
I think it's really worth getting. Although it has some minor flaws it's an amazing game.

The controls in PC are kinda hard IMO, so its better to use a controller (or atleast it was better to me do it like that). Regarding to the story, It explains some things about DMC1

Finished replaying DMC4. Had a blast. I love this game.
It was really sad to reach the end of the journey.
I really can't wait till the release of the fifth one. And now, I'll probably start replaying DMC3.

By the way...
Is it strange that I prefer Nero over Dante? It seems like I can relate to him more. I wonder if we will see him in the next game.
Dante is still a badass character though.
