Apologies for the downtime. The migration is complete. Some of you will need to flush your DNS cache in order to see Tomb Raider Forums on our new web server. Your ISP should purge DNS cache every two hours. If you can read this post, then you are viewing our forum on our new web server.

Enjoy. Any problems please let me know.

I think it means that the new server can handle more in the way of data than the old one.

The hardware was a couple of years old and would have limited the forum's scalability in the future. This move ensures the forum can scale with ease.

I don't think it could handle the traffic.

Future proofing.

Trying to send the message that TRC/TRF are not going the way of Planet Lara?

tlr online
04-08-10, 13:57
That hadn't even occurred to me. I'm sad that Chris is closing Planet Lara. We've had our differences but he's a great guy and his web site is almost as old as mine. As for my plans, it's business as usual.

TRfan23

You know, people could still VM eachother in the move. So all my VMs I sent are gone (sorta knew that was going to happen), so they're stuck on the old server. They weren't important anyways.

For some weird reason I got this message when I tried to flush my dns cache.

Windows IP Configuration

Could not flush the DNS Resolver Cache: Function failed during execution.

So I waited until it manually refreshed my cache.

Well there's no problems so far with this move, so all is good :) Thanks for the move Justin :)

I'm having problems. I can only access TRF on the new server with Safari on my iPhone. I still see the old board on a regular PC. A few of the members have said that they've tried the instructions too, but to no avail.

This is perfectly normal. ISP's cache DNS's. Eventually they will refresh and you'll see the new forum.

I wonder one thing, does this mean there are still donations needed to keep everything up and running or is this problem now solved by moving? :)

Can someone explain to me what this actually means? I really don't get it. TRF looks and feels the same to me.

Ask him to be patient. Some ISP's can take a while to flush their DNS. Eventually he will be able to see the new forum.

Here is an article on why some ISP's take longer to update their DNS.

They've both tried and it doesn't seem to help. A problem I overcame by switching browser. I'll see if they can try that.

I would recommend not putting your username/password into a proxy service, especially if you're a Mod.

It's also against our T&C (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/faq.php?faq=vb_faq) to use a anonymous proxy service to connect to the forum.

The safer way would be to edit your Windows Hosts file using Notepad and force Windows to see our new server and ignore your ISP's cache. Add this line.

91.215.180.79 www.tombraiderforums.com

and then save the file and restart your browser. Your Hosts file can be found in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\

silviu_raider
04-08-10, 21:41

Thank you very much.
Will try it right now!
