View Full Version : vBulletin comes to its senses with a '3-month 3.x maintenance pack'

Finally some good sense from vBulletin, the makers of our forum software. Some of you will remember my earlier complaint about vBulletin who were forcing customers who had already bought vBulletin 3.x to shell out another $195 for vBulletin 4.0 simply to continue to download patches for 3.x.

It seems some common sense has prevailed. The company are now offering a 3-month 3.x maintenance pack for 30. I'll be purchasing this and then upgrading our forum software to the latest in the 3.x series. I have no plans to upgrade to 4.0 at this time.

Upgrade should be transparent. I'll let you know ahead of time however.

^ If you noticed he said, "Upgrade should be transparent." :p

What does '4.0' have to offer in terms of improvements anyway?

Nope. Text-based signatures were voted on by members of the forum.

Ooft, blogging...! :p The rest, IDK whatever those things mean. Technical stuff, eh? :p

Wasn't there a question about whether we wanted blogging or not before? I believe the proposal was voted down. :p

We trialed a blogging feature on the server but it was poorly received.

Eugh... low contrast for the lose! I had to tilt my head just to see wtf was going on with their mouths. Should probably be less lazy and adjust my laptop screen to a better angle... meh.

Maybe Justin can update it, but edit the smileys (maintaining the old ones). Speaking of which, I much prefer the old smileys, the ones that we can see that the "roll eyes" smiley is actually rolling his eyes, and the smiling smiley doesn't turn green, purple when sad, etc. It's all yellow faces. :p

Okay, seriously, never updating because of smilies? You know that you can just replace them with these ones right?

You can't even see the expressions on them new, minute, HIDEOUS smileys. :vlol:

Almighty Penguin, it must be very hard to pay for things like this so why don't you switch to something like phpBB or myBB. I use phpBB on my site and it has most of the features of a vBulletin forum.

Sometimes I wonder why people use vBulletin (no offense, awesome admin :D) It would save you alot of money. Although like its your choice on how this forum operates and always will be (until you die, lol :p). Just a suggeston. :)

EDIT:

If he did upgrade to 4.0. You can just save all the v3.0 smilies and import them again. :D
