Does anyone have them? Any experience using them? I just bought mine yesterday, the original Rider Waite Tarot Pack.:)

And I gotta say that I don't believe in the "spiritual" or "prophetic insight" of what it was known for. I just thought the pics looked nice. It was stated the the cards describes the essential human situations and patterns which all of us experience life at one time or another (maybe). And it intrigues me that these deck of cards has a profound effect on people. It was first used in a game called Triumphs, it was later on adopted as a tool for divination, and popularized by occult societies.

Just my opinion of course. I'm currently reading the it's companion guide book on understanding the cards.

A little something about the creator:
Pamela Colman Smith, born Feb 16,1878 was a theathrical designer for miniature theathre and an illustrator, mainly on books, pamphlets and posters in England. Around 1903, she began to paint visions that came to her while listening to music. The designs, published by Rider and Son in 1909. Despite occasional art shows and favorable reviews by critics, the continued slow sales of her works and rejections by commercial publishers left her deeply disappointed.

She never married and no known heir. She would be astonished today to know that the deck she created has touches the heart and emotions of millions of people.

I don't really dabble with that kind of stuff. Interesting art though.

My unrelated Aunt, whom I call my Aunt nontheless, practices Tarot. I've always been curious, but I've never looked into it more than that. :)

Anyways, no I don't bother with them either, I'm not really the superstitious type. :o

I should get my cards out. I have this deck:

http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/manga-minetti/

It's so beautiful. It's the one that 'called to me', though at this point I'm considering buying a different set for when it doesn't. :P

My readings are almost always surprisingly accurate. I'm pretty sure it's some subconscious thing in my brain rather than something spiritual, but my subconscious often has some damn good advice!

Maybe I'll get this one. :p http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/alcohol/ It calls to me! Or at least, the alcohol does. it's been a phenomenally crappy week.

I have the rider waite you do (pocket sized), this art nouveau one (http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/art-nouveau/index.shtml), the Feng Shui tarot (http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/feng-shui/), and a few other decks. I love collecting them for the art and I like the story in them. I don't believe in foreseeing the future or anything like that but I do believe looking at them can give me a different perspective on a problem or situation I'm in. And they are a super cool conversation starter. :jmp:

I'd recommend you Druidcraft Tarot. I own them and I am satisfied with them at all. Nice pictures and they just have such a special atmosphere...

I don't own a deck as I don't dabble in divination or superstition. However, I have a deck of Clow Cards from "Card Captors". Does that count? (I don't think it does, lol).

For me, it's absolutely nothing to do with superstition or mysticism or anything like that. I won't even look too long at ouija boards because they feel scary to me, but Tarot cards are just... I don't know. It's like dreaming, to me, except without getting bogged down in the details. You lay down your dreams, see the neat pictures like you're asleep, then (if it's not obvious) you glance at a guide to help you interpret them.

It's really weird. My cards are always accurate if I'm focused when I do it. I can't explain it right, but I feel it tapping the same part of my brain as dreams do. And I have VERY predictive/insightful dreams, most of the time. I have highly specific dreams that later (days or years later) occur in real life, in the exact setting with the exact sounds/sights as in my dream. My brain is really powerful, underneath all the weirdness and sickness, but the only way I can tap into it is with Tarot cards and dreams. Well, and also the occasional kick-to-the-stomach feelings I get when something happens to someone I care about.

Once when I was a kid, I had this horrible feeling like I'd been punched in the gut, and I was suddenly really sad. I started crying, and my mom ran in and asked me how I'd found out about my grandpa. Apparently he was really sick and had just been admitted to the hospital. Hmm. I had lots of little things like that growing up, but I don't remember them happening in my adult life. Now I mostly just have good or bad feelings in my stomach, and if I disregard them horrible things happen. :p

So yeah, I think Tarot cards are real and they tap into the same phenomenon that dreams and gut-feelings have for some people (the stuff that makes sceptics wonder). It's not magic, it's something that you do subconsciously without fully understanding it.

Other decks I just found:

I WANT IT I WANT IT I WANT IT!!!!!!!!! *squees* BUNNIES!!!!! http://www.nakisha.com/rabbit_tarot/the_rabbit_tarot.htm It's not a silly deck either, but it's so adorable!

For the Norse inclinced (after TRU? lol) I thought these were really pretty: http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/norse/

I've had a pack now for a good few years and I always go through stages when forget all about them and then I can't put them down for ages!!!

Mine have been accurate but because I'm not that learned in them, I'm not that good... But a friend of my aunts is obsessed with and has been reading tarot for years! She done a different kind of reading on me though that wasn't tarot... I think they were called something like angel cards, I really can't remember... Anyways, she was really spot on with them and she done my mum n dad separately as well and got them spot on too!

I've never had one done on me, though. Would like to.

Oh, now that I am reading the topic, people here are only talking about tarot for cartomancy?

I find that use rather pointless, since tarot was made for playing, not for reading, you know...

Tarot games are just so much fun, it's amazing how in USA, you guys use tarot for divination only! French people have corrupted me then :p Anyone here actually plays tarot games? :/

Slightly off topic i have had no experience with tarot cards except for when i played Fahrenheit aka Indigo Prophecy.

Which leads me to my next question have tarot cards made many appearances in computer games?

What kind of "appearance" you're referring to?

There are programs you can install in your PC where you can play French Tarot for example, as with any other card games :)

Exactly, I played that game as well! But I think the outcome of it is still the same for the girl no matter what card you choose. :pi: When I pick some of the cards, his gay friend would always tell her bad news or terrible things are coming for her.

Have you got different outcome?

The Tarots in Persona are superior.

I always got the same outcome i think the outcome is pre-determined so that you will always get the same outcome no matter what cards you pick.

Did some checking on gamefaqs out of curiosity

Carla Valenti - Carla's place
*****************************

Avoid: talking about Carla's private life; looking out of the window; talking
about work
Do: get some sleep; use the loo; eat some pizza; watch TV

It is extremely !important! that you do everything you can to get Carla back
into a good mood. She will quit her job if you don't manage to do that on time!
Leave the bathroom and run through the bedroom to the living room. You will
find the phone next to the door you enter the room through. Done talking use
the bathroom which is to the right. Now return to the bedroom and lay down. Go
back to the living room and grab some pizza. Watch some TV and Carla should
feel better after a while.
Go back to the bedroom and get dressed. The door bell should be ringing any
minute. Go and open the door to your (gay) neighbour. Carla likes him so her
mood will get better the moment she sees him. Go to the kitchen and open the
cupboard above the sink to find the glasses. Place them onto the table and
drink a glass of wine with Tommy while the two of you will be talking (ask
about 'Tommy' and talk about 'difference').
He will suggest a game of tarot, something you cannot avoid no matter what. It
also doesn't matter which cards you choose. Just hope Carla is well enough to
be able to take it.

Switch over to Tyler and fax Carla the piece of paper. Walk over to Carla's
desk and check out the newspaper. Give Carla a call.

Bit mixed on them.

It's scary how close this year was to the tarot readings of last year. However... I'm due another reading this Halloween.

I've always been curious about them, but have never had a reading done or bought a deck for myself.
