I've got the letter this year offering me a chance to go stay for a week in Bunde in Germany with a family as a student exchange; the Germans will come round here later in 2004. I was just wanting a second opinion from you guys: should I go? I've never been further from home than France in my life ( http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/redface.gif ), and I want to go on this trip but none of my school friends want to come. I know it'll improve my German, but going on this means that I'll miss out on the trip to Alton Towers (a theme park ;) ) which just happens to coincide.  http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/bash.gif
What to do... what to do? http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

It sounds like a wonderful opportunity, Gecko. There are lots of occasions to go to theme parks...if I were you, I'd jump at the chance to go to Germany. Chance to see the country with the people who live there, & to make new friends.

Well, I guess I'm thinking of the long journey there, without my friends (who will all be going to Alton Towers no doubt) :( A whole day traveling, if not more, by bus and ferry http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/yuck.gif
But it would be really nice to get away from Scotland, even if it's just for a week... ;)
I guess I've got a few weeks to contemplate it yet before they get us to hand in our forms and so on

Geck, it's only for one week. I think you can make it without your friends just for a week. I suggest you to go http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

I'm confused. I thought you said it was for a year?

If it is for a year, I say go for it! You only get that sort of chance once in a lifetime!

OK, maybe if I bring a couple of good books and curl up in the corner on the way there and back http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/privateeye.gif There were horror stories of Spin-the-Bottle from those who went last year  :D

I wanna go, I just don't know who else is going. If the group of neds I constantly try and avoid are going... you can be sure I'm not http://messenger.msn.co.uk/Resource/emoticons/confused_smile.gif I'll have to ask around http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/privateeye.gif

OK... I'll pluck up my courage and just go for it http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Unless you know you'll be rich once you move out of home and don't have any financial support from your parents then you shouldn't pass up this opportunity. If you wanna decline, then pass ther invite my way :D

I had a German exchange student here once. It was hell, we didn't get along at all! I think that going to Germany for a year is a wonderful opportunity. You seem a bit worried about those nerds and the trip. Will you be staying with a family there- one that is separate form all the other nerds' host families? If it's all individual and your only going to be with the nerds for the trip and not for the rest of the year then I think it may be worth it. I hope that you'll get a good host family (I know lots of friends that didn't get treated as well as they expected) make sure your prepared to be away form home for such a long time, it can be lonely but with some good long books I'm sure you'll be able to survive http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Tell us what you decide on, I hope that you make a wise choice "There is nothing more difficult and therefore more precious than the ability to decide." Napoleon

p.s I'm facing a similar decision when it comes to travelling to Colombia South America this year.. Do you think I should go even though it's so dangerous at this time?
