THE world's first newspaper made of gold has been published in south China, selling for 69,000 yuan ($10,675) a copy, state media reported today.

The one-off publishing event was launched by the China Economic Daily in the boom city of Shenzhen, the Xinhua news agency said.
The paper, called China's Flourishing Period, was issued to commemorate the "achievements of the past 10 sessions of China's top legislative body", the National People's Congress, Xinhua said.

The golden newspaper had two editions, the one priced at $US8300 (AU$10,675) using 500 grams of gold, while another edition using just 200 grams could be had at a more affordable 29,000 yuan (AU$4501), Xinhua said.

It did not say how many pages it had
