After I have killed 2 mummies in the room I have had to shimmy along ledges in, I am supposed to be able to access a tunnel on the left side of the room in order to get to the switch to lower the final bridge (bridge to scarab). But after I have killed the two mummies all I find are two alcoves, no passage. What's going on!!! HELP PLEASE!!!

Ahh yes TR1 ... my favorite of the series.
To get the pieces you need to move on you have to pull all 4 switches. A couple of switches are in the uppermost chamber of the oblesk. you have to go into the water,surface, slide down into a chamber kill a couple of panthers then climb, climb, climb to a stiarway that leads to another series of swithches.(killing more monsters along the way) look EVERYWHERE (try to ignore the movies) there are ALOT of switches to flip up there. There are also 3 switches to flip in the room with the big slide, there's one inside an alcove at the bottom, there's one where the panther comes from, and there's one to the left on a platform, after the slide turns into stairs.
There's another switch that moves a bridge down behind the iron fenceing, but you can't get to that 1 until you've been through the room with 3 sets of stairs and flipped all of thoes switches. And finally, there's another switch to flip in the large room that involves alot of shimming across ledges and a couple of long jumps. that switch is also behind the iron fencing. Be careful because in order to exit that room you have to drop to the floor and when that happens a bunch of mummies appear, look for the stairs to climb up in order to exit.
