I thought this was an anniversary worth posting. 50 years ago, in May 1961 integrated groups of Civil Rights activists rode on intersate buses together to defy segregation and racism in America and to test whether Supreme Court rulings against segregation were being upheld. The "riders" were subjected to attacks, sometimes orchestrated by the local police, from mobs of Ku Kulx Klan members and bigots. Many of the Civil Rights activists were later arrested for their involvement.

The actions of the Freedom Riders are often credited with raising awareness of the continued discrmination of African Americans and kick-starting further Civil Rights action in the 1960s.
