Is it just me, or does the beginning of the music in the trailer (or the ringtone on this website/http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/tomb-raider/index.html) sounds awfully like the original TR theme? :tea:

This has been talked about to death, some people agree with you, I think it does too.

I'm sure someone will come along and link you to a more appropriate thread in a minute, I'm not really sure where to go from here. -awkward shuffle- :pi:

I wouldn't think so if they are trying to get away from that image.

It's okay! We don't expect everyone too, I'm sure. It's just this forum section is getting particularly crowded at the moment with all these new threads :p

Why did they put the classic 4 musical notes at the end of the trailer then?

The first few notes especially sound similar. When I first heard it, I thought, wow, they've gone with the old theme. I like it.

i agree, but it was only for the first like 2 seconds, so i don't know if they meant that. it was neat :D

It's playing tribute to the series.

Just like her blue singlet and brown pants.

When the violin first starts playing, it's the opening tune to the theme. :)

yeah it means they havent forgotten the originals even if this is a reboot...i'm so happy to hear the tune in a more modern way

No, when she's on the beach. As it's zooming out from the rocks.

It's at the beginning too...however not a violin.

Doesn't it sample the original main theme? It was done for the past two games (three? I don't know), what's another one more.

Oh, yes lol. I was talking more about the violin as it sounds more obvious. :p

Edit* Listening to it again, I don't think that part where she looks in the mirror is the theme. It's just a random tune to build excitement for the next scene. :)

McCree's 1996 theme is not in the Trailer's score folks :wve:

You can look at the individual notes, hell even two together! But beyond the first two notes in this video it's not there ;)

*There may be retrogrades or inversion (still analysing)

(I'm yet to analyse the whole trailer score)

We know the theme isn't in the trailer.

We're saying the first two notes at the beginning of the beach scene, and the first two notes of the ending piece are the same two notes as the opening of the classic theme.

H4RR7H
04-06-11, 02:18
That's true (^ video is beginning of beach scene), but you could compare a 2 note sequence between any two pieces of music :p

They're also not the exact same notes; but in a different key (intertonally they are the same).

Maybe the composer took influence, but maybe not. It sounds like it could be a prequel type theme that is able to develop into McCree's theme, done on purpose to go along with the whole reboot... :whi:

McCree's theme is directly prevalent or homaged in all other TR's; including Silvestri's score to the second movie. More than two notes, but the entire sequence (obviously including alterations).

This one, not so much. *checking for possible retrograde or inversion*

scremanie

But I still believe they chose those exact two notes for a reason. It was intentional.

I was actually expecting the rest of the theme to play out, and was shocked to hear a different note. :p

Highly likely as it's certainly getting the long time fans going :tea: Not enough concrete usage, however, to determine this a fact.

Btw, mattchu7, this discussion didn't really need a new thread: http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?t=181699 :wve:

mattchu7, you may not read every single post, but its kinda expected you'd check if there's a thread or not already about what you want to discuss before creating a new thread.. There are a lot of threads on the music, linked here, continue discussion there :)
