I would definately consider a centipede..they have one at the local rep store but unfortunately my bf said "no more" after the millipede..but saying that, he said that when I got Brody..and 4 tarantulas and a millipede later...*whistles*

My fascination with these bugs may not be understandable to a lot of people but trust me, if you came around my flat and listened to me tell you all the interesting/amazing facts about them AND watched them..it's amazing. Gygan, for example, just literally DOVE down into her sub aha. Now shes buried again.

When we're in our first house I can expand my collection in a way I'll be totally happy with.

It'll include (but not stop at)
Around 40 species of tarantula (thats a low number..I'll have more in my lifetime..probably tip 100 if I can)
Mantids (Indian, Flower..)
Centipedes
More types of Millipede
Jungle Nymph
Atlas Beetle
Hissing Roaches

I have Zoology in my Uni and I understand you. They are fascinating. So many people only see the outside (which is IMO freakin' EPIC but everybody has different taste), but they have no idea how complex and interesting those creatures are. The way they are built, their system, habits, even the movement.. I see you're very into Arthropods (spiders, millipedes, centipedes), awesome. :tmb:

I would like to ask something though, cause it's probably different in English and it keeps "bothering" me because of it. When you say BUGS, my first thought (and Slovene translation that comes in mind) are insects. But do you call all Arthropods bugs in your language, even spiders, scorpions, and in your case - millipedes? :D

There was 3 pages of discussion before you posted this, so clearly the thread brings something to the forum.

Grow up, woman. If you don't want me expressing my opinions in your threads, stop giving them such nondescript titles so that I know what your thread's about without having to look in it. And just because I verbalise my dislike for insects in a more vibrant way than other people doesn't mean I have a 'better than thou' attitude. Get over it, if you're gonna have such a weirdo hobby as this, expect people to balk at it. In that respect, you're the one who's being an ignorant 'better than thou' idiot.

The thread title has the word bug in it. Is your head that far up your own arse you can't read any more? If you had such an omgz hatrud lulz of them, surely the mere mention of the word would send you in another direction.

Your posts have been ignorant and rude.

Oh and tell me, how is what I own as a pet any different to what others own? Because it's not the social norm? Because I should have something fluffy like a dog?

Stop having a hissy fit. Your thread was ambiguously titled, in what way does it say "I just bought a centipede" (or whatever it is)? A bug isn't just slang for an insect.

Your posts have been ignorant and rude.

No they haven't. I had a grizzle about your thread title, but that's no big deal. My comments beyond that were an expression of my own aversion to keeping insects and such as pets. It had nothing to do with you personally, I'd have said the same thing had anyone else made a thread like this.

Oh and tell me, how is what I own as a pet any different to what others own? Because it's not the social norm? Because I should have something fluffy like a dog?

It isn't any different, I never said it was. Saying something is weird is subjective, and because of my aversion to creepy crawlies, I find what you do as being weird. So what? I was stating a simple truth and nothing more, I never said what I did with any malice at all, that is until you made your "ignorant idiot" comments. You seem to think that everyone should be nothing but smiles and cuddles about it.

It's not that I'm arachnophobic (or whatever the phobia is when applied to bugs in general), they just make my skin itch, I can't explain why. I even find things like moths a bit uncomfortable to be around.

Some comments that were pure spam and/or that did not contribute to the discussion other than encourage more fighting have been removed.
Vicky and Spong, if you feel the need to take this further, do it via PM or on your profile pages, please.
The purpose of this thread is not to discuss who has been rude to whom and who said what.

And with that said, back on topic, everyone. :)

Vicky, if the millipede spends 99.9% of its time burrowed in the substrate as you say, is it not a bit boring to have it as a pet?
Or does it make up for it in the short time it decides to grace you with its presence? :p

You're describing fear of Arachnids (spiders, scorpions, opiliones etc.), but they belong to phylum Arthropods. Insects belong to other subphylum then arachnids though, so this phobia does not include insects such as moths. Sorry for babbling about this. I guess you have general disliking of all Arthropods, which I understand. Hey, what about butterflies? :p
