View Full Version : Would you prefer 48 or 40??

Hi folks http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif
I work 48hrs a week (4 x 12hr shifts) and get every Friday, Saturday and Sunday off.

I much prefer this to working a 40hr (5 x 8hr shifts) week and only getting two days off.

Which would you prefer??

If we can't all join the idle rich! like Neil seems to want to! Here in France there is a 35 hour per week law, which means a four day week in many cases!

My working hours are so unpredictable, so unstable, that I can't say for sure :( But I think the 5x8hrs shift is preferrable.
I don't think I could manage the 12 hours shift
Aza, you are admirable for managing it http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Stick to what you have now Aza, I know I would if I were you. In the days when I was working as an IT consultant (before this spinal injury I mean, I am on leave right now), I would work an average 11-13 hours per day and very often also at weekends. I think that a longer shift (longer than 8 I mean) for only 3 days or about that is actually preferable to the normal weekly lark with only Sat and Sun off. Best wishes!

Oh and I thought it was.

Work is what you make it

I'd definitely prefer the 12 hour shifts...3 day weekend sounds nice. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

I agree with tazmine. It's better to get it all over with and have 3 days off in a row. And they are weekend days! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

I like the thought of a 3 day weekend. I like better the thought of early retirement and heading for the sun! But, that's just me! :D

Hiya Aza, I'd go with the three days off, its like my week. I do 15 hours each on Sat and Sun and get 30 hours over and done with in two days. Then I can spread the other 15 over another few days and just have 5 half days or 2 more full days or whatever I feel like!

I love the freedom! Except its now Christmas time and Im pretty much doin 5 9 hr days and 2 15 hr days and gettin no days off. :(
Oh well, think of the money, think of the money....

btw Aza, what do you do?

12-12-03, 08:41
I am a shift manager in a recycling plant.
We do 4 weeks of nights (8pm till 8am) then 4 weeks of days (8am till 8pm).
Been doing it for the last 15 years.
It's not too bad once you get used to it http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

I work 45 hours a week (5 x 9 hours), plus I have to travel to and from London, so spend around 3 hours a day commuting.

That sucks. At least I have a decently paid job, that's what I keep telling myself...

My hours are flexible. Once I have 139 hours done in a 4 week period I'm ok. I can also work up to 1.5 days to take off in the next 4 week period.

But if your hours are down Human Resources get on your back.

I'd rather have the 3 days off, but even better, the permanent holiday Neil said! ;) http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
