View Full Version : Do game artists, designers, producers sign their work in the game?

If I was a game artist I might want to sign my work in the game somehow.
I have noticed in TR Legend that there are various faces of people in Croft Manor. Like the face of the guy in the chandelier light, in the Main Hall by the stairs. Are these faces, and other things in the game sort of signatures, or just random graphics.
Just curious.

You could say that the credits sequence at the end of every game is a signature. Anything else is a bit impractical, considering how many people are working on a modern game.

When game developers do sign their games elsewhere, this is usually in the form of an easter-egg.

The credits serve as signatures in a game, at least I think so.

Sometimes the characters (mostly NPC) are given the facial characteristics of the developers. Recent example is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat where all important NPCs have faces of developers :)

Excuse my ignorance, but what's NPC?

That guy in the chandelier candles is Lara's dad.

Thank you. :) I'm still very much a n00b when it comes to gaming speak/acronyms. :o

I know some of the texture sheets in Half-Life 2 have signatures on them. :p

This is what puzzled me, if the chandelier had an owl, eagle or similar, I would not have given it a second thought. Just seems to be a strange thing to have on the chandelier?

Just random game graphics then.
At least I know now, thanks.

I noticed Lara's dad on the candles too, strange!

Barny's face is actually that of one of the Valve Employees if that counts as a signature. :o
EDIT: And the last picture you posted is Kain (in his human form?) from the Legacy of Kain series Crystal Dynamics developed before they switched to Tomb Raider.

Marty O'Donnell builds music signatures into the games that he composes for. You can run around and find them in the Halo series, it's a neat little "easter egg".
