Maybe now that he has been captured and people are no longer afraid that he will somehow return to power, Iraq will be able to get on with some real reconstruction. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Anyway back to the topic... should we be happy that saddam is captured or sad that he has kiled lots of people?Everyone is going to be very sad about the number of people tortured & killed by Saddam whether he was ever captured or not. I think we'll all be glad that he was captured, but is the world now going to have to go through the farce of a trial, where he gets to proclaim his innocence? Maybe it would have been better for everyone if he had been captured dead? http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/silent.gif

I'm glad that he's captured. The thing I disagree with is why he gets a trial. I know its fair, but there's all the proof of what hes done. I say just shoot him. Sorry if I have offended anyone. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

I think they need him for a show trial. Don't be so sure Celli. We have to see what happens on the ground. They may not get better, bombs have subsequently been going off. If there is another year of attrition Bush may not be so popular. On the other hand what opposition is there?

I sort of agree with you John Falstaff ;) . I sort of had a bad feeling that this might be the start to something worse :( .

I'm a great advocate of human rights and the right to a fair trial, but it just kills me that Amnesty International were giving the US authorities a hard time because they haven't yet been granted access to Hussein - to make sure he's being treated fairly (aww. Poor baby)!

I'd have thought that Amnesty was one of the organizations partying most heartily right about now!

I am happy Saddam will be held responsible for his crimes, but when I see this, I am left wondering why the US has been so vigilant in destroying Saddam's regime and bringing him to justice, when so many evil dictators have gone on to live out their lives in comfort?

Idi Amin, Pol Pot, Charles Taylor (he is now going to be brought to trial), just to name a few of the most infamous, have not been held accountable for the slaughter of millions of their own people. Idi Amin, a past dictator of Uganda, was welcomed by the Saudi Arabian government to live in luxury and comfort until his death this year.

Just a thought to ponder: If we are going to barrel into foreign countries to take out evil dictators, then lets not let any dictators go on spreading death and destruction anywhere in the world. It is a slap to the face of all the families who lost loved ones at the brutal hands of those dictators who are able to stay in power, or if deposed, allowed to live on without facing justice.

I know the US should not be the world's police force, but if we are going to liberate Iraq, bring its dictator to justice, and rejoice that the Iraqi people can now live in peace and hope, then lets not forget that other people in other parts of the world also suffer under brutal regimes. Why don't we liberate them as well? My guess is that liberating their countries just is not in the interest of the US. I don't think it is fair.

Isn't it against the Muslim religion to carry out the death penalty? If he'll be tried in Iraq, then they should respect this religion (if I'm correct). If they kill him, it's like the US is trying to completely take over Iraq and not worry about what the people would think. I know I could be way off, I don't even know what the Iraqi people want. It seems like everytime the US speaks for them.

Uh... who's country is next on the list ;) I know Africa has some problems with their leaders. If the US is on a humanitarian kind of thing ( ), maybe they should go there next, even though Africa has practically no natural resources.

The leaders are most likely responsible for disobeying their religion. It's like they use their religion just for political purposes, that's kind of sad. I don't know, whatever. Kill him if the US pleases, the world has all sorts of justifications for murder.

I was pleased to Charles Taylor is to be tried. Another name to conjure with is Mengistu, the ex - Ethiopian dictator, currently sheltering in Zimbabwe, with Mugabwe!

I hope no one hates me for what I'm about to say but if he lands up in a US jail and if the jail is anything like our jails in UK, then he'll have a cushy life. :(

I think that what we should do with him is put him in a featureless, silent room and leave him there, feeding him only on meagre s****s and water. We can then use him as an experiment to see the effects of sensory deprivation and know that he'll be suffering. Just look at all the psychological damage he's probably caused already...why kill him and let him go out easily?

Bush will get re-elected for sure now." lol! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif Oh and you are right andromedia I should have said, " Victory for US,Uk, and all of our Allies!!!!". I totally mean that though, I am really happy with the UK for helping us out, you guys rock! lol. Oh and Australia is cool too for finding some of those weapons or whatever the yfound. I don't remember, but they saved a lot of lives by finding that. And every other country that helped us too, huge victory! Team work between the countries, WOOT WOOT! lol.

Don't worry, US jails are far from UK jails! Our jails are serious punishment, especially for some one who has committed crimes as bad as he has. Trust me, the only thing he will have in his cell is a bed and a toilet with no carpet either. He'll be miserable, our jails are huge punishment. I am not exactly sure about hwo his jail cell would be, but pretty bad. The worse the crime the worse the jail cell is I think.I hope this comment doesn't offend any one, but the UK jails are pretty nice and not enough punishment. I really hope that didn't offend you guys though. I did watch on tv about your jails and I saw this kid in jail and he had a NICE room with a NICE bathroom and a private tutor and he could go downstairs to play foosball it was like another home lol. But don't worry, Saddam will be punished greatly. He may even get the death penalty, which I think would be best for him, but then again a life sentence in jail would be good for him too. I'm not sure, I don't even know if he would even be punished here in America.

It's obviously good news, but it will be interesting to see what effect if any this has on the Republican Guard, the Bathists, and the resistance in general.

He's going to be tried most likely in the International Court in The Hague, Netherlands for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
