Internet fast chat is what some people call spam. I'm not a lover of it myself because I don't understand all of it.
Getting to the point : what does "imo" mean?
:D

IMO = In My Opinion.

Btw (By The Way :p), spam is not the same as internet language, spam is posting stuff that adds nothing to the conversation.

I hate how answering "y" doesn't even mean "yes" anymore. It's so annoying.

I don't get ones like "kk"... if it means "ok" then what's the purpose... you're not even saving a single keystroke... which I thought was supposed to be the reasoning behind these abbreviations.

What the hell is the point of using kk for ok? ok is short for okay, so that makes sense, lol :p.

I dislike text speak or, as you're calling it, 'internet fast chat'. I will use btw or imo or lol, but I rarely use anything else, I just don't understand it and it's lazy. No wonder people are forgetting the correct spelling and grammar. My son, on the other hand, finds it easier to read at times than 'long hand' as he has dyslexia and, for him, a text speak word is typed as you would say it.

I hate it, unless you're using "imo", or "btw". Sometimes I use it for teh lulz, but I never use it seriously. Nor can I take anyone serious when they're saying "Hey m8, how r u?" - Yes, someone actually said that to me... Why? :o

"kk" Is short for "ok" for the fact that some people want to save a second and double click "K" very fast on their keyboard :)

I know few:
FTFY: Fixed that for you / **** that, **** you

w/ - With
w/o - Without

I tend not to use this stuff anyway. I find no use for it... Maybe because I'm a fast typist anyhow, I don't really see any need for it. :p

Internet fast chat language is actually a derivative of text speak: Which was invented when mobile phone sms services didn't have as much memory as they have today and you had to use the numeric key pad to type words. It was invented through a need to save time, space and money. Although these days in the age of mobile internet giving us IM in place of SMS (what'sapp, BBM and iMsg etc), cheap contracts and phones with full qwerty keyboards it is, thankfully, being phased out. I have no idea why it spread to internet use as the motivation ad to why it was introduced through the masses via text messaging was never there. Laziness is my guess and the most prominently discussed one in books on this topic.

What's funny is, "kk" is the colloquial term for... a "friend with which you fornicate" in Sweden. :p

Let's just say I've caused myself great trouble using that term where I shouldn't have. :vlol:

gpoy=gratuitous picture of yourself (used when referring that something is alike to you usually)

I don't know. I don't really use fast internet language that much unless I'm in a weird mood and I'm using it ironically for dramatic affect ZOMG lol shutup u guyz~

And I sort of have my own unique internet language/mannerisms.

I don't mind acronyms like idek, iirc, btw, etc. also the occasional shortening like "tho" for "though".

But u, 2, r, etc. Are the most annoying little ****ers in existence.

Except, it wasn't created by today's youth. It is just utilised by them. So that point is both insulting and invalid. This type of language has been growining in usage since the 90s.

@Bradley: The way you wrote the second meaning of qft is called "censor circumvention" iirc (^^). Simply type the whole word: ****ing and the forum software will turn the right part into stars (as it did in this message - I didn't type in a single * myself)

idk, m bff, j?
:p

Speaking of abbreviations and abbreviating, I hate seeing "natch" instead of "naturally." At first I was all like "What the **** is that? Natch? Some trendy new way of saying catch? scratch? Who says that? ****ing natch. Sounds so douchey."

And then I looked it up and was all like "Oh. That's stupid."
