Source Engine is my favorite. It lacks many current-gen features, but wow, Half-Life 2 and Portal are amazing games. It is also (despite what people say) pretty user friendly. My PC is just not powerful enough to mod much. :o

The Unreal Engine also produces some great games such as BioShock.

Oh, I forgot. I never worked with the engine, but CryEngine (Next to Chrome) might be the most technically advanced at the moment.

(PS.Nate, are you thinking about getting into the modding scene?)

@lcroft_lc: I said three engines and three games per engine. :)

I would if I actually had a good PC to run games, I'm still a console gamer for now.

Cry Engine and Unreal Engine. :) They're what I would use in modding/ level editing.

TR1-5 Engine
Gamebryo (Oblivion, Fallout)
BRender (Croc series, Harry Potter 1/2)
Bonus: Unity (because of its development tools!)

I suppose they are the ones which every thinks of.
I mean, source, Cryengine and Unreal are probably the most known.
But what happened to stuff like Games Factory, OGRE, c4 engine, 3D game maker. I suppose these huge "daddy company" engines completely overtook them. With games like Bioshock as living proof of why to go for them.

I generally think the best engine is still 3DS Max. Is it true you can just create a game from them.

Might want to resize those pics. :p

Enslaved is another Unreal Game that is gorgeous, I just didn't list it because there is a lot of texture pop-in.

RAGE is very good on PS3 but its feels ****ty on PC. That's why I think they might make Max Payne 3 PC version ****ty again(though it will have DirectX11 support). :(

Rage and Unreal Engine are pretty nice. Whatever engine Little Big Planet uses, I like that one too. Fox Engine looks nice too, has that interesting plasticy look to the character models that MGS4 had.
