Ex-STALKER dev's MMO FPS gets first details, image

Free to play PC title Survarium is "evolution" of STALKER

Free to play MMO FPS, Survarium is the "next evolution step" of the axed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, says developer Vostok Games.

The studio's existence was confirmed last night after S.T.A.L.K.E.R. studio GSK officially closed its doors (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/345219/stalker-2-cancelled-as-gsk-closes-doors/) and cancelled its in-development sequel. Vostok says Survarium, which is set in the same 'zone' universe of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, focuses on "a mass-scale ecological catastrophe on Earth, the reasons behind vaguely known."

It goes on: "Impassable woods advance onto cities from every side, maddened animals and birds attack industrial complexes, military structures, warehouses and power plants. Towns are cut off from each other, there are no water supplies, no electricity, gas, communication is lost.

"Countries collapse, anarchy spreads throughout the world. Now force dictates who to survive. In the meantime, new species of greenery and animals purposely destroy human civilization. Strange plants and mushrooms grow through concrete and steel. Scientists all over the world haplessly try to cope with the anomaly sprawling across the Earth with terrifying speed."

The game is being developed on the new proprietary 'Vostok Engine' technology, the studio says, and is planned for release on PC at the end of 2013.

It looks like fans of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. have something to look forward to then.

"The concept of Survarium is a next evolution step for the idea of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. we've been working on for the last ten years. - said Project Lead Ruslan Didenko. - Survarium will go way further forcing mankind to fight for survival not only within the closed area of Chernobyl zone, but also far beyond."

"Technology versus nature, rational versus mystical. Such a confrontation enables us to take a new look at the current happenings in our world, - said Aleksey Sytianov, Lead Game Designer of the project. - Survarium will offer players an atmospheric world of civilization crash, filled with factions and loners, stalkers and hunters surviving in a wild anomalous environment."

Survarium: First in-game screenshots of first title from former Stalker 2 devs

The first in-game screenshots of Survarium, the first title from the former Stalker 2 developers, have been released.

Vostok Games, formed from the ashes of GSC Game World, released the images of the Rudnya location of the free-to-play post-apocalyptic MMO for PC.

They were taken from an early build of the game, Vostok said, and "do not represent the final quality of the project".

Survarium will be set in a world - not a single region as Stalker was - ravaged by an "ecological catastrophe".

Meanwhile, Vostok released the second Survarium developer diary, below. It covers the game's storyline, atmosphere, game character and the planned in-game playable modes.

GSC Game World, which was shut in December 2011 without notice, had been working on Stalker 2.
