Okay, I'll try to remember it, thanks!

And personally, I don't think a win in penalties is equivalent to a win during the normal game or overtime. It's essentially a completely different game, with way more luck involved. Of course, that won't help the english team now…

But Italy deserved the win, for the first time they were the ones attacking while the others defended. I'm very positively surprised with Italy TBH, no one cared much for them at the start of the tournament, but they're showing a very good, cohesive team.

That might be seen as impolite, and for historical reasons, we do not want to be seen as impolite or worse towards foreigners, especially those that support us.

Also, Lebanon isn't in the UEFA, so he couldn't support them in this match no matter what.

Absolutely. To be fair England had quite a few chances to solve this match in their favour. Just think of that genius save that Buffon did at the start of the game!!

I think England shouldn't have been so defensive towards the end of the match and on the extra time. They had the players to push through Italy's defence (Walcott, Carroll), but they didn't put them to good use. They seemed to be waiting for the penalty shootout a lot more than Italy, which is strange considering their track record on that....

No he didn't. The only penalty not scored in that shootout hit the bar and bounced back, so he didn't actually save anything. He's a great keeper don't get me wrong, but as I said, he's not immune from conceding penalties, and Hart is a very good keeper anyway.

Your concept on football(soccer) is completely wrong. Clearly Spain has contributed with a more dynamic football in recent years than any other country. In fact Italy is introducing some Spanish concepts about ball possession in here last matches. Surprised that Spain started with Negredo, would have played Llorente. At least they are playing with a striker tho, hate that 4-6-0 formation.

Don't get me wrong, the Spanish team are incredibly talented, but they're also very defensive.

When it comes to style of football you're either defensive or attacking (or like most teams inbetween) and direct or possession based (or inbetween). Spain would lie firmly in the defensive and possession based sides. Normally it's the direct teams that are defensive but that's not always the case. England for example would be firmly in the direct side and probably in the middle of the defensive-attacking line. We were defensive against the Italians but also attacking against the likes of Sweden and Ukraine.

Don't really go along with all the anti Spain stuff on here.

Used to love watching Barca and the National side. They make that style of football look so easy which I'm fairly sure it isn't.

The only problems I have with it is that it usually encourages other teams to play really defensive. Prefer watching them when they play with a striker also, the 4-6-0 can be a bit dull to watch.

Portugal got their tactics spot on imo and were a bit unlucky not to win in 90 mins. Their lack of finishing power ultimately let them down. 0 shots on target in 120 mins.

Sorry but this time it isn't about discussing the merits of the tiki-taka, for the simple reason that there was no tiki-taka. Spain watched Portugal play football for 90 minutes. This time, regardless of whether you like it or not, you really can't say that their famous play style got them through. The only reason Spain is in the final is because of Portugal's only weakness and chronic flaw: our lack of a good striker upfront, our difficulty in scoring.

Honestly, I don't think Ronaldo has anything more to prove in the national team. He (almost by himself) got us through the group stage and the QF, with what were his best games ever playing for Portugal (against Holland and Czech Republic). The only people who can still argue he isn't as good while playing for Portugal are stupid fanboys.

Its a shame for Football that a team went to final of a major tournament which team doesn't have a striker and played defensive boring time wasting passing football throughout the whole tournament. Another reason of Spain played 10 man defensive football yesterday was that they knew what Portugal and Ronaldo is capable of from their last meeting:

I wasn't saying they were playing their usual game last night, I was just talking about them in general. I gave Portugal credit for their positive approach, think that was one of the reasons Spain didn't play so well.

It seems that over the past few tournaments Germany never really manages to live up to those expectations, which is weird because they always have good, solid teams.

Something that I find highly ironic - Italy won the World Cup in 2006, same year of the "Calciopolli" scandal that threw Juventus off the Serie A for fixing matches. Now, in 2012, Italy might very well win the Euro Cup, after yet another match fixing scandal almost took them off the tournament altogether. :vlol:

Missed the game (was out) but it's quite a shock to see that Italy have won. I like both nations to be honest. Didn't have a preference just so long as the winner of this game beats Spain in the final.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Go and support your own country now.

Think the other way:Spain played negative football against Portugal to stop their wave of attacks and Spanish intention was to bring the match to tie-break. Surely Casillas was much better keeper than Lui Patricio.

I can almost guarantee that the final will be boring - because Spain are involved. Unfortunately, if it is boring, Italy will get the blame because they have a reputation for being negative, despite the fact that they've been one of the most exciting teams this tournament.

^Spot on. I find it highly ironic that Italy is one of the most attacking teams on the tournament. It really shows how european football has changed.

The reason I want Italy to win is not because I want revenge for the semis, it's purely because they deserve it. Spain hasn't done anything particularly good to be where they are now. They've been on the easiest group, got an extremely weak France in the quarters, and the only really tough games they played, they couldn't win (against Italy in group stage and in the semis). They've had what I call "winner's luck".

^ Spain are doing something like what Greece did in 2004. Defend all the time, score one, get the win. The difference is, Greece is not a high class team from the beginning. So a low-class team can do this. But with so many 5 star player, I don't know why Spain has to do that palystyle.

Oh BTW, Germany never beaten Italy in a competition. Spain also didn't beat Italy in a competition in 120 minutes playtime. Only time they beat Italy was in a tie-break in 2008 EURO.

I think Spain plays a boring football like Greece, however, I really don't think the style is the same. Greece was a purely defensive team, they basically barricaded in front of their goal and only looked to score in counter-attack moves. Spain is different, they resort to controlling the ball and boring the adversary to death. :p

Euro 2012 Final: Spain vs Italy Match Facts and Stats
http://www.oleole.com/media/main/images/wallpapers/206732/spainvsitalyeuro2012_451018.jpg

Here are some interesting facts concerning the two finalists.

It will be the fourth time a Euro final takes place between teams who met earlier in the tournament. It happened in 1988 (Netherlands-USSR), 1996 (Germany-Czech Republic) & 2004 (Greece-Portugal).
Italy and Spain are facing each other for the 31st time in their history. The Italians hold the advantage with 10 wins to Spain’s eight. 12 draws complete the picture.

SPAIN [For the tiki-taka and boring football lovers]

Spain have not lost 19 competitive games since the 1-0 loss to Switzerland in the 2010 World Cup.
Spain haven’t conceded a single goal in their last 900 minutes of action in major tournament knockout games, a streak which started in the quarter finals of Euro 2008.
Iker Casillas, Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez, Fernando Torres, Cesc Fabregas, Santi Cazorla, Xabi Alonso, Sergio Ramos and David Silva featured in the Euro 2008 finals. No player has played in two European championship final wins.
Xavi Hernandez has completed over 800 passes at Euro 2012, more than any player at a UEFA European Championship. Against Ireland, he completed 133 passes, breaking the record of number of passes at the European Championships.
If Fernando Torres, who scored the winner four years ago, manages to score in Kiev, he will become the only player to have scored in two major finals.
Vicente Del Bosque could be the second coach to win both the FIFA World Cup and UEFA European Championships.
Goal-keeper Iker Casillas has completed 419 minutes without conceding. Spain have kept nine successive clean sheets in a major tournament knockout games.
Spain have completed more than double the number of passes against their opponents in Euro 2012 672/341 against Italy, 810/198 v Ireland, 639/231 v Croatia, 638/429 v France and 658/331 v Portugal.
Spain have had more than 50 percent ball possession in 21 out of their 22 games at major final tournaments. At the UEFA Euro 2008 finals against Germany, Spain managed only 46%.
Spain's 4-0 win over Ireland was their biggest win at the European Championships.
Casillas has national record of playing in four European Championship finals. Casillas earned his 73rd clean sheet, beating the record of Edwin van der Saar.
12 Spanish players were part of the Euro 2008 winning squad. Spain qualified with 100 percent record during the qualifying stages.
Spain are without the highest goal-scorer in their history, David Villa, who also holds the national record for the most number of goals at the European Championships.
Spain are only the fifth side to have qualified with 100% result in the qualifying stages. David Villa and Sergio Ramos are the two players who played every game prior to Euro 2012.
Spain are the second European side to reach the final of three consecutive major tournaments, after West Germany in Euro 72, WC 74, Euro 76.
Spain have won three out of four (75%) major tournament finals while Italy reached their ninth final, three Euros and six World Cup finals, winning 63%. [ Oh God please make Spanish record 60% tomorrow http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m3gxb9hW1j1qkpnk0.gif ]
Spain have conceded 12 shots on target, six of them came from Italy in their opening clash.
Cesc Fabregas and Santiago Cazorla are the most used substitutes in the history of the European Championships (alongside Holland’s Aron Winter), having been brought on seven times.
Andres Iniesta is the player who’s had the most shots on target without scoring at the European Championships, since 1980: 11 shots on target, 0 goals. :vlol:
Spain have the best defensive record at Euro 2012 with only one goal conceded. In their last two games combined (quarter-final v France & semi-final v Portugal), Spain have only faced one shot on target.
Five Spanish players (Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Ramos) have completed more passes than Italy’s most prolific player in that department, Andrea Pirlo (320 passes).

ITALY [For the excitement and real football lovers]

Italy are unbeaten against Spain at major tournaments (penalties shoot-outs excluded), with three wins and four draws. Nevertheless, Spain managed to qualify in their last encounter in knockout games, it was at the quarter-finals of Euro 2008 (0-0 after 120 mins, 4-2 after penalties). :yah:
Cesare Prandelli has faced Spain twice as Italy head-coach and has never lost. Italy beat them in a friendly in August 2011 (2-1) before drawing in their opening game of Euro 2012 (1-1). :yah:
Italy have won only two of their last eight games within the normal time.
Italy held the national record of six matches without a win in major finals tournament before beating Ireland.
Coach Cesare Prandelli is unbeaten so far, with 10 wins and five draws, including the penalty shoot-out win over England counted as a draw. :yah:
Mario Balotelli became only the second Italy player to score twice in one Euro match. He also became the only player to have scored three goals in a single European Championship tournament, equal to Antonio Cassano's national record at all Euro finals he has played.
Italy play-maker Andrea Pirlo made 146 passes against England, completing 117 - the most at Euro 2012 including extra-time.
The Italians completed 835 passes including 68 percent ball possession with 35 attempts on goal against England.
The Italian squad features six players from Italy Serie A champions Jeventus, Gianluigi Buffon, Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci, Chiellini, Emanuele Giaccherini, Claudio Marchisio and Pirlo.
Eight out of 23 players in Italy have previous experience at the European Championships.
Italy were eliminated by Spain at the Euro 2008 quarter-finals in a penalty shoot-out, Cesc Fabregas scored the winning penalty.
The Azzurri holds the best defensive record in qualifying, conceding only two goals in eight games.
Italy are the only side who have never trailed at any time during Euro 2012.
Italy and Spain have had the most shots at Euro 2012: 99 and 86 respectively.
Italy have picked up the most bookings (15) at Euro 2012.
Balotelli has had the most shots on target at Euro 2012: 10.
Mario Balotelli scored as many goals against Germany in the semi-finals as he did in his 12 previous caps for Italy. He’s scored Italy’s last three goals at Euro 2012.
Gianluigi Buffon has played 24 matches at major tournaments, equalling Dino Zoff’s Italian record. He’s still four short of the record holder among goalkeepers, Spain’s Iker Casillas (28).
